Hahahahaha!! Liked the commentary. I just bought a 2008 SMR 510 and it is soooo much fun!! Raced motocross for years as a kid and love splitting bumper to bumper traffic while more than half the losers on the road are texting or surfing the Net in traffic and not moving when the light turns green...kills me, but not on 2 wheels, ha!! Not good for freeways here in SoCal because you don't want to keep the RPMs up for long distances. This thing is tuned/built to be a closed course race bike. FUN!! I am a Husky fan now after only racing on a Honda and Kawasaki.

I understand you also love this bike, for the reasons you mentioned. But the 'negative' points are also heavy: frequent maintenance, not suitable for commuting, risky for your license. If you are really thinking about selling one of your bikes, don't you think this is a candidate for an auction?

None of your business how much he does or doesn't use HIS bikes.. Nice suggesting stuff but don't tell someone that they need to honour there bike or some bs.. its up to him to decide what he wants to do or use the bike for and how often..
If you got a GS wouldn't you be able to find some way to store it w/o selling one of your bikes?
He said in a recent video that if he got a GS, it would probably mean selling one. Storage in the UK is tight.
I had a 2012 SM 630 Husky running a FMF pipe & tuned up to the max. A great bike. I upgraded to a Aprilia 1200 Dorsoduro a bigger faster hooligan machine. Hey RJ love your posts come ride in NZ we have some great roads
i have one of these and license loser is the best way to describe it!
I know the feeling of having to change the oil and filter so often. My ktm sxf 250 requires an oil/filter change every 10-15 hours or 2/3 fuel tanks but then again its amazing having a bike with 45hp that weighs around 100kg

1000mile valve check is by the book.
The bike is a purpose built race bike with lights.
If you ride it like a normal bike on the street (not flat out redlining every ride) you can double or even triple the service intervals.
I have owned plenty of supermotos before and their service intervals, by the book, are stupid aswell. But the manufacturer go by dirt riding and track riding scenarios and not road riding.
I've even owner an Aprilia sxv550. Apparently they are the worst supermoto for service intervals and reliability. In 2 years of road riding it and some track days, I've never had a problem with it. By the time I sold it it had 20xxxklms on the engine.

One of my favourite bike of yours, but if i choose husqvarna i would chose the 701 supermoto... that motorcycle is the all package for a supermoto and a normal bike :)
I wish there was a lower cc maintenance friendly supermoto :(
It is, they made the 701 to be a more normal bike in maintenance, actually this bike and KTM 690 SMC are very similar, they are made to be a supermoto and a comute bike, what i've heard the consumption are a little less than other's supermotos.
I have a 701 supermoto husqvarna calls for maintenance every 6200 miles.
In my KTM 525 I do the maintenance in every 800 miles, so 6200 miles for me is the dream ahahah
FFA yea its a great all around bike. I do oil every 3k just because of how I ride, it only takes 2 quarts. and fuel economy is excellent I've yet to get less than 130 miles from the full tank and I've got as much as 160 just cruising

As always a really nice bike..one question: what's that little tube attached to the exhaust, right next to the cylinder?
To be frank, no idea, the only system I ever saw that has that.
that's probably some kind of resonator to keep the nasty sounds down
A resonator, perhaps?
It's an expansion for exhaust gas management, use the principle of resonance, something similar to the 2 stroke exhaust system.
Not so uncommon in racing exhaust for mono cylinder 4 stroke.
You guys are right, I just checked on the interwebs, that's an expansion chamber for smoother power delivery at low rpm.

Perfect. For me looks wise an Austin Racing stubby for example rather than the current can would add further to the minimalist style rather than detract. Your thoughts RJ?
In terms of dB it would be unrideable just like when I put an Austin racing shortie on the 1290.
Sorry I wasn't aware of the db issue with a shorty on.
Looks wise I still think it adds to the no fuss clean look if you will. Thanks for sharing RJ as always.

Little question, ever ride an Aprilia SXV/RXV? Love the bike, very much race oriented like this Husky, maintenance is a pain, but the bike is crazy good looking and very special and rare.
Would love to hear your thoughts in comparison on this SMR..
I did ride the 550 for 30 minutes and tried many times to get one but all I found were abused. As to how they compare, can't comment as it was a short ride on the 550 some years back.
Hey RJ, love the videos. Keep 'em coming! Wanted to ask you too, what is your preferred break in method? I've got 300 mi on a 900 and am paranoid about long trips (sustained RPMs). Also, do you wait until after break in to add your Akros? First new bike.
I break them hard but never sustained RPM's and never let it labour. I usually wait after break in, but the KTM was an exception.

Do you still have the 511SMR? I just picked one up as well. I really want the alpina wheels too but they are very costly. How often are the oil changes? I hear it's every 3000ish miles rather than every 1000.... any input?
If a bike is tuned/modified, does it need to have more frequent service intervals? I'm in the process of modding my ktm duke 390

TURNMILS You have any idea why they are so rare? Import laws? I'd image them to be easy to import, seeing as the UK is so close to Europe. Where as, I think, they are a lot more popular in Aus. (That being said, it took me 6month to find one on Bike Sales.)
I thought being you (until recently) in Europe wasn't too expensive for you to import the bikes, maybe I was wrong..

Just a few moments ago I was coming home and I saw a KTM 525 exc, a Kawasaki KLX650R and a Husqvarna 510 TE.. I'm in Portugal ☺
It's just this specific year and shape as it was owned by BMW at the time and they changed it, they have had husky 510's for years and years so you have most likely seen another years model.
110kg is SUPER light.
I've ridden 125cc scooters that weight 109kg.
Nipandeerus 95 OK... they're nice enough in a city where the average speed is about 40 to 50 kph. and also crowded

It's the expansion or resonance chamber, I can't really explain the purpose of it... but it has something to do with the waves and power, optimizing blabla. You should look it up (:
that little thing comprime the gases and it can give you like 1 or 2 extra horse power... we have a different name in my country and i can't translate to english!!
Is it "aftermarket tuned" or does it come like that from the factory, apart from the exhaust?
From factory you get an optional plug, once installed unleashes full power (Map II), this one has also a PCV, Akra system, free flow air filter and dyno tuned to unleash even more.
