I have the first keyboard version but couldn’t resist getting the delux as well. Excellent synth it really is one of the best value synths on the market really!!
I just bought both double packages, single and dual layer, before my Deluxe has even arrived. Man, these sounds are so extraordinarily well put together (and presented, for that matter) - you're absolutely awesome. Thanks!
I just bought this yesterday! Can't wait for it to be delivered! I was very close to getting the 1st keyboard version they released, but I'm so glad I waited now. It's gonna also be my first full scale keyboard in my studio.
Thanks for sharing! I hope you enjoy it - it's great to have the extra keys and as I hope my videos show, the ability to layer and split is very useful as well. Thanks for subscribing too!
Hey @synthsamurairadio thanks that's great! I'm sure the Deluxe will be a good addition for you. Every synth has its own personality doesn't it? I'll look forward to a future video on your channel on the Deluxe...Thanks again for your interest in my sounds!
Same thing here, I was dancing around the Deluxe for about 1,5 years now, being somewhat underwhelmed by my UDO Super 6 quickly after buing it, but still refusing to sell it. Now, finally, Jim's videos made me put my Super 6 on Ebay and use the money to get the Hydrasynth Deluxe. It's due tomorrow. I'm all excited.
I just ordered the Deluxe a few days ago (comes eventually tomorrow). Your Videos helped me to decide which Synth i want to have! there were a few i´s interested in, but your sound examples (and of coarse polytouch and the Strip and more) have convinced me of the deluxe! Thanks alot and keep going!
Many thanks for your feedback! I'm pleased the videos have been helpful. Have fun with your Deluxe: if you're new to Hydrasynth I would suggest taking the time to absorb the manual as it's instructive and well-worded. The oscillator mutants are key in getting the wide range of timbres so worth also taking time to learn how they work. Gearspace forum threads are helpful too. Cheers
Thanks for your feedback! Like any deep synth, it can take a while to understand if you're new to Hydrasynth, but after the initial learning curve it's a joy to program. In my experience, purchasing quality 3rd party patches can really help to learn the synth and as launching pads for your own sounds. The original Hydrasynth presets were weak but the Deluxe Multi presets are better. There's good advice on Gearspace Hydrasynth forum threads too. Have fun if you take the plunge...
The Jean-Michel Jarre inspiration is clear here, sounds awesome. How do you find the polyphonic aftertouch on this thing? I can't tell if you're using it when performing.
Thanks for your feedback! The poly aftertouch is great - so flexible and expressive. It's a disappointment moving to other synths that don't have it. I often use it subtly just to brighten/ dampen the filter or add noise or more extreme ways like altering the pitch. But many of the sounds in this video don't even have much poly AT or velocity control as I wanted the sound emulating the old analog synths to be the most important feature
Thanks for your question. No, these sounds are only for Deluxe because they use two layers. However, I do have similar sounds in my original Hydrasynth Sound Banks that are compatible with Explorer. Sound examples and further links to demos are here: th-cam.com/video/I71J_124oXo/w-d-xo.html
I have mixed feelings about my HSD. I love that it can do so many different sounds but I suck at programming anything from scratch. However, there are tons of great sounding patches available for purchase from you & others. The UI is easy to get around BUT if you don't know how to create patches from scratch it's a bit of "uhh what should I do next?". I don't know how to program a specific sound that I'm looking for. I just know if I like the sound of a patch or not & tweak it to my liking. There's nothing in the manual to teach anyone how to create specific sounding Hydra patches from nothing. I'm considering selling the HSD for an Opsix SE or Groove Synthesis 3rd Wave but haven't decided just yet.
Thanks for sharing! You're right that many synth manuals don't give guidance on creating patches, because with complex digital synths it would probably take too many pages. Analog synths are more straightforward of course and are where many people learn to program. Be careful about trading the HSD for another complex digital synth as you will probably be faced with same problem. I've helped some people learn programming from scratch with the Hydra, and it works well because of the UI. There are no ideal books I would recommend, but plenty of resources online for those who want to learn. If you disregard the wavetable aspects, mod matrix and FX, you can treat the Hydra as a simple synth to learn on, using the basic oscillator waveforms, filters and envelopes. This way you can cover a lot of ground. An FM synth could be confusing as the raw sounds are generated a different way than with conventional subtractive synths. Good luck with it anyway - it's a very rewarding thing to learn and worth the initial effort!
@@synthuniverse Thank you for the thoughtful reply. I'm going to hold on to it for a few more months. I've just found some helpful tips from videos by Daniel of Sweetwater and some other videos. I think I just need to dedicate some serious time to learning it all. I have a Korg Wavstate that I love and it only took me a few weeks to learn. I think I prefer it because you can build from samples and import your own. Hydra is a different beast all together. I'm not used to creating from scratch. A great tip I read is to find some patches I really like and then look at all the settings for what's doing what to kind of deconstruct it. I'll get there eventually. If all else fails it still makes a great controller for other gear! 😄
Hello Jim, something isn't all clear to me. On your website you say that all sounds of previous Huydrasynth sounds banks are contained on the Deluxe version. How can it be, as the previous version has 128 sounds, and the Deluxe version has 64 sounds ? Thank you for your answer.
Hello thanks for your question. Just to be clear: the original Hydrasynth sound banks vol 1 and 2 combined contain 128 single patches in total (64 in each bank). The Deluxe sound banks combined contain 64 Multi patches (32 in each bank). However, Multi patches each contain two single sounds, so overall there are 128 separate sounds that make up the 64 Multi patches. But the Deluxe sound banks contain completely different patches to the original Hydra sound banks, so they are complimentary. I hope that helps!
@@brandynknight4928 Yes that's right if the sound bank says just Hydrasynth and not 'Deluxe' then it's for original Hydrasynth keyboard and desktop and Hydrasynth Explorer
After listening to these sounds I’m sold as I’m new to the Hydra dlx I haven’t figured out how to create my own sounds on it yet so I just need to know what do I need to do to down load these sounds . I don’t remember if they shipped with a cable to connect to my Mac but please let me know from start to finish what to do for this process to happen thanks
No worries. When you purchase the sounds they come with a 'Read me' pdf doc which explains step by step how to load new sounds into your Hydrasynth. Once you get used to it it's quite straightforward. Yes you will need a USB printer type USB cable to connect to your Mac - ideally connect direct to your Mac or via a powered USB hub rather than a passive USB hub. Any problems email me at: synthuverse@gmail.com
Thanks for your feedback! Yes I'm with you having been raised on old analog synths too. But weirdly, it's not a problem for me when programming the Hydrasynth. The 8 macro buttons are used to adjust parameters, so they designed it in a way that whatever page you're in there is always 'one knob per function'. Given the depth of the synth I think they designed it very well.
Yes that's right, all the sounds can be purchased by following the link in description. If you buy the bundle you get vols 1 and 2 and all sounds featured in this video. There are many other sounds in the banks and they are all demonstrated in separate videos - also linked in the description. Hope this helps!
Sounds great. You demonstrate that very convincing analog-style sounds are possible using dual layer patches.
