  • The Trustfire GM35 is a weapon light that has has some things going for it but is not without it's flaws. I always appreciate new gear and see the efforts made but there is room for improvement. Thanks to Henri Bierman and TorchSA for sending me these.

Nice review! Been waiting a while for this one, and you didn't disappoint. I've been running one of these for a month or so and can't say I'm disappointed in much other than holster availability. As you correctly say, (and I found out the hard way,) no-one currently makes an appendix carry holster for this light. I bought a very expensive one from a well-known local manufacturer thinking it was for appendix, but turns out it's actually strong-side. The light on the back is indeed a battery-level indicator, and is visible when mounted on my P-07, however it's a silly location. It should have been on the bottom or side instead. I do agree that the candela could have been better, although in my testing outdoors it easily illuminated anything I would like or need to see, well in excess of 100m in pitch black conditions. Due to the limited candela it would probably not do as well in a light-polluted environment. In my opinion if you're "searching" further than 100m you should probably be using a long-gun anyway. As for the buttons, I exclusively use the one-click on and off - even for momentary. They should have made the mode change if you depress both buttons or something. All that said: I'm not a LEO. It's not my job to chase dangerous people through fields and down alleyways, which is where I can see most it's shortcomings lie. For me, as a civie, it ticks the boxes I need ticked, at a great price point. If only holsters were easier to come by... (Planning on doing the next Rusty Gunman Low Light course. Will put it through it's paces there)

With a bit of creativity you can make a strong side IWB holster work as AIWB. Adding a claw / wing and a wedge, and play with the loop height to get a zero cant, and you're pretty close...

@@davidpyle7333 thanks David. I'll play around with it. A claw should help a lot. I'll also have to find a way to seat it lower, probably by filling new holes in the clips. The only real challenge is the angle of the clips. I'm sure I'll find a way.

The light indicator turns yellow with medium capacity and then red when it's low on capacity. Yeah the step down setting when holding momentary is kind of a flaw.. but other than that I think they're solid quality for the money.

Agree 100%, multi-modes belong on utilitarian lights, WML's need on and off and that's all.

Might be worth making your own IWB holster. It's not that hard.

I have an unpopular opinion: home defense lights should be as dim as possible without being useless. Since you are guaranteed to blind yourself with a powerful light indoors.
