Hi, in order to test the dynamic range, as mentioned, I underexpose my shots and push the exposure in light room. This is a typical testing routine and not the proper way in taking a photo. This is to see how much recovery does each brand offers to their end users. cheers
The K1 is still holding on strong on 2020. the image quality and the DR is astounding even 4 years after. As always thanks for the comparison Li, nice job!
Some valid points there . I think even with this results here with iso + DR, we can conclude that Pentax will generally be better. I think your testing is to the extreme case of DR testing.
Sir my nikon 810 is problem, for viewFinder focus is change in selected subject but same setting Live view Focus is Clear in selected subject ,which is problem plese Solve

Nice video...does the Nikon have a Grip. The Pentax with the BG6 Grip...would be my choice. I have a K3ii with a BG5 grip. No battery issues & handles really well. :)
Alistair Bell I actually own the battery grip for the Nikon. So more battery power for the long run . So 2 nikon battery will equal to 3 Pentax k1 battery. This is if someone is going for a long adventure.

If I remember correctly. It is identical to the K1 except the trade off with the DR to the AF speed. The DR on the MKII really didnt suited me. The shadows started to get purple but the af was slightly faster. With that said, the MK 1 was my choice over the MKII.

My comment over at DPR: Regarding fantastic new sensors capturing wide dynamic range, thereby lessening the need for grad ND's: I think the processing engines of different makers are also involved here. Li at The CameraVille compared Dynamic Range performance of the same 36mpx Sony sensor in Nikon D810, Sony A7r, and Pentax K-1. The Pentax Prime IV engine produced noticeably better DR than the other two cameras with the same sensor. Must be the processing unit . . .

Very nice comparison :) I am still waiting for the New APS-C flagship :) hopefully it will have eye-autofocus. Thats what I really miss at my Pentax Shooting the Kids
yea, it was so bad. That just means if you are even adjusting your A7r files, the color will shift like crazy. So you need to always get the shot right at first or else no way to recover.

I wouldnt recommend it for sports but you can use it for sports. Just make sure you done spray and pray. Make sure you fie the shot you are looking for.

It’s unfair to not test the Nikon at its true base ISO of 64. At ISO 64 it tests as having better dynamic range as the K1 and I would have like to see a comparison of the Nikon at ISO 64 and 100 vs the others.
As a Nikon user for 15 years. There was nothing I could to show to my nikonians that would put that #1. Im only getting into the pentax system because of this reason. They dynamic range is just killer on this system. The 64 was left out for further embarrassment. Also to be fair, this is comparing all the iso level through out the range that was the same values.
@@theCameraVille I own both Pentax K1 and Nikon D810. I do find K1 is a little better in image quality, while D810 is more versatile. I think Nikon tends to expose to the right, which looks a little over exposed. But the real difference is not that big if you lower Nikon's exposure for 1/3 in post. Or you could just shoot ISO 64 with Nikon and ISO 100 with Pentax at the same shutter speed. K1 may still looks a little better, but the gap is smaller. Keep up the good work!

Yea, I never saw an advantage difference in going 42/45 from a 36. This is sort of why I kept in this range.

Pentax focusing is slow, i had a K3 and move to A7iii and the focusing speed + accuracy is night and day !!!

bong kem My K3 goes well, I really like it. The K3 struggles in low light though for night games. I haven’t really considered mirrorless at this time.
