Back in the 1950s and 1960s, my grandmother used to make cakes from scratch. I remember her coconut cakes were a thing of beauty! Thanks for the memories. 😊
My grandmother was from Tennessee and I lived with her when I was a child in the 1950s. She baked a lot of pies, but I only remember her making a cake once a year on my birthday. It was always a coconut cake, made pretty much the way you do, except just butter, no coconut cream in the icing. She always made more icing than she needed, then took the rest of the icing, mixed it with coconut, and rolled it little balls for treats. She always used Baker’s coconut too. This video brings back such memories. I need to try making one myself.
That looks delish! My Mom had dementia as well. She lived about 8-9 years after we first noticed something was off. She was an awesome cook too. It is sad to watch someone you love disappear little by little. It is like losing them twice. Keep doing these awesome video's and sharing your secrets!
Baker's coconut is absolutely the best to buy.. Our walmart sells Lopez cream of coconut in the row near soda with drink mixer things..This cake looks so very tasty!
Another fan of Agan’s Bakery! Cartersville, GA native - now calling Monterey, California home. Thanks for all of the cakes you and your mom made with the Agan family for so many years.
My momma made the prettiest coconut cakes. They looked like a big snowball. She used seven minute frosting and put coconut on top and sides. It was so delicious. She passed in 2009 and I haven't got the nerve up to try and make it.😊
What is at the top some times is the cream and usually you get it when the weather is cold in the warmer temperatures you won’t get. Just have to shake the can good
Yes ma’am. I always buy Bakers coconut. And I love a coconut cake. Remember the Pepperidge Farm cakes in the freezer section. So delicious. Love you sweet lady. ❤❤
I LOVE your momma's original recipe. I make it for my best friend's birthday because coconut cake is her favorite. I think i will try this recipe since it's so much easier.
In the video you used 1 Stick of Butter and 1/4 cup cream of coconut but in the description it says 1 1/2 stick of butter and half a cup of cream of coconut and no vanilla? Do we go by the video or description? Thank you in advance
Coconut cake looks delicious I take about a couple of slices out of it or have to take FedEx at 22 Pueblo Colorado run run a fan fan I just love your cooking supreme for you and your husband you look perfect like a perfect couple of love love birds keep on loving and kissing your husband lots of hugs lots of kisses to him he's so important to your work that you do together is your team your team I love you together
Girl, I would’ve already had that thing in the floor, tilting it around covering it with coconut then cutting it! Great job! It looks beautiful and delicious!
Hello Tammy, your cake looks delicious and beautiful too😊my mama made a Greek coconut style cake and she was telling me that Bakers coconut is the best, and that is the only kind she will use. I hope you have a wonderful night and God bless 🙏🥰💜
I love the USA brand, that’s been my go to for baking pans and cupcake pans! That cake looks exceptionally yummy! Thanks for the video, I love all of the videos that you and Chris make.❤
Hi Tammy!!! Your cake and frosting look super delicious...I havent made homemade frosting in many years. I'm going to have to try your recipe out...YUMS!!!...Great Video!!!...🦋
This cake looks really delicious. You know what might be good…..if you had taken the remainder of that cream of coconut and drizzled it on the layers before icing them. It would have made them so moist! But, a big ole piece of that coconut beauty would taste wonderful about now!
Miss Tammy, information only. I’m in between homes and I missed your cookbooks soo much, I had to buy 4 more! This cake is fabulous! Thanks for all you do. Hope the family is happy and healthy!🥰🥰💐
Cream of coconut cake. Drooling. Was the cherry chip cake big in the Carolinas too? This Gen Xer like using the cuppa method making box cake mix. Cuppa whole milk. Cuppa mayonnaise. One box of pudding and a box of Dream Whip. I didn't get big eating bad food, every pound was delicious.
I’ve purchased that brand of coconut cream from the Dollar Tree. I’m not saying they always have it and I haven’t been to the $ store in a while, but I’ve purchased it there a few times. Decent size can, but not as large as the one you used.
@@susanjane2498 they are called, 'bake even cloth strips..... You wet them and wrap around outside of pans... The moisture keeps the outside of the cake from getting done quicker than the middle, thus having rounded layers. I made my first ones from wetting paper towels and then wrapping them in aluminum foil and wrapping the foil around the sides of the pans. Actually they work better than the fabric strips you can buy cuz they tend to loosen and not stay in good contact. I used mine multiple times.

I have to use homemade fabric cloths around my cake pans to keep em from puffing up... But, I rarely make 3 layers so maybe 3 would be better.
? I don't understand.
