Too bad I'm a network engineer, so that rules me out of any pools.

Engineers in general are still a very diverse bunch with ample salaries and those who are good at their jobs have a number of hobbies. But Ellie can start with the stuff directly around what she's doing, robotics conventions, videography groups/competitions, graphic design, art, music (everything from live music bars to open mic karaoke) just as a start. There's so many things of interest you can pop in on meetup that, in general, a girl will find an interested party if they're willing to go out.

Though while I'll agree, bitten nails are noticable, based upon the pic Ellie has the hair of many-a-engineer. Modify the hair care routine slightly or get more collagen and omega 3 in the diet (as she's vegetarian with seemingly a fairly narrow staple foods like lentils and pasta) and learn a few simple styling methods will go a much longer way than nails.

Both of my parents are engineers, and I can tell you that they really do not socialize much outside of hanging out with other engineers when they feel like it. When they do though, look for them at bars with live music. Especially punk rock, jazz or grunge. There is a lot of overlap between the engineer community and the punk/grunge community especially. It was considered pretty rebellious to pursue engineering as a career when my parents were young. A lot of that culture is still present. Hope this helps anyone who does have that specific interest in a romantic partner.

9:15 same ellie, i too got a finger nail eating problem to the extent that i have fully eaten off my thumb nail 2 or 3 times even it hurt like a mothertrucker to get that last piece. everytime i see some nail sticking out and thinking to myself that i'm only going to bite off that piece it never ends there. i bite off too much that i just rather bite off the entire nail for it to regrow and fix my mistake. Its it gross: yes. Is it a problem: yes. Could i stop doing it: i have tried but it has become a habit that i cannot help myself if i just notice some nail stick out weird. I'm just lucky it hasn't become infected during its regrowing time if it has then i would had needed to amputate my thumb.
