I have a very skittish terrier with a skinny skull and wide neck. She has wiggled out of every collar and harness we have ever bought her. Just bought one of these right after watching! Fingers crossed this is the last one we'll ever need!
No one talks about this but i think the choker chain is one of the best training tools. All you have to do most of the time is pull leash so the choker chain makes a little noise and that's enough to communicate to your dog a correction. I rarely need to physically correct, the chain friction noise normally works imho.
Thanks for the video. I used a nylon snap collar with my last dog. They are getting harder to find. Seems like the Martindale will do the trick. Your dog is a great video partner chilling out for the demo!
what do you mean by a snap collar? I make and sell dog collars as a small side gig and am trying to expand the types of collars, I didnt know if you just ment a generic collar or something else
Will it help stop lead pulling? My dogs 8 month old and my mum is so paranoid about putting a collar on her and she pulls really hard Edit: for anyone wanting to get one, get one! I used it for a short low distraction walk and it somewhat worked! I’m going to train with it but she certainly reduced her pulling by quiet a bit not 100% but I haven’t used it on her before so after training that’s when the real results should come in, get the one with the chain bit rather than all nylon the chain makes a pop noise when the collar tightens to the max and it’s a great communication thing to get the the dog to understand the pop=stop/slow down on pulling! Great little collar!
@@Memorywipe no problem I’ve been training with it ever since here’s the real results- so I trained her to heel and just rewarded for ANY loose lead on walks and learned to get her focus on me when I ask the collar doesn’t just work like magic it does need work put into it but it really helps as it doesn’t choke her (when fitted correctly) which is nice as she sometimes pulls out of excitement BUT more than half of our walk is nice loose lead 😄 I have videos on my tik tok page if you’d like to check them out for help I made a video of me training on it and the results of it to help you know what to do - @rosie_the_terrierr
I want to know if a martingale could be used in place of a prong collar? Will it serve the same function overall? As in can I correct my dog with the martingale like I would with a prong collar?
@@bbednorz319 the video describes the collars, it is not a collar instructional video. The question was answered in that they are different tools... the don't work the same... that is my answer.
I was advised high up the head it can be anywhere you like but for my case because my dog pulls ALOT a I keep it up high so when she pulls I can give a clear correction it’s amazing
You suggested searching your Amazon page for the collar type. However the ones available to purchase all have a plastic clip that could break. What specific brand was use in this video and where can it be purchased? I have looked online and there only appears to be ones with clips or chains. Nothing similar to the video. Please help
if I hadn't got 2 martingales already I certainly would not be taking advice from someone who uses a choke chain as a training method, your abuse of training any dog with a choke chain is disturbing,. are you a trainer? if you are you are lucky and privileged to have dogs under your trust., each time you put a choke chain on the dog the abuse starts, have patience if you are or anybody is using them you are taking the easy way out ,dig deep and use your skills if you indeed have them,, kind gentle non harsh methods, your choke chain training will have its consequences on the dog
You do know that Robert started his training career with shelter dogs - the most skittish batch of dogs you'll find - , right? lol Listen to what a person says before making an assumption. Yes, I said "assumption", because the people who talk bad about choke chains/prong collars/e-collars obviously don't know the CORRECT way of using them. Stop listening to the Internet "experts" and learn from people who've actually done their work with real dogs. Robert Cabral has worked solely with shelter dogs for 12 years. He'd know more than anybody if choke chains actually hurt dogs - not just physically, but mentally as well. Come out from you bubble, little snowflake; come out into the real world.
I would like to point out there are specific breeds that will absolutely need to utilize these types of collars (i.e grey hounds, doodle breeds, and other similarly shaped breeds) While there is a definitive line between training and abuse, these collars most certainly don't cross that line. The collars are generally more comfortable for the dogs throughout the day and only tighten (they mechanically have a stop point to prevent injury) during back out and pull attempts. If you where to use a standard collar on an Aussiedoodle for example, which I have two of, they can fairly easily back out of collars and harnesses unless they are made dangerously tight the entire time they are on a lead. I'm not sure about you, but I think being uncomfortable for a brief period when trying to back out of a collar is significantly better than having an escape, you are aware dogs get hit on public roadways more than any other animal right? (with the exception of small mammals like squirrels). Anyway, before you decide to make arguably idiotic commentary you should definitely do some research. Also, I do understand there are some people that may use training aids incorrectly and these methods may very well be considered abuse, I do however know most of the time these tactics are specific to chokes and slip leads, not martingales. There is a enormous difference between the two.

@@danah7646 they are nylon and look like a choke collar, but if used properly they are not. You will see them on every dog had a dog show.
So is this collar recommend only for controlling and not training? Would it not take the place of a slip lead if training during walking? Thanks
It’s an all around great collar.
this is better than choke chains because you can be at left or right side of your dog

I also like the martingale collar. I just need to find a all canvas type because the chain getting rusty does not work well with a white coat dog.

Should it be placed high up on the head or low? And the attachment is it supposed to be on top or under the chin?

Beautiful
I just use a harness.
Coconut ScienceGirl92 great job. You make your dog into a puller
or just train your dog
July Mays YES!
July Mays have you ever heard about dog training? Train your dog to not pull on a harness.. Good job, using collars gives your dog neck injuries
If your dog's trained not to pull then using a collar doesn't harm them. ANY training tool even a harness can be used wrong.
