    Great video, great explanation. I’ve had mine for a minute but haven’t started using it yet because I wasn’t confident I would do it properly even though I’ve watched a ton of videos. You explained it just different enough to where it makes enough sense and now I think I got it.

      @@AJ-qs9sr Yes! It took me a little while but I found a great group of trainers and also a club. This is where I really started learning. Basics can be done from videos but I am doing bitework and protection training and will work on more advance obedience so I needed some in person help. One of my trainers has started a youtube channel and although this was a great video on e collar, my trainer put out the best video thats so in depth that anyone can really learn exactly how to use the e collar. So check out his channel, its called Dogma Dog Training Academy. He is so great and the other trainers I work with actually trained under him so I keep it consistent. I drive almost 4 hours to go see him because hes just the best and its awesome hes putting out some free info. His other episodes are more about bitework and stuff but the e collar episode is so good.

    I love how you did the training person to person first. I have a wonderful german shepherd who we fostered then adopted. She is great on recall as long as there is nothing else around, but pretty reactive on leash, when off leash she rushes other dogs that she doesn't know if they are taller than her. Our trainer recommended this e-collar for her and I'm looking forward to working with her on it. Having that stimulation to come back to me is exactly what we need.

    But you need to know what you’re doing or consult somebody that knows what they’re doing with those collars otherwise it’s going to backfire on you!!! If you don’t know how to train a dog with an electronic collar already consult someone who does! It can go great if you know what you are doing or terrible if you don’t!!!

    Hamilton! I am totally hooked to these videos of how you teach the use of e-collars. It’s a bit difficult for me to know the exact moment you press the button, for how long, and when you stop. You showed it on the first video when you were ‘training’ the owner of the Doberman. Would it be possible if you edit the videos and add like a red button 🚨🔴 on one of the corners that says: “button pressed” when you pressed the button; then like a “loading bar” 🪫during the seconds that you have the button pressed -showing for how long you pressed the button. Then finally, like a green button taht says: “button released!🎉”, once you release the button?
    Since we can’t see your hands, it’s almost impossible to associate the exact moments for all of this!

    • @CCOREY5
      @CCOREY5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, it’s negative reinforcement because the stim is so light that it’s just an irritation or slight uncomfortable sensation that stops as soon as the dog turns to look and come to the handler. It REINFORCES, ie increases the likelihood of the behavior of the recall.
      To be positive punishment it would have to be stronger, be actually aversive to the dog, enough to DIMINISH the likelihood of repeating an unwanted behavior.

So why you start to put pressure just before you say the dog’s name?

She's my first larger dog after my Chiwahwa and she obviously needed training. I've done loads of research and self trained her with great improvements. I've also trained her on an e collar(good quality one) after doing research and now I can walk her at night without holding the leash with minor distractions and without having to use the e collar but have it on just in case. it is punishment, not negative reinforcement. negative reinforcement is denying a reward

    • @enfanir
      @enfanir 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I’m not an e-collar fan myself but you’re incorrect. Denying a reward is negative punishment. Negative reinforcement is the removal of a (typically aversive/annoying) stimulus to make a wanted behavior more likely to reoccur. The “reward” that reinforces a behavior in negative reinforcement is essentially relief from an aversive stimulus. Think toddler loudly crying because they want candy and the parent gives them the candy to stop and get relief from the loud crying, that would be negative reinforcement on the parent.
      You’re thinking of positive punishment. The addition of an aversive stimulus to decrease a behavior.
      Think of the positive and negative in operant conditioning not to mean good or bad, but rather adding or subtracting stimuli.
      Positive = addition of stimulus
      Negative = subtracting/removal of stimulus
      Then with punishment and reinforcement it’s all about effecting behavior…
      Reinforcement = doing something to make a behavior MORE likely to reoccur
      Punishment = doing something to make a behavior LESS likely to reoccur
      So you mix and max those terms based on the definitions.
      Negative reinforcement = removal of stimulus to make a behavior more likely to reoccur.
      Positive reinforcement = addition of stimulus to make a behavior more likely to reoccur.
      Negative punishment = removal of stimulus to make a behavior less likely to reoccur
      Positive punishment = addition of stimulus to make a behavior less likely to occur.
      And that’s operant conditioning!

    Why drop the F-bomb in a dog training video? So much for watching with my kid so he understands how e-collars work.

    With saying his name and at the same time pressing the button... you are makinging a negative connection with his name... right? Shouldn't you use it when he doesnt listen to his name because of distraction or anything? His name should be all positive right?
    No trolling just dubbelchecking cuz they teached me different...

    • @JesterJ71
      @JesterJ71 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not exactly, they're still acclimating the dog to the collar and every time he comes back the dog gets paid. The stim is so low that the dog is only slightly confused about the pressure but not stressing about it. If the dog fears the collar, then you call his name and the stim was higher/aversive, that would be a negative connection. The ecollar should always be seen as something positive for your dog. For instance, putting a leash on a dog that never worn one, he'd be terrified of it being put on, until he's conditioned to enjoy it.

    why would any doberman need an E collar ? if a doberman is running away from you than the problem is you and your relationship dobermans instinct is to stay with its person. thats why they are called velcro dogs

    • @hamiltondogtraining

      It’s to stimulate the dog. I haven’t watched the video having paused it 2 seconds in seeing this arrogant comment. I don’t use E collars but I’m planning on it. One man I seen introduced the E collar to his dog as if he was petting it. Your dog can be far away and the low vibration imitation you petting the dog in their mind stimulating them causing certain dog to stay driven depending on the genetics of the dog and what the handler is doing. This could be a very useful tool especially for driven dogs being that the dogs loyalty and love the dog has for you will make them give whatever task 110%

      I have a 2 year old doby that I adopted this summer. She is a Velcro dog in the house and responds well but if she is off leash out doors she bolts. She absolutely loves to run and is impossible to catch. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have their dog from the puppy stage to lay a good foundation of training and it can be difficult to stop bad behaviors in a more mature dog.
