You really nailed this aesthetic! With regards to the mirror, I always think those pieces that look like they are from an older era, they actually lend authenticity to the era you are trying to replicate - because it’s really only in the 21st century that people seem to want to do a clean sweep of their homes when redecorating. My British great-grandparents and grandparents favored a very pronounced streamline moderne aesthetic in their kitchen, but it was nuanced with older, treasured bits. Overlapping eras make your aesthetic look a genuinely historic home, as opposed to a stage set.
I'm so glad you said that because I thought the same thing! It was hard to find images to decorate off of because they weren't just 1920s, they were mixed with so many other items from other decades
For anyone wanting to paint or wall paper their refrigerator, most fridge doors are designed to come off with just a screwdriver. This makes it much easier to carry to your work area and/or work more ergonomically. You can also switch the direction in which the doors open to make it more convenient for your space. Fancier fridges might not have this option but the ubiquitous white rental fridge usually does!
If there's one thing I've learned from this, it's that I'd rather have a cute small space instead of a boring large one! Keep up the good work, you're very inspiring.
I love art deco and I think your area looks amazing. I love the green paint color and the gold highlights really bring it together. Utilizing some of what you already owned is key to people learning how to blend new with old. To recycle a previously owned item, into a new atmosphere, helps encourage others to do the same. Less waste and a great way to save money.
Believe it or not, we decorated this way in the 80's. I loved Art Deco style and when it started going out in the 90's, people were left with all this gold hardware on doors and cabinets and gem tones painted on their walls. There were a lot of curves and soft lines in the furniture. But alas times changed and so did decorating tastes. Now here it comes back again! Embrace your favorite style and don't worry about the trends...That's the lesson I've learned now that I'm a lot older. (I still love Art Deco and the color "teal". ;-)
I liked it, too, but Parisian Art Deco is my favorite interior style, so no surprise there. It just needed to be ironed/steamed to get the wrinkles out, and it would've hung more appropriately over the window.
Wow! What an eye! You did an amzing job of glamorizing the kitchen but keeping functionality. I want to tell you that contrast not the darkness of your colors makes a room feel small. You keep working it!
Great job and great choices! Horizontal wall = horozontal art & conversely verticle wall= vertical art. Many would not have furnished their entire rooms in one era.
A vintage milk glass schoolhouse pendant in a Deco shape would look phenomenal in there. I'd paint the piece on the opposite wall (the candleholder) gold. I actually liked the gold velvet curtain. You said it looked too circus-y but I always associate the 20s.and 30s with circuses (think "Water For Elephants" aesthetic.)
Wow, your kitchen renovation journey is truly inspiring! I love how you're transforming the heart of your home into a beautiful and functional space. Your attention to detail and creative ideas are incredible. Keep up the fantastic work!"
just cruising by looking at decor vids & when i saw the green paint & ur plans, i thought eek! dark creepy gothic. BUT it looks amazing! its not dark & gloomy at all. its warm, interesting, bright & welcoming. & very 1920s!
thank you!!! 🥰 I've really fallen in love with the green! It's taking all my willpower to not paint my bathroom the same color 😅 I also love that you think it looks 1920s 🫶🥰
Now it's warm and inviting, and seems cozy. You could put two small lights that shine up in the corners if you want more light. Maybe you could hang the tasseled curtain across the doorway to the bedroom or bath.
This all looks just fabulous!!! Whenever I work on a small space...I like to think, "Jewlbox". Stunning, perfect, pretty, one-of-a-kind. I think you accomplished that! ❤
Your video popped up on my feed and well, I'm all about a good makeover! Just wanted to say you did an amazing job, the stencils really brought the walls together and that dark green is perfect! small spaces are hard to get right and you did a really great job, you should be proud :)
Thank you for saying that 🥹 I was unsure it looked good when I finished because I was working on it for so long. Appreciate the positive feedback 🫶🫶🫶🤍🤍🤍
Love your choices! Love that you painted everything instead of buying wallpaper or cutting wood for the trim. Gorgeous fridge! I’m a huge fan of this art deco era too, also the shift between Nouveau and Deco which could be more 20s than 30s… or between WWI and WWII.
Lanche! This is amazing! I've always wanted to see what you could do without a bunch of rental restrictions and you outdid yourself! Also fun seeing you reuse pieces from previous makeovers, like the mirror from the DA living room.
I love how that sharpie wall turned out! I've been thinking of doing similar in our master bedroom. I've decorated it in Art Deco and some Art Nouveau. Lots of authentic pieces and art work really bring out the vibe. Beautiful job you've done!! 🎉👏🏽👏🏽
You could get theater light gels in stained glass colors and accent certain key elements in your tea light holder to give the illusion of stained glass.
Beautiful makeover. I’m wondering though, if a clear acrylic (thin) strip of.molding at the top of your painted wall, where the green pain meets the white ceiling would give the ceiling a more tailored look? I know that the eye rarely goes up that far, but sometimes it does, and a black or gold molding might give it a “boxed” look. We inherited ceiling molding in our very small space, and I’m now the biggest fan of putting molding in that space rather than leaving it blank. But, everything else is great!
We did the same thing with Green paint in our living room. As soon as we finished with an Olive Green, we hated it and immediately ran out to get a darker shade. Repainted in S-W Sherwood Forest Green and I’ve never been happier with a paint color.
I am obsessed! It turned out awesome! The gold design on the back wall is such a great idea. If I were you, I would spray paint the tea-light holder gold and then paint the wall that it is hanging on the same dark emerald color that you have on the fridge. I’d also spray paint the cabinet pulls and door hinges gold. Minor details, but you might like how it looks. Anyway, I love how it looks❤❤❤
It looks great! A couple small tips, try using real gold foil paint for your frames instead of spray paint, it looks so much more vibrant & for the art look into Louis Icart prints, his art is the epitome of Art Deco period.
This is lovely. I had the idea to change my kitchen for a while to Art Deco. So this wa a good inspiration. One thing I would do is varnish the fridge. It could do with a little shine.
if you wanted to add more light maybe find one of those flower petal lamps that you could put in the darker corner or a small one for the table. I love that dark green and I think the whole thing turned out really nice.
Unlike the wealthy, normal folk can’t usually afford to do a clean sweep, so there would usually have been items from previous eras. I really love so much about your design choices. I’m working on an Art Deco bedroom and was planning to do a similar idea behind the bed with a stencil, but at the top of the wall. I may reconsider doing the full wall after seeing how you did yours. I may try doing the use of cardboard, instead of the rather expensive stencil. I’m really impressed with how you changed the pattern on the sides. I’m going to rethink the whole wall now. I found your video, since TH-cam suggested it and “Art Deco” caught my eye. I’m going to subscribe.
An art deco bathroom would be so cute!!! I hope it turns out amazing. The diy wall is so affordable, I’m going to try and do it in more rooms too! It’s just too easy. I hope you give it a go! Goodluck with your makeover 🥰🥰
Yeah so I am judging and I say youve created a win. I can see myself chilling in that space with tea or coffee (or a nice brandy) and just whiling away a late afternoon chatting. It looks comfortable and clean and I like. GG

The very best one thing you did, besides the entire composition? The pattern YOU conceived and drew on the wall -- chef's kiss to your talent. Only so you know: The ceiling light fixture is called a Sputnik, it's from the 60's, and a. Cross-pollinating decade-to-decade is something the best designers do all the time, and, b. It's form goes beautifully w the 1920's look. Also: I'm on less firm ground here, but: Generally, L-brackets are 180° and they're attached to the shelf from the bottom w screws short enough not to penetrate the shelf, but long enough to get a good grip.
you are so right, I think that would really complete it. What are your thoughts on the ceiling being green but the other side of the kitchen being white? would that still look okay?
@@justlanchen I think all the walls and ceiling and trim should be the same shade of green. It will give it a really mood vibe.
