The ERJ will forever hold a place in my heart. My first flight rocketed out of ICT to ORD to make a connection on the mighty AA 777 to LHR. Essentially, the ERJ is the plane that allows me to see the world easIly and conveniently. The plane itself is fast, efficient, safe and performs her duties perfectly. You’re one lucky guy and I hope to be on one one of your flights sometime.
My goal with this video is to make sure you guys have a solid understanding of the jet I fly... Before I continue making more career-related videos. You guys have been asking AWESOME questions about the airplane, so here are some answers! What do you want to know about becoming an airline pilot? Comment with suggestions!
As an aviation student in college, I want to know what are your career and planning suggestions as a regional jet pilot. What would you have done or done better if you have the current understanding of the industry back when you were in college. For example: Should I put a lot of emphasis on my GPA? or it doesn't seem to be relevant to the airlines. Should I spend some more money to become an MEI or it is not worth the money?

A. Phillip Old comment but are you sure about that? Twenty three to start training for your ATPL. I don’t know if that has something to do with you region but here in Iceland we can start an Integrated ATPL program at 18 with all necessary education. After the program were granted a “frozen ATPL” which any Icelandic airline accepts.
A. Phillip I think you should check other flight school and possibly ones in neighboring countries. Even though it may be daunting and expensive at first it will probably make up for itself with the 5 year head start in training.

Great video! Had the chance to fly on one years ago, Colorado Springs to Houston aboard Continental Express. Really powerful and strong little jet, it kinda feels like you're in a rocket sitting in that narrow tube :). Also love taking it out in the flight sim every once in a while, a very nice airplane to fly given it's lesser use of automation compared to other airliners.
You are an excellent spokesman for your company and your posts most likely bring new customers and promote working for your company. Hope you see the left seat soon and probably move into management. The command pilots are thanking you for being there first. Your dedication to the craft is very apparent. I would feel very safe sitting in the back with your crew. Fly Safe!
Thanks for the video, this has to be one of the best looking jets. Love it when alone on the A side and .78 mach is just fine, stay within limits and let that narrow fuselage slip it's way to your destination as efficiently as a small regional airliner can.
Swayne, I flew for the first time on my honeymoon last year. I flew in a ERJ-145 from Little Rock, Arkansas to Houston, Texas. I absolutely loved every second of my flight. I really enjoy watching your videos because it brings back memories. Thanks for taking the time to make these videos. I look forward to watching more!
One of the most intelligently produced and presented aviation videos on all of TH-cam. Swayne is very gifted in the art of terse and salient information presentation. You are obviously very aware of what is interesting and what needs to be ditched. Very happy for you that you are enjoying your career. The ERJ is growing on me and no doubt others as a fine aircraft and perfect for its task. Thanks and fly safe.
I just finished my first month of line flying in the ERJ175. The auto-throttles and vnav capabilities do spoil you, but you still have to know what you’re doing, because the autopilot doesn’t always give you the desired result. Sometimes it forgets or decides it would rather go do something else. No trailing link gear but it is an easy landing airplane. I’m based in LGA. I’ve been to your base ORD already. I’ll keep an eye out for ya.
Congrats to you . What aviation college did you go to ? I use to live in Mahopac , New York & I flew out of LGA often . May I ask are you flying for Envoy Airlines like Swayne Martin ? May I ask how young you are & how young were you when started taking flying lessons & what age you got your PPL at ?
Bob Shaw - I don’t have a degree. So, the regionals will be as far as I can go. I cannot say where I work as I don’t have an agreement as Swayne does to represent the company. My usual route where I fly in jets this size switches back and forth between ERJ-140/145's and CRJ-2/200's. I greatly prefer the ERJ-145. I like the 1-seat side and the big windows placed so that you can see out of them. The CRJ-2, etc. have the windows situated so that someone who sits tall (long torso) cannot see out of the window (down only, and that is awkward). People often ask me if i want to fly transatlantic flights someday, and are surprised when I say no! I would much rather fly shorter regional routes like such if the ERJ-145. And Swayne, a question: what are some differences between the 145/140, and the 135?
@nightstalker I am not saying I wouldn't like to fly internationally, I just find that smaller regional airports have a certain sense of adventure to them. And that adventure in discovering "hidden gems" so to speak is what a would like to do.
@@j_eldridge Mabey consider flying corporate, you get to fly into new airports all the time and you can fly anywhere between a 30 min jump to a 7 hour transatlantic crossing.
The biggest difference is just the length....Now the E145XR is a different animal. Envoy doesn’t not fly them. Gear, thrust rating on the engine and fuel systems are all different

I've been in Human Resources over 30 years. You, my friend, are going to have a tremendously successful aviation career. And always remember one thing, if you don't ask, you don't get. You are articulate, confident and just what any carrier would seek. The world is your oyster! Russ
He is kind of a nerd and one must be rather above average in intelligence (B student in school or better), especially in math, science and physics if you expect to succeed beyond a private license. The Instrument rating is extremely tough and eye opening.
Yeah? Well any new info on Embraer's issues with Boeing? Do you think Embraer will do a deal with the Chinese if they really need the money they have been searching for? That to me is a good alternative if they are still looking for investors.

D B fuck u
I'm lucky to be able to catch a 145 regularly between Inverness and Birmingham here in the UK with Loganair which operate I think around 15 of these. It's a great plane, almost like a private jet!
È muito bom saber que algo braisleiro esta fazendo sucesso e é bem aceito nos países estranjeiros , a embraer esta de parabens ....
Thank you. I've passenger-ed in the 140 from Indi to NY LaG and the 170 from LCY-London City to Amsterdam & love both Embraers. I'm Aussie, & soloed in '57.
Another "Excellent" video ....Makes me wonder how many people you are making "Dream About Becoming A Pilot"
I absolutely love how you really research all of the nuances of the aircrafts you are flying. To me it shows that you really want to know your job and not just do it. You look very young to me, which I'm sure you get told all the time, but I'd trust you to fly me.
Thanks really enjoyed the video, retired pilot with 18k hours
What aircraft did you fly professionally over that career?
@@KutWrite Thanks for asking, After USAF flight training, I flew a career in AF. A-1 Skyraider Vietnam, 2 T-38 Talon Instructor Pilot, 3. C-130 Hercules 4. C-23 Sherpa and
ended career as E-3a Sentry Instructor pilot.
After retiring from AF, owned a charter service flying Air Ambulance. Twin engine
turbo props.
@@lostcreek163: Wow! Impressive!
@@KutWrite Thanks for kind comment. Was my honor to serve the USA!
Lostcreek 1 thank you for your service sir🇺🇸
This video was excellent, a very professional and well put together commentary by a very young first officer, much more competent than some I have seen. Well done!
Swayne is a cool guy
Thanks for your enthusiastic & educational videos. I’m not an aviator, but have followed your career for a couple years. Continue on your flight path. You will go far.
Great video. How do you like the plane? My checkride for the 145 is Sunday. Will be flying a Legacy 650 Part 91.
My first flight ever from MHT to Cleveland was on a 145 in 2002...still my fav Regional Jet...
Great video, great footage, very well explained!
You do a great job, Swayne. Great ambassador for aviation.
You're totally a pro', cool always be blessed and takecare,,,. Sir,,,.❤
YOU DID AN OUTSTANDING JOB EXPLAINING AS A PILOT FLYING THIS TYPE AIRCRAFT(S) . I REALLY LIKE THE ERGONOMICS OF IT. SEEMS LIKE A LOT OF FUN DOING YOUR JOB. ENJOY AND THANK YOU!
@@michaelmulkern9114 That is a very good idea!
Try domestic flights with majors. The flight aren’t usually more than 6 hours and you can fly 737s
The biggest difference is just the length....Now the E145XR is a different animal. Envoy doesn’t not fly them. Gear, thrust rating on the engine and fuel systems are all different
I appreciate all the time and effort you put into your videos and educate us. Your work is greatly appreciated among all us viewers and especially by the some people watching who want to become an airline pilot. I wish you luck and the best in your time flying the E-140/145.
damn bro you're insane! about to do my Recreational permit flight test in a few months, 15 years old!
Jonah Sohmer get it done
I was a FA on this aircraft. Exciting. I love this plane. My home base was RIC. Training was long I truly loved the classes gettin to know the plane in the Hangar was a thrill. I happen on this site. Great video.
4:24 Hmmmm That butter though (Landing) Swiss001 and airforceproud95 would be proud of the pilot.
I've been in Human Resources over 30 years. You, my friend, are going to have a tremendously successful aviation career. And always remember one thing, if you don't ask, you don't get. You are articulate, confident and just what any carrier would seek. The world is your oyster! Russ
You are so cool becareful all thy times be blessed Sir,,,.🙏☺.
Just flew in one from Houston to Jackson, MS and back for thanksgiving. I love the 145’s!
Does Swayne make anyone else feel like they don’t study enough??
He is kind of a nerd and one must be rather above average in intelligence (B student in school or better), especially in math, science and physics if you expect to succeed beyond a private license. The Instrument rating is extremely tough and eye opening.
Just study every 6 months for sim
I'd rather have a guy like this who is knowledgable of what he's doing then some dude that doesn't have a clue lol
Every video you make inspires me!
This is one of the few reasons that make me proud to be Brazilian.
Yeah? Well any new info on Embraer's issues with Boeing? Do you think Embraer will do a deal with the Chinese if they really need the money they have been searching for? That to me is a good alternative if they are still looking for investors.
Once again Swayne you knocked out this world with you great video and presentation of Envoy air. Thanks again to your fellow Captains for being good sports and sharing their office with us big fans of you and Envoy. Keep of the great videos. 🛩👍
Another great video. Everyone is so young. Do you ever see people in their 50s like myself in your training classes?
Go for it. No regrets. Hit the accelerator. Everyday is an opportunity. We don't get a do over. Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life. Go for it. I did.
@@bobbypatterson7481 - PERFECT!
gerdelt you have to 65 to part 121 I’m 37 and in the process of doing the same!!! Just gotta be willing to put the work in
@@Jmod82 Thank you. I have 560 hrs. Now I have to get another 940 for that magic 1500. As soon as I get an IPC and multi, I'll probably bite the bullet and take a huge pay cut to find a time building opportunity.
gerdelt well do your research part 91 is very good option for really good pay and QOL can be better as well!! But if regional is your passion go for it me personally I’d rather do corporate
Another great video Swayne. Thanks for producing this information video about the 140/145. Great.
1:05 Columbus, Cleveland, same thing, really.
Thanks for all these informational videos Swayne! I'm about to take another step closer to this dream, which is going to college for aviation. These videos are so awesome for someone who's looking into this industry. Can't wait to live this life.
UR SO CUTE
What an outstanding video. The thought behind your script, shots, editing, music and friendly on air talent make this production and your channel a lot of fun. Thank you for making these short films for us to savor.
