    Dude this is genius and absolute GOLD! I’ve been stuck at exactly what you describe (~25m) with consistent eq problems. Now that you explained it, vacuum and not being able to overcome that with an RP is 100% what I experience. Loud, gulping, straining noises and I’m just stuck! Everything you described is exactly what I was or was not doing. Moving my tongue to the H position literally changed everything , obviously in combo with the RP. Hoping to go to the next level and hit 40m soon. Thanks again….awesome tutorial and fantastic explanation!!!

    Hello Adam. I'm an intermediate level(Aida3) freediver from South Korea.
    I'm really big fan of you. Also I'm really impressed with your teaching bout freediving skills.
    As I told u I'm an intermidiate level, I'm really interested about frenzel skills.
    Last week I met and was taught about frenzel and mouth fill skills by Daniel Koval, champion of northern America.
    He said he tries to frenzel as deep as he can.(maybe he do frenzel about 50~60m) I was surprised how deep he can do frenzel.
    Anyway, after then I tried to figure out how can I do the frenzel equalization efficiently and technically. Finally I found ur video and it was so helpful for me.
    I really wanna remeber and do it skillfully.
    And also share with my korean freediver friends.
    I wonder if I can translate this video and repost on my instagram.(Of course I will reveal the source of ur video). Please reply if u see my comment.
    Thank you!

    Thank you for the video, it's really helpful!
    I'm a bit confused about two aspects though:
    1) As we go deeper, need to equalize becomes less frequent (e.g. ears start hurting after a meter or two initially, but after some depth it's 5+ meters). So do you mean that at depth we shouldn't wait for pressure build-up inside ears, and equalize more often than that to prevent vacuum from forming?
    2) You mentioned doing RP in preparation for the next Frenzel, so is it a block of 'RP-Frenzel-RP' every time?

  • @FreediveRN
    @FreediveRN 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    such an interesting video. i'm able to dive to around 45 meters with frenzel. but to go deeper i use mouthfill, even though i like frenzel more. what i was always told by instructors is, that frenzelling at that depth may be a risk of lung squeezing because you suck up air from the compressed lung. but now i'm just confused. but i'll try doing it the next time i go diving. it's like loading the mouthfill every time but just in tiny bits to use it to frenzel.

    • @AdamFreediver
      @AdamFreediver  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      pretty much :) give it a go and let me know how it goes! But consider for PB to be 45m again if you're going to deep frenzel. That's your Frenzel PB ;)

    You mentioned that when your diving down that the pressure in your mask decreases and sucks onto your face trying to draw air into it through the nasal cavity? I undestood it that the pressure in your mask increases due to the greater surrounding pressure of the water as you go deeper. As you ascend there would be a vacuum in the mask as surrounding pressure decreases. Excellent videos by the way!

    About training.

    How do you define the limit between : be gentle and struggling?

    Hello Adam, im a fan of you since day 1 I started my freediving journey, I just want to thank with regards of this video as I am confused between mouthfill and reverse pack. I also have this question. In short the reverse pack is also the process to mouthfill. While reverse pack a small amount of air from lungs. For mouthfill a larger amouth of air from lungs via using reverse pack.
    Thank you Adam.

    Hello Adam, this might not have a relation to this particular video, but, i have a question. After seeing a lot of your videos, i noticed that you put on different weights to each of your dive; and sometimes with no weight belt at all? my question is, how do you decide how many weights you wanna put on, is it depending on the depth that you will be diving or something else? thankyou, you are my inspiration and my free time always gets productive since i found your channel!

  • @_jake_hill_
    @_jake_hill_ 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I watched this when it was new, and I'm revisiting it to fix some bad habits. I still haven't found any better freediving tutorials than the ones you make. It seems to me that whenever I try to H-frenzel with my mouth closed, my tongue doesn't fit, so it just results in a K-frenzel. I also don't like the term H-lock because it sounds the same as HLOC (Hypoxic Loss of Conciousness).

  • @keepcal
    @keepcal 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I was doing this method by default, the only problem is you need to close the velum before reverse packing, otherwise it creates a depression not only form the lunges to get air, but also from everything above soft palate (sinus, middle ear, mask if u don't pinch ur nose, ...) and this can be tricky. I feel like mouthfill will be "safer" and "easier" to perform.

  • @CrazyYakNTX
    @CrazyYakNTX 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Watched this video last night and achieved a PB. The vacuum created by squeezed mask was prohibiting me from equalizing. On the 35m PB dive, I did find it difficult to reverse pack the small amount of air past 30m. Resting a day and then getting back to FRC training dives to deploy these techniques further.

    thanks, such great videos adam!
    does anyone have experiences with air leaving through the eye while equalizing? due to that its not possible to equalize the ears or sinuses. could it be "repaired" or is there any training to avoid this to happen? because my dive buddy has those problems from time to time, but not allways. thanks:)

    • @AdamFreediver
      @AdamFreediver  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is reasonably common, some people have to close one eye or both eyes in order to equalise! the tear ducts connect to the nasal cavity

    This is not directly related to this video, but I got lung squeeze at about 15m deep !! I was diving, just after my Instructor Course ( I'm a new freeedive instructor and very excited about it ), and kicked off of a rock into a streamline position (with arms in front). I guess the stretch was to much. My Instructor was there and said it was a one in a thousand chance. At the time, my dynamics in the pool were just under 100m so going 20m into this large cavern was nothing I was worried about. I didn't take it into account, the depth. Anyway this was back in June so all is good now. I was just wondering if you had any input on my experience?
    I would love to hear any info or thoughts that you have about this! You are awesome!

      fyi I feel my experience is so valuable to me as an instructor. In a funny kinda way, I love it! HAHA!

    • @AdamFreediver
      @AdamFreediver  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely Jesse as much as I wouldn't wish anyone to get a lung squeeze there is a lot to be learnt from the experience. I have seen several cases of squeezes at similar depths. Sometimes from equalisation stress, sometimes from movement, sometimes because a diver is fatigued. We just have to manage the situation as best we can :)
      Wishing you well!

      the mouthfill I'm taking about is a method for equalising deeper than the residual volume :) usually deeper than 40m

      @@AdamFreediver Ah ok. I got kind of confused. But thanks for another very helpful video. My record is 38m but I didn't do anything special for equalising. Maybe I did a H frenzel without knowing it.

    Is this a reason you can avoid lung over expansion with packing?

    • @AdamFreediver
      @AdamFreediver  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This doesn't have anything to do with lung over expansion actually :)

    • @andyapneatic5452

      Adam Freediver I was told that lung packing can cause long over expansion, so I thought that doing this or mouthfill may lower the chances of it

    Hey adam,
    I got a question for you. Why cant i equlize at one point of the day.why do i have a limit. Why cant i equlize as i dive deeper. Every time i dive deeper my equlizing gets worse

    • @AdamFreediver
      @AdamFreediver  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's normal to find it harder to equalise deeper. It just means you need to improve your equalisation skills. During your diving you're most likely not equalising enough so towards the end of the day your ears get sore and hurt and they then they become harder to equalise

    Can a deep dive be achieved using reverse-pack without doing mouthfill ?

    So basically if I go to 45m without Mouthfill it means I'm doing reverse packing without being aware of it ? Ok , will be interesting to know if I can go deeper only using frenzel ...

    Sorry Adam, you're giving the opportunity to see the "manual" you're creating only to patreons... i believe it would be nice if you made it totally public. Would be a very gentle and smart move, you're offering your expertise for free aren't you?
    Anyway thank you very much! Very useful tutorial, i needed to hear this one because i sometimes, actually often, do that sound while equalizing with frenzel.

    Awesome explanation! I’m currently struggling with deep Frenzel >30m. In retrospect I’m allowing a vacuum to build up within the mask and when reverse packing I’m pulling too much air from the lungs. From what I’ve read the middle ear contains ~2ml of volume, so to Adam’s point of equalize using H-lock past 25m takes a minute amount of air.
