Catherine, I am deeply grateful that you decided to keep those segments in and share your struggles with us. For me, as a brand new small business owner, it puts things into perspective. On the one hand, I go at a pretty slow pace and take lots of breaks in my work day to take care of myself. I try to actively work on keeping the mindset that that‘s my way because it feels more healthy. But there‘s also times when things get crazy (for example market prep weeks), which is totally okay, as long as I plan to get some Rest afterwards. Nevertheless, it hasn‘t been easy for me to take care of myself in the ways I would like to do (that isn‘t solely a self-employment issue for me, it has always been there, it‘s actually getting a little better now that I get to take breaks when I need them and am able to work on my own schedule.. and now that I finally know I have ADHD and that my achievable, healthy goals look different than I thought they should look like 😅). I wouldn‘t‘ve said I‘m a workaholic because I always got pretty burnt out working jobs for others after a time. But now that I‘m working for myself and doing art I don‘t have a problem working on weekends and such, because it‘s just so much fun. And even though I take breaks throughout the day and don‘t usually work 8 hrs every day, work has kind of taken up every day of my life and sometimes it‘s hard to take a full day or more off without doing *anything* work-related. Soooo, maybe I‘m like, half a workaholic or so 😂 To bring my rambling to and end: I haven‘t got it all figured out, and honestly, it helps me to not feel bad about that because obviously, I‘m not alone in this. It‘s very comforting to know that it’s not only me, but even an established business owner like you doesn‘t always have the balance figured out. So thank you for reflecting and sharing 🧡 I hope that through sharing, you were also able to let go of some of the pressure you put on yourself. Thank you for being real and being such an inspiration!
Struggling here too mentally as i start my small business. I'm so glad you didn't cut this section out. Remember you are not alone. I'm working on small micro changes as big changes can feel overwhelming when I'm already feeling out of balance. Thank you for being open with us ❤
I don't imagine many people who regularly watch your vlogs would imagine you have loads of free time, it's clear you're working more than full-time hours and putting a lot of effort into everything you do. Well done on keeping the real stuff in about your mental and physical health too. You're right, many people think there's so much worse going on that they shouldn't "complain" about what they're dealing with. I don't see it as complaining, I see it as an accurate representation of someone's life, whether you're a business owner or you don't need or want to work - EVERYONE struggles and more people would do well being honest about it. Congratulations on the grewat shop launch too. Also, never heard "cuteness aggression", that describes the feeling so well!
This!!! Just because someone else might have it „worse“ does not mean that everyone else‘s struggles and feelings are not valid. And so it‘s very important to talk about it and share it. I think the saying „sharing is caring“ applies in this field, too, as sharing our struggles and vulnerabilities acknowledges them and helps us better take care of ourselves (and also, maybe getting other‘s help additionally as well as supporting others when they share their struggles with us, too). ❤
You’re honestly so inspiring and I’m constantly telling my boyfriend I don’t know how you edit and upload so often on both channels (I watch both!!) AND launch products and keep a whole business afloat. You need to take time for yourself too, it’s completely okay to take a break - something I also need to remind myself of 💜 it’s hard when you’re so passionate about something
Marshie is the best. I started a business 3 times. Thinking I knew what it took. I was wrong all those times. I don't have enough spoons. So I really respect this video. You are so incredibley hard working and it shows in your business and your personality. Like you said we all love you even if you mis a deadline or you need an extra break. You are worth the wait. Marshie is the best! As a small business owner myself, I needed to hear this!! I’m starting at zero and my soft launch has had no orders. So being reminded that I need to be kinder to myself in these times is wonderful. I’ve never heard any other small business bring attention to this and it should be talked about more. I often find myself comparing my small business to ones that are already well established and forgetting that I’m in a different league. Seeing people with tons of products and successful shop launches makes you feel down if you post stuff and have no one even visit or leave you feedback.
I too have my own business, I don’t sell anything either, only what I take to craft fares, and what people order through FB. I closed my shopify shop down. I use Etsy and still don’t sell on there. I crochet most of the day, even at night watching telly. I love watching Katnipp as she is really inspiring and I learn a great deal. X
Hi, I just wanted to say thank you. I came across you a couple of years back and you inspired me to start my own online shop but I'm such a procrastinator that I was just stressing myself out so much, always thinking I need to work on starting the shop but other things would pop up, so a couple of weeks back I chose not to start a shop and I feel so much less stressed, I'm just going to focus on creating things for me and possibly documenting it on TH-cam instead. So thank you again for keeping honest and showing every side of running a business. And Marshie is da best 😁

Marshie is the best! This was extremely needed and so relatable!! I've been watching for about 5 years or so now, and I still tell everyone that you were one of my inspirations to start my own lil business. I've run up to a wall a few times now where my health was just the lowest on my list of priorities. The more my business picked up, the worse I was on myself mentally and physically. Now I'm a few years in and faced with the decision of whether or not to go full time and quit my day job. However, I am in such poor health that my output on my business and my job are really not as great as I would like. So I have a lot of doubts on making that big decision. Coming to this point has really taught me that "Health comes first" is more than just a thing people say to sound good. Connecting the dots of what we've seen on your journey to what you've shared today was just a breath of fresh air because I'm sitting here thinking "Life is hard for all of us, I hope she's giving herself plenty of grace." But I haven't even been doing that for myself. It's absolutely easier to share the good parts because you don't want to come off as ungrateful, negative or whining, but it doesn't sound like that at all! You're just sharing your human experience even while doing a thing you love. You really made me realize it's so important to share when you're struggling, and I need to do that with my own lil community. Marshie is the best Its so hard when someone has trouble balancing life with work or friend/partners/family, sometimes you need to touch bottom (hope it didnt was like that) to realice that you need to take full control over your life/health and not the other way around, theres times when you feel like if youre not doing all of that youre a failure or not given all that you can. i sometimes have to intervine when someone (mostly my mom) is not taking good care of themselves. Hope you can find that balance and keep doing the best you can.

Omg, thank you for sharing the reality if small business with us. You inspire me every day. I started my own business because of you, and it's really, really hard to keep going in the beginning. Sales drop out of nowhere and things don't go to plan. That makes me always feel like I failed somehow. It's the nature of business, especially in America during a presidential election. So many folks are unsure at times like this and sales slump soooo badly! Please take care of yourself. We are your loyal fan base and we need our Catherine to be okay! PS Marshie is the best

Oh my gosh, thank you so so much for sharing your struggles in this vlog and being so open about what it is really like to run a business. This was so relatable and also comforting to see. I just started out as a content creator and pursuing my dream of making art, and I'm doing that in any spare time I have whilst still doing my full time job. And honestly I feel you. I love making my art as soon as I get home from work and get so focused on getting things done and reaching my goals, everything else end up in the "later" space. I myself need to remind myself so just take a day once in a while and not think "work" just so I can take a mental break and refresh. I do believe though that it is also important to do this, cause I find that after a bit of a refresh I tend to be more clear headed and a lot more creative. You are amazing for going this strong and keeping this up 🐝 And also, Marshie is the best ♥

Marshie is the best! I see a lot of those habits creeping in to my life time to time. One mindset I have changed though is that I always used to get so down on myself for struggling and letting my health go. Now I focus more on the restart/refresh and focus less on what I did "wrong". I'm so thankful that there is a creative like you out there that does touch on ALL things, not just the highlight reel.

I loved this video Catherine and Marshie is the best! As a fellow small business owner I did the same really this year. I also appreciate the real side of not just sharing the good. I have been struggling hard with imposter syndrome from watching other small businesses because they all show mainly the upside of business and when I have been struggling I felt like maybe something was wrong with my business even though so far this year I have done really well for not even being a year old, but really appreciate you sharing a vulnerable non perfect side of running your own business. 💖

When I focus so hard on working I stop working out and I really struggle with a good balance between cooking, house work, business work and working out. It literally feels impossible to achieve all of them at the same time. 😭 I struggle wondering how others do it.

God, yes, this with how self care goes outta the window when ya focus on the biz - feel this mate as I'm entering xmas run working EVERY weekend till mid December and I'm already exhausted - taking time out to chill when THIS period is THE ONE ya need to work hardest at - just feel ya with it xxx
Health is always priority number one. I left a job after 23 years that often made me miserable (which I know isn’t the case with you) but burn out is a thing and you do need to prioritise slots where you totally zone out. Thanks for your honesty xxx

Marshie is the best! Sometimes we do just have to "suck it up buttercup " and put on our big girl britches and move on. But when we're doing that too much and too often, that's when it becomes a problem. So good for you for taking care of yourself. Self care is really about taking CARE of yourself. Making sure you're eating healthy most of the time, moving your body on a regular basis and taking care of your mental health. That's what real self care is. Thanks for keeping it real and honest!
Marshie is the best! I admire your positive and innocent outlook on life. You are such a breath of fresh air, Catherine … compared to so many who are so self-focussed. So when you do comment on struggles … we feel them right along with you. I just want to give you a big hug … tell you not to be so hard on yourself and suggest you might like to sit and plan a bit more. Always have a finish time that you are strict about. Plan your days realistically using hour by hour sections for your day (don’t underestimate times for each job) … and then leave 2 extra hours BLANK at the END of each day for catch up. DO NOT get sidetracked into doing anything apart from what is on your day’s to do list until everything has been ticked off. Then use those two hours for some fun stuff or some extra jobs you never get to! But … stick to that finish time. That’s my humble advice … and please take it or leave it! I absolutely love all your TH-cam videos … both accounts. I am addicted to seeing your business and life adventures. Take care … and be kind to yourself. I have seen a couple of friends completely go off track after gastric bypass and because they thought it was a miracle cure kept up all their old habits … alcohol and junk food … and ended up putting the weight back on. You have worked so hard … so it is perfectly reasonable for you to take time to look after yourself. Love you to bits! Hugs xxx

It's great that the Halloween launch was a success, and I still need to get my order made soon (I had wanted to on launch day but... sometimes life gets in the way of things... sigh!) All of that said, Bumblebutt, Puddin' the Doggie and Tuffy the Ducky are absolutely the three most adorbs from the World of Katnipp (I'm also bias on my choices a bit too, hah!) and I love that there are new wee creatures and characters coming out every so often, including the reindeer for Christmas! So excited for what will be available! It's super appreciated to get the perspective beyond just the happy-go-lucky, 'everything is fantastic and bliss and this/that/etc' because, as you've said in this video and previous ones, it isn't always this easy-looking, traveling-around, work whenever you desire to sort of career choice; it's very demanding of you and your creativity and mind. Seeing how you and other creative artists here on TH-cam and over on Instagram do things with their shops or streams or however they do their thing, it's a lot to balance and teach yourself! And to juggle all of that with family and chores and obligations outside the walls of your career/job, it's a load for sure! But I know that for yourself and other creatives out there, there is simply nothing else like it because of what it allows you to feel within your heart and soul. So much love to the Katnipp team! There are times when I sit down to watch a little TV and I'm feeling a bit guilty about not working but I have to take a break because my back is hurting. I also feel guilty about not spending time with my husband because I'm constantly in my office and some weekends, I'm at markets. I try to take Sundays off but sometimes, that's hard to do, especially when there's so much to do preparing for an art market coming up. But I do try to take it easy the next day after an art market, especially when the weather is hot. Love your channel and you're very inspiring! Thank you!

MARSHIE IS THE BEST 🎉 I hear you when you say you work too hard. I was told by doctor this week I may have just overworked myself but I'm going back to bring balance in. I started businesses whilst my teens were young and then had a baby no 3 and still taking care of my then mum who was ill at the time and now passed and yes I too delved right in to deal with grief. But everything comes with balance and step by step structure and strategies. You are doing incredibly well. Yes, slow down a wee but thank you for being open and honest which is why I love you all so much as you are so relatable 😊 and thank you for just doing what you love inspiring us all with your creativity and fun plus how to do's. But it's true that we get to do what we love put happy smiles on many many faces. Catherine, I am deeply grateful that you decided to keep those segments in and share your struggles with us. For me, as a brand new small business owner, it puts things into perspective. On the one hand, I go at a pretty slow pace and take lots of breaks in my work day to take care of myself. I try to actively work on keeping the mindset that that‘s my way because it feels more healthy. But there‘s also times when things get crazy (for example market prep weeks), which is totally okay, as long as I plan to get some Rest afterwards. Nevertheless, it hasn‘t been easy for me to take care of myself in the ways I would like to do (that isn‘t solely a self-employment issue for me, it has always been there, it‘s actually getting a little better now that I get to take breaks when I need them and am able to work on my own schedule.. and now that I finally know I have ADHD and that my achievable, healthy goals look different than I thought they should look like 😅).
I wouldn‘t‘ve said I‘m a workaholic because I always got pretty burnt out working jobs for others after a time. But now that I‘m working for myself and doing art I don‘t have a problem working on weekends and such, because it‘s just so much fun. And even though I take breaks throughout the day and don‘t usually work 8 hrs every day, work has kind of taken up every day of my life and sometimes it‘s hard to take a full day or more off without doing *anything* work-related. Soooo, maybe I‘m like, half a workaholic or so 😂
To bring my rambling to and end: I haven‘t got it all figured out, and honestly, it helps me to not feel bad about that because obviously, I‘m not alone in this. It‘s very comforting to know that it’s not only me, but even an established business owner like you doesn‘t always have the balance figured out. So thank you for reflecting and sharing 🧡 I hope that through sharing, you were also able to let go of some of the pressure you put on yourself. Thank you for being real and being such an inspiration!

I don't imagine many people who regularly watch your vlogs would imagine you have loads of free time, it's clear you're working more than full-time hours and putting a lot of effort into everything you do.
Well done on keeping the real stuff in about your mental and physical health too. You're right, many people think there's so much worse going on that they shouldn't "complain" about what they're dealing with. I don't see it as complaining, I see it as an accurate representation of someone's life, whether you're a business owner or you don't need or want to work - EVERYONE struggles and more people would do well being honest about it. Congratulations on the grewat shop launch too. Also, never heard "cuteness aggression", that describes the feeling so well!
This!!! Just because someone else might have it „worse“ does not mean that everyone else‘s struggles and feelings are not valid. And so it‘s very important to talk about it and share it. I think the saying „sharing is caring“ applies in this field, too, as sharing our struggles and vulnerabilities acknowledges them and helps us better take care of ourselves (and also, maybe getting other‘s help additionally as well as supporting others when they share their struggles with us, too). ❤
You’re honestly so inspiring and I’m constantly telling my boyfriend I don’t know how you edit and upload so often on both channels (I watch both!!) AND launch products and keep a whole business afloat. You need to take time for yourself too, it’s completely okay to take a break - something I also need to remind myself of 💜 it’s hard when you’re so passionate about something

I’m starting at zero and my soft launch has had no orders. So being reminded that I need to be kinder to myself in these times is wonderful.
I’ve never heard any other small business bring attention to this and it should be talked about more.
I often find myself comparing my small business to ones that are already well established and forgetting that I’m in a different league. Seeing people with tons of products and successful shop launches makes you feel down if you post stuff and have no one even visit or leave you feedback.
I too have my own business, I don’t sell anything either, only what I take to craft fares, and what people order through FB. I closed my shopify shop down. I use Etsy and still don’t sell on there. I crochet most of the day, even at night watching telly. I love watching Katnipp as she is really inspiring and I learn a great deal. X

I came across you a couple of years back and you inspired me to start my own online shop but I'm such a procrastinator that I was just stressing myself out so much, always thinking I need to work on starting the shop but other things would pop up, so a couple of weeks back I chose not to start a shop and I feel so much less stressed, I'm just going to focus on creating things for me and possibly documenting it on TH-cam instead. This was extremely needed and so relatable!! I've been watching for about 5 years or so now, and I still tell everyone that you were one of my inspirations to start my own lil business. I've run up to a wall a few times now where my health was just the lowest on my list of priorities. The more my business picked up, the worse I was on myself mentally and physically. Now I'm a few years in and faced with the decision of whether or not to go full time and quit my day job. However, I am in such poor health that my output on my business and my job are really not as great as I would like. So I have a lot of doubts on making that big decision. Coming to this point has really taught me that "Health comes first" is more than just a thing people say to sound good. Connecting the dots of what we've seen on your journey to what you've shared today was just a breath of fresh air because I'm sitting here thinking "Life is hard for all of us, I hope she's giving herself plenty of grace." But I haven't even been doing that for myself. It's absolutely easier to share the good parts because you don't want to come off as ungrateful, negative or whining, but it doesn't sound like that at all! You're just sharing your human experience even while doing a thing you love. You really made me realize it's so important to share when you're struggling, and I need to do that with my own lil community. Its so hard when someone has trouble balancing life with work or friend/partners/family, sometimes you need to touch bottom (hope it didnt was like that) to realice that you need to take full control over your life/health and not the other way around, theres times when you feel like if youre not doing all of that youre a failure or not given all that you can. i sometimes have to intervine when someone (mostly my mom) is not taking good care of themselves. Hope you can find that balance and keep doing the best you can.
If you need to drop a few video's or have a less broad collection if that means you stay healthy, please do so.

Omg, thank you for sharing the reality if small business with us. You inspire me every day. I started my own business because of you, and it's really, really hard to keep going in the beginning. Sales drop out of nowhere and things don't go to plan. That makes me always feel like I failed somehow. It's the nature of business, especially in America during a presidential election. So many folks are unsure at times like this and sales slump soooo badly! Please take care of yourself. We are your loyal fan base and we need our Catherine to be okay!

Oh my gosh, thank you so so much for sharing your struggles in this vlog and being so open about what it is really like to run a business. This was so relatable and also comforting to see. I just started out as a content creator and pursuing my dream of making art, and I'm doing that in any spare time I have whilst still doing my full time job. And honestly I feel you. I love making my art as soon as I get home from work and get so focused on getting things done and reaching my goals, everything else end up in the "later" space. I myself need to remind myself so just take a day once in a while and not think "work" just so I can take a mental break and refresh. I do believe though that it is also important to do this, cause I find that after a bit of a refresh I tend to be more clear headed and a lot more creative.

I see a lot of those habits creeping in to my life time to time. One mindset I have changed though is that I always used to get so down on myself for struggling and letting my health go. Now I focus more on the restart/refresh and focus less on what I did "wrong".
I'm so thankful that there is a creative like you out there that does touch on ALL things, not just the highlight reel.

I have been struggling hard with imposter syndrome from watching other small businesses because they all show mainly the upside of business and when I have been struggling I felt like maybe something was wrong with my business even though so far this year I have done really well for not even being a year old, but really appreciate you sharing a vulnerable non perfect side of running your own business. 💖

When I focus so hard on working I stop working out and I really struggle with a good balance between cooking, house work, business work and working out. It literally feels impossible to achieve all of them at the same time. 😭 I struggle wondering how others do it.

Super resonated with this. This year has been the absolute worst for sales for me. I've worked harder than ever and it's just not going well for some reason. I always have to remind myself that I'm still a baby in business. We really are so hard on ourselves. It's so easy to tell someone else to take a break, but when it comes to ourselves it feels like we haven't earned it. Sometimes we do just have to "suck it up buttercup " and put on our big girl britches and move on. But when we're doing that too much and too often, that's when it becomes a problem. So good for you for taking care of yourself.
Self care is really about taking CARE of yourself. Making sure you're eating healthy most of the time, moving your body on a regular basis and taking care of your mental health. That's what real self care is.

Marshie is the best! I admire your positive and innocent outlook on life. You are such a breath of fresh air, Catherine … compared to so many who are so self-focussed. So when you do comment on struggles … we feel them right along with you. I just want to give you a big hug … tell you not to be so hard on yourself and suggest you might like to sit and plan a bit more. Always have a finish time that you are strict about. Plan your days realistically using hour by hour sections for your day (don’t underestimate times for each job) … and then leave 2 extra hours BLANK at the END of each day for catch up. DO NOT get sidetracked into doing anything apart from what is on your day’s to do list until everything has been ticked off. Then use those two hours for some fun stuff or some extra jobs you never get to! But … stick to that finish time. That’s my humble advice … and please take it or leave it! I absolutely love all your TH-cam videos … both accounts. I am addicted to seeing your business and life adventures. Take care … and be kind to yourself. I have seen a couple of friends completely go off track after gastric bypass and because they thought it was a miracle cure kept up all their old habits … alcohol and junk food … and ended up putting the weight back on. You have worked so hard … so it is perfectly reasonable for you to take time to look after yourself. Love you to bits! Hugs xxx

It's great that the Halloween launch was a success, and I still need to get my order made soon (I had wanted to on launch day but... sometimes life gets in the way of things... sigh!) All of that said, Bumblebutt, Puddin' the Doggie and Tuffy the Ducky are absolutely the three most adorbs from the World of Katnipp (I'm also bias on my choices a bit too, hah!) and I love that there are new wee creatures and characters coming out every so often, including the reindeer for Christmas! So excited for what will be available!
It's super appreciated to get the perspective beyond just the happy-go-lucky, 'everything is fantastic and bliss and this/that/etc' because, as you've said in this video and previous ones, it isn't always this easy-looking, traveling-around, work whenever you desire to sort of career choice; it's very demanding of you and your creativity and mind. Seeing how you and other creative artists here on TH-cam and over on Instagram do things with their shops or streams or however they do their thing, it's a lot to balance and teach yourself! And to juggle all of that with family and chores and obligations outside the walls of your career/job, it's a load for sure! But I know that for yourself and other creatives out there, there is simply nothing else like it because of what it allows you to feel within your heart and soul.

There are times when I sit down to watch a little TV and I'm feeling a bit guilty about not working but I have to take a break because my back is hurting. I also feel guilty about not spending time with my husband because I'm constantly in my office and some weekends, I'm at markets. I try to take Sundays off but sometimes, that's hard to do, especially when there's so much to do preparing for an art market coming up. But I do try to take it easy the next day after an art market, especially when the weather is hot.

MARSHIE IS THE BEST 🎉 I hear you when you say you work too hard. I was told by doctor this week I may have just overworked myself but I'm going back to bring balance in. I started businesses whilst my teens were young and then had a baby no 3 and still taking care of my then mum who was ill at the time and now passed and yes I too delved right in to deal with grief. But everything comes with balance and step by step structure and strategies. You are doing incredibly well. Yes, slow down a wee but thank you for being open and honest which is why I love you all so much as you are so relatable 😊 and thank you for just doing what you love inspiring us all with your creativity and fun plus how to do's. But it's true that we get to do what we love put happy smiles on many many faces. Please take care of yourself ensure that you have time of becoming healthier for these future babies waiting to arrive ❤️ Keep shining bright ❤❤😊
