    Basically the reason I heavily weather miniatures that I want to paint quickly, but I still want to look good. Wash too dark? It's dirty. Smudged something? A bit of grime or discoloration. Accidentally mixed acrylics and enamels? Get a splattering effect, pretend it was intentional. Accidentally leave your minis out in the rain unprotected? Pretend they're supposed to look like that!

    Finally, a video that clearly explains how to achieve a smooth blends in a simple way that actually makes it sound achievable with simple techniques and ideas, many thanks, this seems to be a subject that gets a lot of attention but most just focus on making everything look perfect, personally I prefer getting a 'good-ish' transition and then weather over the top because weathering done well adds so much more than fancy highlighting techniques and non-metallic shiny bits because while that looks very striking and clever, the model has no context or story to it, it just looks like its been plonked into a scene a bit clumsily, but now I might actually give this a shot

    • @ArtisOpus

      Hey mate, thanks so much, really glad you've liked it, I feel pretty strongly that it's something very important, as it helps people focus on the proper finished (narrative/thematic) result, like you said.

    amazing vid. I have always hided my wet blending mistakes with weathering, but It never figured out those other methods. The internet has a ton of videos explaining how to do the technics, and the practice is up to the painter, but this type of video really makes a difference. You might still not be able to do super smooth blends, but you'll achieve much better results by being clever on how to use them.

      @cablesalad3168 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ArtisOpus Don't worry, they're incredibly easy to work with. Even a scrub like me managed to pull off some amazing weathering and paint jobs. Try the Abteilung 502 oil color line and some enamel weathering washes to go with it. Or make your own enamel washes with the abteilung 502 oil colors. You'll never go back to GW's washes after that, or use acrylics for blends. It's such a game changer, I promise it will blow your mind! I can still recommend them, even though AK Interactive sadly is dropping the ball (and quality) all across the board lately. I'm no Marco Frisoni by any means, but if you wanna give them a shot and need some help or have some questions, I'd gladly help you out. [Edit:] Just don't use your gorgeous Artis Opus Sable brushes on them. You need mineral spirits, which will take a heavy toll on any brush, therefore use cheap synthetic brushes, if possible. By the way: I'd totally buy a synthetic Artis Opus brush line ;-) I got all the current Kolinsky sable sets and I'm extremely pleased with them.

    Interesting, i've done this subconciously from day one really - ah the blend doesn't look enough on it's own - throw some pattern over the top, exagerate some damage or texture details, throw in some dirt and scratches, all great techniques for covering up a lack of talent in blending which hands down is the most difficult to achieve for the impatient painter like myself. Nice to see it explained though.

    Really interesting video. I think Kujo also uses the texturing to blend approach quite well.
    Do you think your BROW approach could be applicable to things like skins, if they're smoother? Break up the area with tattoos, faint scarring, or freckles/birth marks etc...I really struggle with smooth organic surfaces.

    • @ArtisOpus
      @ArtisOpus  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      100% Haldane (and yes, Kujo is wonderful!). Tattoos and tribal markings are great, tattoos and dirt also, if it's alien/animal you can put down print or splotches super easily - google sharks and look how stark the colour changes are from white to light grey - nature doesn't obsess about smooth transitions as much as we like to think!

    I never thought about blending that way... until now. That's really cool! Something to keep in mind for sure... So hey... how's that hectic conversion chaos army coming along? :P

      Just need to fight myself some time to spend on it dude, it's such an inefficient thing, because labour of love, so it'll move on more when I have a few less busy weeks, especially once painting kicks off!

      @@ArtisOpus Fair enough. Probably best not to force it with this type of thing. Its a pretty big undertaking but worth it in the end I think. Can't wait to see how it progresses!

    Perhaps a contrast glaze coming our way? Definitely tuning in to find out more...Also secretly hoping that somehow you might slip in a colour recipie for the white style of deathwing armour that's in the deathwing PC game...a boy can hope!

      Haa, I am still working out how to get something unique and efficient for white power armour, it will feature some point soon, once I have :)

      @@martineasterman5170 Thank you so much for your kind words, man! Glad you're still finding them useful, white armour is on the list probably in about 10 vids time given what we have planned🤞

      @@ArtisOpus look forward to it and I noticed you showed a bottle of pro acryl bright ivory...for my deathwing I'm currently wondering if their ivory with a bright ivory highlight might work maybe working up from some other colour like Olive flesh...but I'll wait for your video! Great work though.

    I actually like the advice, I have not thought of it this way, but I will say, I was hoping for cheating blending, not distracting from it ! :P Let's flex the blend muscles?! Or are we all just cheaters aiming to purposely fool our brains and in turn our eyes? :D Oh the deceivers ...

      Not this time, dude. It was all about driving home the message of the video 😊 We will be covering some more intermediate and advanced techniques in the near future, however.✌
