I unfortunately had to remove this last year due to the writers strike, so I’m very happy to share this with you officially. This makeover cost me around $200 and consist of loads of DIYs to bring it to life. Hope you enjoy!
FUN FACT:
The tiles in the Atrium (and throughout the Ministry of Magic) were made out of thick cardboard, as actual ceramic tiles would have been very expensive to produce. Each "tile" underwent a lengthy painting process to give them the look of real ceramic tile. Over 30,000 individually placed tiles were used.

Very interesting trivia. May I ask why you were forced to remove the video due to writers strike? I’m not familiar with neither the strike nor the consequences of it :)
I am 80 y/o and have never seen a Harry Potter movie or the room that are referring to, however, I am a fan of dark academia decor and I have to say you absolutely nailed it with this room. YOu added all the charm and aesthetic required to give the vibe you were going for. You certainly should start in the set design and decorating business, you have so much imagination and knowledge of how to achieve that certain look you are going for. Again I love it. I have been an interior decorator for 50 years and always admire the ability in those people who can achieve an illusion to the point of being realistic. Good on ya girly !!!
I recommend that you throw yourself into Potterworld!, Read the books, or listen to the audio books. Then watch the movies. You will love them all!! Then come back and comment what House you belong to!! 🥰

If I may share - I saw a post on fb of someone's bookcase, and they secretly slipped a chocolate candy bar [Lindt in this case] between some book spines - which I think is a great hiding place and would be handy in case of dementors.

Amazon has moving wick candles. They come in tapers & pillares. I use them all over my home; they are Mezmerizing! They'd be perfect for your sconces. Thanks for all your great ideas. 👏

Great job! Love your artwork you showed, too. BTW, there is a wallpaper that looks like castle walls that probably would have been cheaper & easier for you. I knew of a crystal/metaphysical shop that had it on all of their walls, and it looked great. I was thinking of making a Gryffindor themed living room, myself, but have not done it.

OMG, I am so happy to have found this! We have a guest house on our property that I am turning into the Gryffindor common room and I totally agree with you on the walls! I searched high and low for the perfect stone backdrop- finally found one on Amazon (that was not cheap) and it fades very quickly even with no direct sunlight. VERY frustrating, as the walls are the most important visual aspect of the room. I may have to start my search over, as I am a perfectionist. Thank you so much for the inspiration!

I second your point about not making a fan room. My own room is inspired by the Slytherin Common Room, but is very much along the lines of what a student of the school might have, rather than what a fan of the show might have (which most room makeovers appear to be).

May I suggest gold rub n buff? It's a gold wax you can use on basically any surface, and it picks up texture REALLY well. Prefect for frames and metal objects!

Bloody hell! the room turned out sick!! I love that you have narcissas hair but are a gryffindor. My hair used to be white for a long time but I dyed it back to my natural red and look like a gryffindor girly now even though I’m a slytherin. I’d love to do the same thing with slytherin house colors! Thanks for the inspiration

Thank you so much for putting this back up! I am planning to redo my bedroom as a Gryffindor common room this year and am getting so many ideas from this on what to start looking for and thrifting. I have two windows to try and work around but maybe I can find some photos of the tour in London to see what they did as I doubt my parents would let me paint the wood frames black but maybe a darker stain could be agreed upon. I love that little suitcase side table that is so freaking cute! Would love to know where you got it from!
Got any ideas on how to upgrade a bedroom door and a sliding piano hinged closet doors? I know a lot of people paint the marauders map on their closet doors and I’ve debated it but I think I wanna keep them wood you know? I really wanna keep the aesthetic of the Gryffindor common room and not make it look like a little kids bedroom make over.

Ah! So nice to see video from the studio tour! I took the tour at the Leavesden studio before smart phones were a huge presence so I don’t have any photos of it. It’s nice to see it again!

I have a huge poster/wallpaper art which is the full book of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone printed on it. It's in iny print, but the full book. Have had it for years, and just can't bring myself to use it!! You've done a fab job. Enjoy the space.

those tapestry finds are awesome, great idea, maybe next time go with a stencil for the brick wall or tape it off in a brick pattern, how fun to come home to your HP common room.
It looks absolutely amazing! So so cool! As for your wall it looks great! If you’re looking for a easier way to make the “stone" wall, I saw a woman on you tube tape off the grout lines and go over it with with joint compound to create a stone/brick effect. Then she pulls the tape off and it gives it a 3d stone look. Then you can paint them however you need to after it’s dry.

I bought floating candlesticks that you hang with fishing line and light up with a wand on Amazon. It makes the space look truly whimsical

Lanchen, beautiful reveal, but as looking at the stone wall, the grout is too white, like bathroom white, just smudge some light gray in and out of the lines some,for a more ancient look, and the sconces on each side put a little higher than the picture so that the lights don’t compete with your picture,and it may make your room have a taller illusion.Love the divider very much, you’ll need a hint brighter desk light to show off your items better. Enjoyed the journey of your fantastic finds too. As loving art I made a faux fireplace and it’s close to completed.👍👜🌂👢🧳🎩💖

@@justlanchen My oops❣️A big sheet of paper, and then use two sided tape running it along for each row then smacking the squares on, and when done using the wall sheet with the paper adhered squares just roll it up till next use, if some squares tend to curl when unrolling it out just add more two sided tape behind those spots 💖✅👍❣️🎩👢

wow, this Looks amazing, you could have done the Painting by adding a Green sheet in the frame and then in Post adding a video of someone reading a book.. but this does look good!!

If you ever need to redo the stone wall look up Halloween diy stone wall props most people use foam insulation boards to create realistic walls

Great work! I'm just amazed at how cheap things are in the US compared to Europe. Those items, even thrifted, would have cranked the price to over 500 euro.
That is crazy!!! I honestly think it’s just a Utah thing. I moved back to LA and thrifting here has been awful!!! Items that are broken and unusable are listed for $$$ and I just don’t understand it 😭
@@justlanchen Yes, looks like in some areas thrifting is trendy and people take advantage, making things quite expensive.
A lot of YT creators use Rub and Buff on metal items to add realistic touches. They mix more than one as well.
