I can't tell you how much I love this comment. I also live in Syracuse and I was 15 when I went to my first Benny concert. I'm 58 now and I couldn't begin to tell you how many concerts I've been to. Benny was an amazing person who had an amazing voice. I met my best friend at that concert and we are friends to this day.
He wrote this song for a girl whose family was DEVASTATED by their father suddenly ditching them in poverty and he helped those kids through it. The 16 year old was the most crushed and this song was for her and them. It’s not a sex based song. He paid all three kids weekly just to do little errands for him. It’s a BEAUTIFUL song❤

This song gave me chills 40 years ago, the first time I heard it, and it still does today. Benny was one of a kind, who will forever hold his unique, never to be duplicated spot in the music industry. What a voice.
An absolutely beautiful and equally controversial song. Timeless, romantic and brutally honest. Cutting edge and bravely written and performed. Even though the meaning, supposedly, is very different than from what anyone would think.
I'll be 66 soon, and this song STILL makes me shake with chills, as many times as I've heard it. I've always said that when Benny recorded this, and walked out "into the night" in Miami, there was nothing left: he left everthing he had on that studio floor. He gave it every last measure of the power that was in his heart and his soul. There will NEVER be another recording like this, and there will NEVER be another Benny Mardones. The combination of his and Bobby's songwriting and his soaring, Earth-shaking vocal performance can never be duplicated. The only thing I can say, regarding my absolute devotion to this great song, how I feel about it, is "I can't measure my love...there's nothing to compare it to." One of the greatest lines EVER put to music. Rest in eternal peace, Benny, and know that you gave the World something we can never repay you for.

There is not one live recording of him singing this song that is bad. Not one. I know, because I've seen and listened to each and every one of them. You've still got my undying respect, Mr. Mardones.

I just learned of his death in June 2020. I am glad that he enjoyed a nice career run in central New York in his later years. R.I.P. , Benny. We love you.
Amazing... always loved this song. That is why it is called a SONG. Is everyone so ignorant that a singer can’t sing a simple song without being labeled a freak, a pedi, etc... it is a SONG, that simple, and beautifully performed. If we tore apart every song that we truly loved, everyone would be labeled something negative, sadly that’s what today’s society does. Stop judging and enjoy 😉
Amazing - 30+ yrs. later. Still one of my faves from my 30 yr.old self. What most of the posts don't get/understand (& I'm not knocking you!), this is our music - the 60s,70s,80s. The original video was an MTV moment to match the words & actions. The song itself is, quite simply, a love song. If it had personal meaning or not, it was, for so many of us, a love song. We never hear a love song anymore - we have to go back in time (thanks to TH-cam) to hear them. The singers/bands didn't have elaborate costumes, they weren't paid zillions but, whether they sang a fast dance number or a slow, romantic song, they played their hearts out for the joy of the music. Go back to my parents time - the 40's. Sinatra, Goodman, Miller all started the same way, traveling from town to town, night after night, trying to make a living, bringing the music to those who love it. I write off the 90s and today - I can't dance to it, sing to it and can't understand half of the words to it. I'll listen to Mom's music, my music, as my kids (in their 40s) listened to mine and I to theirs. One thing no one can take away from any of us is our music - our favorites still playing in our heads, coming across one we had forgotten, a song reflecting a personal moment in our lives. Sit back and enjoy it.
Well said my friend. Music is the soundtrack of our lives....Isn't it funny though how we didn't realize back when how important these songs would be to us later?
What ??? What was the guy out there doing sO bad??? Looks like he was just enjoying himself AND his song after all he’s at a CONCERT! kind of felt it Was unnecessary Maybe I missed something

Not by a long shot....and this song was a hit TWICE. He has released many many albums and still performs. In fact, I'll be seeing him Memorial Day weekend int the Syracuse area where he is performing 2 shows. Things are actually picking up for him and he is about to release a CD. Check out the documentary trailer, also on You Tube, "Into The Night, The Benny Mardones Story"...it's amazing!!! He is AWESOME and he's one of my best friends.
I've adored this song since the day it hit the charts. I never saw Benny perform this song before, even on television. Seeing him for the first time here, looking, performing and sounding so fantastic, this really was an emotional moment for a longtime fan who never got to see him doing what he does best.
I can't believe I missed this man back in the 80s. I hadn't heard of him up until a few weeks ago, now I can't let go. I've fallen in love, too little too late.😢

We could change it to she was 19 years old and have it legal.
No they sure couldn't.
Amen to that !!!
Maybe Steve Perry
I think Bruno Mars could do it!
this was my favourite song in 1980 and i still love it today
Song is the bomb!
I could listen to it 24/7 if i could. Never grow tired of it.
One of my favorite songs from the 80's! He has an incredible voice, so expressive! A beautiful song I could listen to again & again!!
@@gloriagardner439 I have...BACK TO BACK....
It was my favourite when it came back in '88. Timeless, beautiful and absolutely flawless.
He nailed it
This song still gives me goosebumps -- will never tire of it; will love it always!
He's still singing damn good here.
R.I.P. Benny Mardones😞
To all the people who don't like this video- the only reason you don't like it because you've never heard real music before! I got to see him live when I worked for the balloon fest in Syracuse New York and that was awesome! Even know he's old enough to be my grandfather he can still sing like crazy!
Lucky you
I just read your comment that you left 6 years ago.
If you are still there....curious about how your life has been going
over the past 6 years? Everything still good? What have you learned or experienced? Just thought I would chat with ya
@@good-bye_blue_sky All is well with me. Moved south & live alone in the sticks & like my freedom. How about you?

I was actually asking the person who left the message 6 years ago Amber.
But since you answered...
You are lucky to be able to do that!

This is such a great song! I love it just as much now as I did back then!! He has such an incredible voice, it’s rough and smooth at the same time! So Beautiful!
I can watch this all day long, Benny was an incredible talent, no one compares, he will surely be missed.
Omg, that sounded better than the first recording. I love that passion in his voice.
I was 26 when this song came out. It was timely. I was dating a 16 y.o. girl at the time and was so in love with her and so heartbroken when we had to end it. I would listen to this song and remember it raining outside and thinking it was the end of the world. Im 68 now but I still like the song and it immediately reminds me of that time in my life like it was yesterday.
I had 1 too but she said 'she didnt love me anymore' am divorced now
I just read a comment by a woman named Lori who said she was 16 when this song came out and dating a 26 year old!!
Chomo
Creep. Imagine admitting being a child molestor. No adult should be with a 16yo child.
Brilhante e eterno musica maravilhosa Benny inesquecível e eterno Rip descanse Lenda
Wow, he can show Miley, Biebs, Beyoncé, and all the musicians today how it was really done!
"musicians today" was a little charitable. Products is what they are.
@@mmoonnchildd I couldn't have said it better myself!!
Right on!!! Benny sure could take that song into the night! Music today is mostly trash.
Exactly
Benny has been suffering from many health problems. He's a Navy vet. There's a GoFundMe page up for him. So disheartening.
That’s my song! I’m an African American woman and this song has no color. I was a 20 year old college student when this song came on the radio while I was working at the sandwich shop. I’m a widow now and still listening to this timeless piece of art. Rest in peace Mr. Benny Mardones.
those were the days, the world has changed so much I told my adult kids that if they could go back in time to when I grew up, they wouldn't even recognize the world. no cell phones, no pagers, hardly anyone had a computer, how the hell did we do it?? haha
Wished I could go back in time to one of his concerts Great artist
There is not one live recording of him singing this song that is bad. Not one. I know, because I've seen and listened to each and every one of them. You've still got my undying respect, Mr. Mardones.
His very last performance...LIVE.....th-cam.com/video/SI8WjP4Sgw4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=lYvjU8bTRgXuQb5T
Tremenda voz, bella, que desgarra y te desarma.. Cuando joven tenía la voz parecida a otro grande la la música el vocalista de The Journey. Porque tuvo que ser así.. Nunca lo sabremos, solo darle gracias por habernos dejado su música!
Sadly he now has Parkinsons but this is indeed an incredibly moving beautifully wrought tune.

Love this song makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck. Also makes me want to cry. His voice never have I ever heard someone with a voice like that. RIP wish I could have seen you sing this in person.
I just learned of his death in June 2020. I am glad that he enjoyed a nice career run in central New York in his later years. R.I.P. , Benny. We love you.

Omg my most favorite song ever
Benny is great but man, that bass player is outstanding.
Amo essa música 😍
Bass player, Tepper, also co-wrote the song! ♥️
This song still raises the hairs on the back of my neck. What a voice. What a fab song! Classic!
Amazing... always loved this song.
Best comment about music ever.
My fav, loved it and always will
Well said my friend. Music is the soundtrack of our lives....Isn't it funny though how we didn't realize back when how important these songs would be to us later?
RIP Benny, I remember chatting with you at Lakeside Bakery when you lived in Lakeland, NY. Saw you a few times at Longbranch Park,
Peace
Benny keeping the crowd straight! Performer and security!

Don't feel bad I've been listening to it all week just because I can.

WOW! He nailed the vocals on this one. Always one of my favorite songs, and he did a fantastic job on it all those years later. Love it.
I’ll never get sick of listening to this song it’s by far one of the greats 🎤
How many of you can remember dancing to this? I do rest in peace and thank you for the Memories
I've adored this song since the day it hit the charts. I never saw Benny perform this song before, even on television. Seeing him for the first time here, looking, performing and sounding so fantastic, this really was an emotional moment for a longtime fan who never got to see him doing what he does best.
Same here, loved him for his sound. Great to see him on Video. Would have loved to see him LIVE!
I can't believe I missed this man back in the 80s. I hadn't heard of him up until a few weeks ago, now I can't let go. I've fallen in love, too little too late.😢
