- How to make things happen. Work until you hit a problem, solve the problem, and repeat. This is my first timber project I have ever worked on and it was most certainly a challenge. But a welcome one, that turned out great. With certainty I can say one of the main reasons I chose the projects I do is to learn new skill. Not only was I fortunate enough to be able to borrow a friends sawmill, but lucky enough to have some people to help me learn how to use it and that goes for the new 372xp Husqvarna as well. More work to be done on this project so be sure to subscribe and stay stuned!
THIS IS NOT AN INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEO. I'm not an engineer by any means, just a fella with a creek to cross.

I Built A Bridge in the Woods - My First Timber Project - Will It Hold?
Mike, you are too kind! It was great to meet you and it was even cooler to help you with your project. You and the derby crew are what made me want to try this TH-cam thing. Awesome community of flat out great people. Keep doing what you're doing, we all love seeing it!
Hey you’re welcome here anytime Lee! Thanks again for the help.
@@CaptainKleeman load youre bucket for weight on frontend for turning. have a good family week
Hey Lee! I met you at the Expo 👍 Nice to see you in the video as well. Glad you were there to help out!
@@digdrivediy Hey Neil! Thanks! Working with Kleeman was great. I love that type of work. I just wish I had more time to do it, like we talked about before. I need to go to your school of editing, it's awesome work!
@@2-bar-one That was exactly what I was going to recommend to him. Even 100 lbs would do him wonders on that front end for steering.
Well that is some bench for your first timber project Mike!!! OK, so where are you going to mount the vice ??? 🤔🤦♂️
The Husky will be a great saw for you, now it has a full recoil function!!!
You can always learn from your peers, they have plenty of experience to share, I'm sure they can learn from you too !!
Great to see your youngest make an appearance or two, she is a character and a half, wonder where she gets it from ??? I'm pleased she clarified she was not a proper pirate, you may have been made to walk the plank.....
Enjoy your week away with the family, you have earned it 👍💪😁
Man captain great video.the bridge can taKe the 8500across 😆 that's a beefy bridge you don't haVe to worry about that.great to see the kiddo out with you. her and you are having a great time and great memories that will last a life time .keep it up and great chanle 👍 don't worry about the haters posting on here .we do wHen reading comments.have fun and enjoy you vacation to Gatlinburg we went last year love the scenery and great memories for us.👌✌️😎👍
Cap’n you know the project is gonna go like magic when a pirate in a fairy dress shows up to help!! Injun-ears from all four corners of the known Flat Earth will marvel at that bridge!!! Half suspension, half tension and half compression…. That sir is a bridge and a half!
It was my pleasure to meet both Lee and John… thank you for affording the excuse to head your direction. The experiences I had were incredible.
Now about that ‘Walnut’ tree. It definitely wasn’t black walnut. It looks more like something in the hickory family. Is it possible that it was pecan wood? Or, mockernut hickory? At any rate it was beautiful wood.
When I was building my zip line I used a cutoff wheel in an angle grinder. I just wrapped the cable in duct tape and cut right through it.
I showed my wife the turbo-leaf blower. She said, “Don’t get any ideas about blowing burning leaves in the woods. He’s a firefighter. You’re a fire starter.” So, I guess I’ll have to try it out while she’s not at home!
Enjoy your vacation… and once again, thanks.
You were a incredible asset to Mike as his self-esteem was on a drift from shore knowing he was in a bit deeper than he had estimated. Mikes a guy that you like no matter what. I know I would love to meet him.
@@morgansword yes, he is likable and cheers you up just being around him.
Thanks
The term 'over-engineered' comes to mind. That bridge is solid! Enjoy your vacation. You have earned it!
of cuss it'll hold - i have no doubts at all - dam fine bridge mister - you got a right to be proud of it. looks like much accomplished including much fun. wow- didn't know you were into competitive tractor tipping. hacksaw works on steel rope. re pulling logs with the tractor - load the bucket with soemthing - helps keep the front wheels on the ground
beautiful family you have- and they have a wonderful dad. DIY thompsons water seal - half linseed oil - half mineral spirits/paint thinner - spray - vary proportions to taste.
One of the best competitive tractor tippers around 😂😂
Mikey the fantastic job on that bridge that I've been watching since you started it you definitely need to take a vacation have a great vacation with your family will miss you but this is Bob from Vero Beach Florida God bless and have a great day
Congratulations job well done!!!! The guy is right your grandkids will be saying. “ My grandfather built this!!!”
Your little pirate/princess keeps asking "are you all right Dad?" You are a very lucky Dad to have such a caring child.
The luckiest!
Great video today, Cap'n! Lots of help from the prettiest pirate princess ever! Arrr! I sure miss mine being that little. The bridge is looking awesome and you deserve that vacation time. Enjoy!
They grow up fast! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for letting us invite ourselves over, we had a great time hanging out! 14:55 I laughed out loud again!! Good times!
😂😂. Was definitely a good time.
If you had shown me someone using a torch as a leaf blower I would have guessed they were a firefighter. The bridge turned out way better then I expected, having this vision and being able to build it is awesome. You should be really proud of it. On a side note make sure you chemically treat the Tree of Heaven, otherwise you are doing nothing but creating a larger problem. We joke if you cut one 50 come to it's funeral the next spring.
Great job on the bridge Mike. FYI...to make it easier to hook up that ball hitch coupler on your log carrier, just back off the big nut on the bottom of it a turn or two until it locks down. You make me nervous when ever I see you haul that thing not locked down.
A 5 year old - about making memories not just a bridge. Have a great holiday and make more memories - best wishes from the sunny Uk
I love how your daughters first concern was whether you were OK. Once it was established that you were fine...pure joyful laughter.
Have a safe trip.
Keep cutting as the tree falls to a point them walk away. Your daughter lightens up the video and your smile. Have a good vacation
It's good to have friends, and a special pirate by your side. Lol. Have a blessed, safe, and healthy vacation.
Agreed! Thanks for watching
Hi Mike , great vidio :) all of it was good but the part that got me was we you dropped the board and said ouch and your daughters reaction and concern for you was Priceless . what a blessing for you :) Hope you and your family have a Blessed week.
It is your bridge, build it how you want to! No kidding it looks good, and will last a good while. Just my 2 cents. The best to you, and yours.
Thanks Frank!
I’m a British builder and there was never any doubt that bridge would hold ! VERY well built and great attention to detail to make it last, you should be very proud of yourself Mike ! Your grandchildren in adulthood will still be admiring the bridge that grandad built. It’s a seriously big first timber build 😂🤣😂 Great job 👍🇬🇧🇺🇸
Awesome comment and we say hello to y'all
@Paul Johnson ???
@Paul Johnson you don't need one sir plus you just posted
@Paul Johnson ah man I'm sorry about that have a great day
We all need a vacation..enjoy,see you when you get back, thanks for sharing 👍🏾
Make no excuses you had a vision and you followed through!! Congrats
Thanks Don!
Mike, when you are moving logs up the hill, put a log in the bucket for added weight when climbing the hill/slope, it will make it easier to turn while going up. Nice bridge 🌉!
Great build ! Should still be there when the Grandkids are visiting !! thumbs up !
Thank you!
TH-cam videos like yours is the reason I no longer have cable TV in my house. Keep up the good job.
Hey appreciate the feedback!
Friends and family just make it that much more fun! The only thing I would've done different on the bridge would have another beam in the center from end to end. That way there is full support on both sides and the center for the planks. Other than that, it is very solid. Looking forward to seeing the finishing touches on the ends and the trail clearing to complete it all!
Man dude the hell with the know it alls n haters ...thats one strong bridge n will stand up til you are 100 yrs old or longer ..awesome 👌 job
We are always learning something new everyday if we’re lucky!! That bridge isn’t going anywhere, built like a brick s..t house as we said in the old days 😂 Love seeing you get some help!! Good times by all. 👍🇺🇸
A great little supervisor you had helping. Great content. 😂🤙
The whole pirate episode was hilarious! It's always good to have a pirate by your side. Never can tell when you may need their help. Cool little project. Stay safe brother.
Agreed! Hey thanks for watching.
Hi Mike...When hauling heavy logs causes your tractor's front wheels to lift, may I suggest that you scoop up a front end loader bucket full of dirt to use as ballast to help keep those steer wheels on the ground. I enjoy the vids...keep-em-coming !!
Awesome job!!! I love it!! U can use half diesel and half motor oil, mix together and spray on for a stain. What would be really cool would be to build a roof over it!! Or even a roof and sides like a tunnel bridge!!
So great watching Capt Kiddo playing along with you… They grow mutch to fast. 👍
Have fun mike! Nice job on the bridge! Those saws Are a pain. Just wait till you try starting it in the cold. Here is a hint place the saw by a heat source b4 you do. Trust. Me! Lol
.....you and Jon are two of the nicest guys on youtube.....and i appreciate the fact that y'all are not afraid to use a razor!
Hi Captain
The bridge looks great after all the hard work you have put in.
Nice to see your daughter make you stop and spend time with her. Make the memories while you can (and while your daughter's want to spend time with you).
Enjoy your family holiday.
Coincidentally, my wife and I are off this week and will be recharging our batteries with a short break away from life's stresses.
I think you should get 'future Mike' to muck in. He has been slacking of late.
Michael (from Scotland)
Enjoy your recharge!
Capt, that thar is one awesome looken bridge👌👍👍👍👍👍 Hope YOU all have a relaxing vacation😺🤗
Thank you!
Just finished watching your Video. Your daughter is so darn funny and cute. Reminds me of myself with my dad when I was little, always in a dress and helping him when he worked on cars. I was a Tomboy for sure. The bridge looks fantastic. Lots of laughs along the way. You should be so, so proud. Huge undertaking and look how great it is. Stay safe and thanks for sharing
Nice job on the bridge and again, thanks for the smiles. Wish I lived closer so I could help on the 2 people jobs. Enjoy your week off, well deserved
It's cool that you and your buddy are working together
Hi Mike. When cutting your aviation cable you should use your angel grinder and be sure to wear safety equipment and use a 1/8 cutting blade. Cut nice and smooth just be careful. Nice bridge by the way 😁
Thank you sir!
When i go out to get lumber cuts i just take my loader out, make a couple root cut passes with the bucket, push the tree over then cut the log. I know you have access to an excavator so mark up all the trees you want to get down and take a day with the ex so stumps wont be an issue anytime later too.
Kind of digging those wavy board sides
Excavator cost me money.
@@CaptainKleeman everything costs money lol, i just cant stand stumps because when the weeds grow up i will forget they are there and drive something in there that will find them then end up costing more to repair it than taking them out from the start😂. My memory aint what it used to be when i get in a hurry
There so true full at that age. You are blessed with a beautiful family. Enjoy watching your videos.
Lucky man indeed!
The whole "chain" of events that took place at the back of that side by side....... hit me deep down in my soul....
😂😂
"Kleeman's Arch" turned out GREAT. You did a fine job.
Hey thanks!
That is super overbuilt... So yeah it's perfect! Love the build and ur channel. Enjoy your week off.
That bridge looks awesome. Enjoy your vacation. Kind regards Christiaan
Thanks for watching!
Assume, I didn't see any deflection when you drove on the bridge. Your cables are profiled like a 60' span for a concrete parking garage, low in the center high on the ends.
I love your helper, you said it just right, Building memories. !
Awesome job 👏🏻 bridge didn’t move a bit with the side by side on it. Enjoy your vacation. 👍🏻🇺🇸
The trail to the bridge will compliment the whole beautiful project
on the cables; remember , never saddle a dead horse, the dead end of your cable has the u bolt , the live end has the saddle of the clamp. this way the u bolt pulls into the dead end holding it tighter and the saddle distributes the pressure over a wider area thus less bending and damage to the live (load carrying) cable. just for information
Keep on doing the thing you enjoy,God Bless you and yours.
Great video Mike, Looks great. Your sweet little girl, "Are you OK " How cute is that. Really enjoy your videos. Thank you for sharing.
😂😂 she’s knows I’m clumsy
Ya done good son! Wouldn't be a Kleeman video without a mishap and you certainly delivered with saw. Enjoy the well deserved vacay and we'll all be here when you get your butt back to work. Seems to me that the rugrat is bucking to take over your gig brother. Better keep an eye on that one! Love home brother and take care!
great to see u tub freinds come buy to help out. glad to come along to thanks captain. cheers guys.
Mike, you might consider picking up a oxy acetlyn torch SP. They are very usefull for bending steel, cuting cable, freeing rusted parts etc. with the equip you have you need one or will. Instead of fighting to remove those old spring pins you can just cut the leaves in 2 minutes and remove those springs.
Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The bridge didn't move at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lol daddies little sweetheart
Helping
Love it 😊
Great job. I love how your little helper was asking questions and also asking if you were OK.
Think that’s a Sweetgum tree. And you’re doing fine. Just gotta keep sawing!
Love the bridge awesome job. Great idea of burning the wood & roof tar as a preservative. I to am not an engineer but I have stayed at a holiday Inn express & watched plenty of engineering catastrophes on the science Channel to offer these suggestions, add a second board to the inside of ur wheel runners & also another block under the cable to give it a downward v that way it when tightened it bows up like a low boy trailer does then will flatten with more weight. I'm sure the tractor weighs more then side by side. As Schultz would say I know nothing 🤣🤣🤣 keep up Great work love the Channel
All I can say is that a great time on vacation make memories when you can
LOL the title, will it hold, the book of Revelation will complete and that bridge will still be standing the way you built it, love the vids.
That turned out awesome. Enjoy the vacation.
Thank you sir!
Always fun seeing some collaborations. Have fun on your break.
Thank you sir!
The roman legion called, They would like you to build all their bridges from now on.
Looks fantastic man.
My unsolicited 2 cents on the Thompson's water seal: Skip it for something else.
Thompson products are basically a solvent and wax, it can get slicker then snot and won't really offer any substantial protection for more then an extremely short period of time especially on any horizontal surface.
Valspar makes some good clear sealers that can be sprayed on
The Kleeman Golden Gate Bridge. Very nice job.
Looking good Cap that would make a beautiful covered bridge 👊👍
Thanks Tim!
I love that your daughter was with you. Please, please, please teach them to use the tools as and when they are old enough to understand how & safety. I so enjoy your videos. Bridge is looking good.
Absolutely agree and thanks for watching!
Mike, when U pull logs get a bucket full of dirt it will help keep your front wheels on the ground I have a 855, also truck tire chains on rear will help a lot, have fun!!
looks like it turned out great. have a nice vacation!
Hope you guys have a great vacation. Love you patience with thr little ones. Love your channel.
Your little pirate is adorable 😍
Agree!
The chainsaw incident is my life in a nutshell. Whatever can go wrong will go wrong and usually when I have an audience, LOL. So many dinosaurs died to waterproof that bridge. I saw no deflection as you backed off the bridge. Looks solid. I can not believe the patience of your little one. She also was quite helpful. It's clear she enjoys your company and is interested in what you are doing. Enjoy it while you can because the teen years are a-coming, muhahahaha!🤣 Enjoy your vacation. I loved Gatlinburg/Sevierville area when I still traveled.
Love seeing John on your channel. I've been following him since the beginning. It's almost like Spok showing up on the bridge of the New Generation. 😂 In a perfect world he would have shown up with the Fecon on the ASV. Great help from all.
Man, I love your projects and videos. I have the same "Lower your expectations of productivity" moments as well as "She's been more patient than I have if I'm being honest" times. She will definitely always remember when she and Daddy built a bridge. My 19yr old recalls adventures we had when she was that age with fondness and smiles. You're doing the right thing giving them a chance to be a part of it. I'm now getting a second chance for the same thing with my 4 yr old. Yep... God has a sense of humor. 21, 19 and 4. lol
Be well and I will look forward to more videos with you and the kiddos.
I’m almost 65 years old. And I’m still learning. It’s great to have input from others and friends that are willing to help. Enjoy watching your videos. I know the help is much appreciated!!
Love the “always learning” attitude. Thanks for watching!
All that hard work paid off! Looks good, great job!👍
Thank you!
I admire your work! Definitely looks cooler than a pipe.
Thanks!
A hundred years from now that bridge will still be strong as an ever nice job!!
This bridge is awesome. You should be proud of it. The one downside of YT is the negative comments. Keep up the good work.
Enjoy your week off
Great Job Captain. Love that your daughter shows an interest in the work you are doing.
She will be a big help in the future.
Absolutely!
Good to see family totally engrossed in your project, she will remember these days for the rest of her life, as you will also. ❤️. I’m sure I’ve seen that the steel cable needs to double back on itself where it’s clamped to prevent it becoming loose. Many thanks for you brilliant videos Mike, now go and enjoy your holiday, sorry, vacation.
Great episode, as always. Plus you made a great advertisement for Stihl chainsaws ;-). Enjoy your vacation!
😂😂 maybe they will send a 500i to try out???
That’s a solid bridge! Could drive your pickup across it. Nice work! 👍
Thanks John!
Love the bridge It looks strong enough to herd elephants across Thanks for sharing 👍
Now that would be a sight to see! 😂
I love that bridge you did a awesome job, and the girls helped also ,Fun stuff don’t ever stop
Thanks for watching!
Food for thought.... next bridge should be wider 'cause that hardly costs anything other than the deck boards need to be longer. With the rest of the bridge as sturdy as it is the "travel planks" could be a pair of 2x8 side by side. You gain width and don't have to worry about getting a tire stuck off the side. Use J-bolts in the concrete at the ends (put in while wet) instead of drilling for wedge anchors. Much less work and way cheaper. Instead of making U-bolts just drill straight through and use those large plates for top and bottom. Also no worries about rust from burning off the galvanizing.
Let me know how your bridge turns out! Love seeing other people’s projects.
@@CaptainKleeman ... done wood projects and concrete projects, but never a bridge, although some of my fabrication might be on a similar scale for holding weight. If I was a bit younger and a bit closer I probably would have been there lending a hand.
Great video, who cares how it’s engineered as long as it works and your happy.
Thank you Mike. I always look forward to your videos; your warm greetings, the kindness and love you show your family, your sense of "I can and will figure it out and succeed at it as well!!" and the high quality of the videos you put out. God Bless, stay safe, enjoy your vacation, keep making those wonderful memories and keep up the great work. John here, from the back-roads of Northeastern Tennessee.
Love the ending about learning and spending time with your kids. Well done, pretty awesome bridge!
That turned out awesome Captain 👍!!! Enjoy that vacation . You deserve it!!!!
Off you go and enjoy your vacation - it is well deserved!!! Follow John and his guys too. First class team of workers who all seem to enjoy their various contracts and the company of each other - a bit like the Dirt Perfect bunch who seem to enjoy each others company too despite the various "caustic" comments !! lol
When you're hauling the lumber there is a tip that you can do to let the truck the front stay down by carrying a load of sand in the bucket
That is some good quality entertainment! Well done Mike! The saw debacle was just funny....its exactly what would have happened to me. You just have to laugh.
I like the idea of the wrap around up to the top if you are walking it would make the walk not as hard. I would suggest tightening the cables with more then just your hands. I like how its turning out.
Well done! Nice and strong, that bridge isn't going anywhere!
This bridge looks great! I think you are right about the Thompson seal. Have good days!
It's a rare opportunity that I get a glimpse of the camaraderie of men working together. I really enjoyed that in this video. Thanks guys! I know more about burning bridges than building them but that one looks well engineered. It will most likely be there for generations. Enjoy your vacation and we'll see you when you return.
The bridge is coming out great. I didn't see any flex when you drove the ATV on it. Enjoy your vacation buddy. I hope you any your family have a safe fun time. God bless
Thank you sir! Hope you have a great week!
