Great story! Being a TH-camr is very similar to running your own business. You should upload things people want to see, just like businessman should offer product/service that people need. And when the growth becomes real, you can consider hiring people to help you run your channel more efficiently. The most difficult part is starting and growing of course, but consistency and hard work (with a little bit of help from Fame- ster of course) will always pay off at the end.
What if being yourself involves being an absolute weird, unhinged goober on camera? And your idea for content involves a gaming channel that’s a cross between Filthy Frank and the Angry Video Game Nerd?
The people who can get away with no editing, are those who have a lot of charisma, speed in articulating their thoughts, and public speaking ability. If you're not in that category yet, there is very little chance that people will stick around listening to someone rambling, stumbling on words, being nervous, not looking at the camera, etc... Editing can help you put out great content, while you're improving your camera and speaking skills.
Pretty much agree, but having gone from a nervous heart palpitating commentator , it gets easier and so does the ability to think quickly on your feet. It still doesn't mean I can get up in front of crowd and give a speech though. It's also dependent on what you are trying to get across. Good luck😊

@BeastModeLIVE G'day mate , the only reason i don't edit is because I can't. The same goes for the still? That appears for the video, their are better ones 🤔 that I would pick , but I let youtube do it. Here's something ove noticed , I no longer get wild viewer numbers for some clips eg 2k+, 5k & my best just under 10k, I think these # were used to keep me in the game. I then started getting views around the 40 mark. As I continue to post everyday as per youtube hints , as I hit the 500 viewer mark , this seems to be around the 440 mark. Don't worry 😉 I still get videos that get less than 5 views , they seem to be when I make statements. This youtube thing got me beat, it's got a mind of its own. Goodluck

I think most people don't even pay much attention to thumbnails anymore. While they can be done very well, we are so use to over the top, attention grabbing thumbnails that our eyes just slide by them. What I find has been leading to tremendous views lately, is really enticing titles. Not just focusing on SEO to get TH-cam to put you in front of people's faces, but title copy that people read and just HAVE to tap on.
I do not beleive that editing it what gets views or subscribers. I feel the value of the content is the magic answer. Thanks so much for sharing this Nolan great content

This is great news because editing is what prevents me from getting out more videos. I like going live because of the lack of editing. Although lately I have been going back and doing simple edits in TH-cam studio.
Thanks so much Nolan. I've never heard someone position the 5 levels of video development like this before. But it makes complete sense 🤯. I also love the format of your own video. Its also so refreshing to watch a video about YT that's not moving really fast. I honestly find those videos exhausting and hardly watch.
Nolan I like how you broke it down by levels, where was this video when I first started just over a year ago?! You are right, I was trying to do stuff in editing I didn't even know yet. Minimal editing is a little harder than it looks, but I like it goes to show you that story telling is the real hero here!

@moniquelemaire5333 G'day Monique, from Australia , Friday morning. OK. Know who your audience is: I think as the content attracts or repels the viewer it’s really about pushing the content that you want (ex: no editing) + I believe they are higher quality viewer because they are not about the flashy animations and dopamine :) with my small YT channel I started moving to no editing and when done right (with improved script and awesome topic), it’s better!
Video idea+great story telling is legit the only thing that matters the rest can be terrible but if everyone who does click watches the entire thing it will keep pushing your video
@@thiefah Thank you. My challenge now is going to be testing with and without chapters. But I will definitely improve my content to make them watch until the end without them
@anticonfidencegirl I have been studying what makes a good video for about 6 months now and it finally clicked literally today its simple don't reinvent the wheel mr beast said it best good idea+good thumbnail= clicks then good story telling in whatever niche your in keeps people watching then exceed expectations with a sprinkle of bonus info or reward in the video that is the master class on success on TH-cam
Thanks for talking about this. As a new TH-camr, I have concluded that thumbnail is good but not a must do. Facial expressions from screenshot rather than thumbnails can also attract viewers. I posted my first video almost a month ago.
I just started my TH-cam channel and had a media background over 20 years ago, so I was able to do level 3 easily, now I am working on better thumbnails, better hooks, and retention... thanks for the great video.
As a new content creator, I really appreciate how you broke this down into 5 levels. I'm learning as I go especially with the editing part. So this reassures me that the natural progression I'm doing is the right one.
Good video thank you. I went from 0 to 10,600 subs in 9 months and the number one comment I get is about my authenticity. My editing is mediocre at best and I'm naturally more analog so it's all working out very well.
I love what you do, I really do. But the beginning is a bit misleading. The video of you launching a business is 100% recommended to all people following Think Media. This is a one off with 3.5K subs, not gonna be the usual performance. Without context I really do find it misleading => Wouldn't recommend anyone starting a youtube channel to bet on unedited videos. Yes it can be part of the strategy but taking you as an example is 100% misleading, especially with your experience.
It is more about saying you don't have to. It's a new way, not THE new way, where as before, trying to succeed with unedited content was next to impossible.
Brother Nolan! Good to see you post a video. :) Seems a common trend with the examples is "advice". I think we're in a society where people are looking for ADVICE on navigating this world and that's why the CONTENT of these videos is valuable. I see this as a great gateway to spread the Gospel. Thank you for the encouragement.
Absolutely. Anything that's talking head and us either relatable or advice has always been a big "win" in general. But educational content is still wonderful too I just wish tech would advance for those types of niches, like tutorial/overhead videos vs simple talking head videos. That'd make things soo much easier for me atleast haahhaah
With time, you ll know how not being a part of TM was the biggest gift in your life! You simply shine on your own. I started one of the fastest growing medical channels in Arabic 7 months ago, in part thanks to your advice. Would love to work with you, however, I dont know if you would be interested in projects in other languages?
I bet the "no editing style" isn't really new. What probably happened was a lot of creators were already not editing because they didn't know how. Most people don't know the "rules" of making content. Then all of a sudden a channel gets big with the no editing style. Then people comment on it in hindsight and conclude no editing works. I'm reality we don't know why something really works. If we did. The advice would work everyone and it doesn't.
Hold on yall, u still gota think about timing, timing was key for nolan and his 1st video. As long as he provides value the whole time, its getting views. I have no idea abouy the otger videos w no editing. Im still gona edit and hit the shorts hard firever
Thank you for sharing this. After learning from you, in this video, I feel a sense of freedom. Because editing takes so much of my time, it has become an excuse for me to be inconsistent on YT. This video has inspired me to produce some unedited videos, which will save me time and sanity 🌞💯 Thank you so much. I can't wait for you next video. God bless.
Exactly!!! Being consistent is so important. And showing up is easier when there’s less limitations & road blocks. “No editing” can be a great way to start! That’s why it’s Level 1🙌🏻
I'm leaving this comment here as a reminder. Whether it's hours, days, weeks, or even years from now, when someone likes or comments on it, it'll remind me to never forget where I started
I had just written a newsletter about this exact topic and TH-cam showed me this right after. Earned a subscriber with this one - you’ve got a great grasp on how creators actually think about their content. Great work.
Thank you Nolan, I started going live with my storytelling channel and I can see people like it much more than when I edit it, numbers are still low view count but they staying longer and most of them watch it to the end. My second appearance is tonight and I will be able to judge is it an accident or people like it more that way.
Great video. I typically follow this format. It lowers the barrier of entry for creation, and that actually encourages me to record and publish. I love it.
I started a second channel which is more like a podcast where I just talk and no edits made. Surprisingly it started getting soaring up the moment I started focusing on the content part. I guess it actually works. My audience is in the age of 25-34 and I make sure I talk about things that directly appeal to them in the local language.
Appreciate the video, Nolan. Always have great advice. One piece of feedback for this one though. I was so looking forward into a deep-dive of the whole no-editing creators. I feel that part came too short with 3 min. The Rest of the Video didn't really fit in. I have heard the different levels and how to get views many times already and I think going a level deeper on the no-editing way or maybe even just watching a few of those editors would have been more suitable. Either way, appreciate all the advice you share. Keep it up!
Great advice for people who have a channel subject that can accommodate zero-editing. It's hard to Sergio Leone a Travel or c=Cooking or Board Gaming channel. Great advice for niche channels that don't need editing! Great advice for naturally born storytellers of whom few people are. As a New Orleans tour guide for 20+ years I can tell you this is a skill most to not possess in abundance. But for the skilled storyteller great advice. but you really can't become a skilled storyteller without first having some knowledge and comfort with public speaking...in which case you might need some editing. Basic editing isn't all too difficult. Delete Left, Delete Right are your friends.
YES - be lucky enough to have a magnetic personality that draws people in and keeps their attention. Those people can run through their grocery list, and it will go viral. The rest of us - good luck.
That's why people should never give up just because they don't get views...consistency is the secret, however sometimes situations in life slow us down
Thanks for sharing this video. It is encouraging because I am new to TH-cam, no bells and whistles, no flashy stuff. I simply put my preaching & teaching of the Gospel of Jesus on my channel. I do want to learn how to edit, but the Gospel is simple and im a simple man. People who are in love with the Message will watch.
Going viral is awesome, no doubt. But here's the thing, it's not always smooth sailing after that initial buzz. Take it from me, I had a 75k+ views, but my channel's growth actually plateaued. Turns out, virality isn't a magic bullet for success. Instead, it taught me the value of steady progress. Don't get me wrong, I was stoked about the views, but it was a reality check that sometimes things don't go as planned. So, if you're chasing virality, just remember there's more to the journey than one hit video.
I do very little edits on the channel, and it has been well with educational financial literacy and investing. I will remove the pauses through Adobe Premier and text edit errors... that is all 6k+ subs and growing daily.
Three months ago, I published a video that has garnered over 200k views so far, increasing my subscribers by 10x, even though I had fewer than 600 subscribers and only 2-3k views per video at that time. The key to its success? I believe it happened because of the high interest in the topic and the specific information my audience was seeking at that moment. How much time did I spend working on the title and thumbnail of the video? The same amount of time I spend on the rest of my videos: less than 5-10 minutes. As for the quality of the editing, I use the most beginner-friendly software because my editing skills are very basic. I approach it this way not because I dismiss the importance of editing and thumbnails, but because I don't have time due to my jobs. So I agree with your main idea, Nolan: start at level one without worrying too much about editing. Later, you can learn and enhance your systems and editing skills, which is something I really want to achieve. Anyway, I think that "non-editing trend" videos work much better for educational content rather than for storytelling ones, where the creator needs to tell a visually appealing story to retain the viewer's attention.
I'm working on level 4 and 5. When I started my mother's cooking channel I could already start her videos out at level 3 since I had been editing for years now. So I'm currently working on hooks and retention.
I truly believe and by my experience, that is destiny! No matter what you do or dont do, if a video is meant to be watch, it will, if it doesn't it won't, period. The same is truth for everything in Life on Earth.
Nolan, thank you so much for this brother. I have 3 young daughters and have basically very little time to edit videos anymore. That is why I had to 'quit' TH-cam despite loving it so much. But you bring me hope with this excellent video. I have been following since your beginning with Think Media and this is my new account, so I just subscribed to your channel because of the message of hope you just delivered. Cheers to your success brother and God bless you!
Love the trend for simpler communication. I’m a pro photographer and I thought editing video would be intuitive to me but it’s harder than I thought and I don’t have time for it. My channel is advice for photographers and behind-the-scenes of my work and I’d rather just get the videos done than messing with editing to perfection. Perhaps I’ll get better at video editing as I go along.
Gonna try to implement this more. It feels more natural and less stressful!! I wish the videos you referred to were linked. I'd like to watch them now, lol!!
Thank you so much for giving me the idea to update my thumbnails! Watching this inspired me to go change my thumbnails in my little channel with 3 videos and 2 shorts! Wow what a difference! I wish I'd snapped a before and after! I'm actually proud of it now 🥰 Looking forward to growing into a success!!
Nicely done! I think further editing on your own videos might actually hurt views for you - it was just so refreshing to watch your video without all the modern edits and cuts making you feel like you're watching TV ads all the time lol!
Thank you so much for this video. Just what I needed to hear. Level one, but got stuck feeling that I needed to jump to level 5 now, because it's moving to slow. I've been watching you for some time, and keep subscribing again and again (for some reason YT removes subscriptions) because your content is always so valuable. Thanks for that.
Nolan, you are amazing bro. You’ve helped me so much in growing my channel. I tackle all things mental health from a Christian perspective and I can’t thank you enough for your helpful content that propels me to make better content. Keep doing you bro!
Whats the best way to do this for a music channel? I have alot of videos that are an hour long playing full sets of music that get 50ish view while shorts get about 500ish
I consume a lot of make up asmr videos , and my favourite ones are the non edited, the unintentional that happen at a professional hairdresser (like beautysoom) they’re just videos with a few cuts. ❤
Exactly how I grew to 747 subs and over 150k views since last year. No edits. I don’t have the time but I do like putting out content. And I feel like I can pivot to other things easily like that. One shot-done.
just a quick caveat at 30s in, I just checked and of her 3 latest vids 2 are edited one is not, the edited are like 2k and 60k respectively and th anon-edited is like 4k
Way to go Nolan! So awesome! My husband and I are praying and pulling for you. Looks like you're off to an amazing start!! BTW how do you move your round inset window around the screen?
Wondering what type of software you are using in this video where you can move around your picture in picture while recording? Is this Ecamm or another program for video record and editing. I like you can move around on the screen and go full screen or move around.
Damnn incredible value packed adventure you just took us on! Practicing what you preach too! And now as a view knowing my experience was so great from the content itself (not the editing) I feel compelled to practice the same on the other side as a creator!
Interestingly, I Just tried the method of little or no editing today. Maybe that's why this video popped up on my feed. I am Trying to see the difference in the results
The Big 3 is very good advice for new TH-camr like myself. I am probably just at level 2, I started creating and posting videos and shorts less than 2 months ago. Only a few of my shorts gained some views and a few subs, and then last week my latest long form video that I spent a day filming, editing and creating thumbnail by using Canva got more than 700 views and I had gone from 36 to 56 subs in 5 days. So I hope to create more videos that will gain mor views and subs. If I can gain 25 subs at week, then I will surpass 1000 mark by next June. There is still a lot of technical things to learn, and I am only working on my channel part time 3-5 hours a week so I can try to create and upload 3 shorts and 2 long form videos a week. Also I think I need to do more planning and preparation before I film a video if I want to get better results. Thank you for your helpful tips!
Editing prevented me. I started 22 days ago posting a vlog a day. I will continue to do so. People will like it or not doesn’t bother me. I’m having fun doing it.

@@thiefah dude you're awesome!! Thank you
Thanks for talking about this.
Glad it was helpful!
Good video thank you. I went from 0 to 10,600 subs in 9 months and the number one comment I get is about my authenticity. My editing is mediocre at best and I'm naturally more analog so it's all working out very well.
That is awesome! Thanks for watching.
Just started my TH-cam journey a couple of days ago. I know it will be a lot of hard work, but very excited to show my music with you all😊❤❤
Best of luck!
Can we take a moment to appreciate how Nolan used chrome as a slide deck?👏🏻😄
Typed something, screenshot, open with chrome
I’m starting a new trend 😂
lol
❤
Love your advice. Thank you for sharing. This has been the direction of our channel so far. Authenticity and content are number one!
Thanks for watching!
As a perfectionist, this is really refreshing to hear. I have, and continue to, fall into the over-editting epic video production trap too many times.
❤ yeah.
I started my channel with no-editing and still do not edit until now.
Know others who do not edit their videos too.
This is so true. He already built a following from think. He's just transferring followers that already existed
lets go, never watched your content, had this recommended, about to watch. lets see what you got
Agreed, advice can be valuable especially based on who it’s coming from! Sure is, do it Ted!
@@nolanmolt I'm currently in a state of analysis paralysis. If you ever create a video on that, I'll be all ears! ;)
Thanks for all you do.
❤❤❤❤❤
I bet the "no editing style" isn't really new. What probably happened was a lot of creators were already not editing because they didn't know how.
Most people don't know the "rules" of making content.
Then all of a sudden a channel gets big with the no editing style.
Then people comment on it in hindsight and conclude no editing works.
I'm reality we don't know why something really works. If we did. The advice would work everyone and it doesn't.
It’s not new, and it won’t work for everyone as I mentioned in the video!
crazy. I was getting way more views, before i started editing. time to go back to the basics and slowly perfect my craft.
This TH-cam Level strategy is eye opening! Many Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Hold on yall, u still gota think about timing, timing was key for nolan and his 1st video. As long as he provides value the whole time, its getting views. I have no idea abouy the otger videos w no editing. Im still gona edit and hit the shorts hard firever
Btw i am a solid sub
Thank you for sharing this. After learning from you, in this video, I feel a sense of freedom. Because editing takes so much of my time, it has become an excuse for me to be inconsistent on YT.
This video has inspired me to produce some unedited videos, which will save me time and sanity 🌞💯
Thank you so much.
Great work.
Thanks bro!! Appreciate it 🙏🏻 what’s the newsletter?
Great insight into TH-cam life, Thanks!
You're welcome!
Thank you Nolan, I started going live with my storytelling channel and I can see people like it much more than when I edit it, numbers are still low view count but they staying longer and most of them watch it to the end. My second appearance is tonight and I will be able to judge is it an accident or people like it more that way.
Amazing, nice work on getting started!!
@@nolanmolt thank you so much.
I love editing. Would never think of not doing it. Interesting take though!
Great video. I typically follow this format. It lowers the barrier of entry for creation, and that actually encourages me to record and publish. I love it.
Glad it was helpful!
Story telling is key for sure! Tell the “Story” without fluff and convince them it’s authentic by being AUTHENTIC.
I like that!
YES - be lucky enough to have a magnetic personality that draws people in and keeps their attention. Those people can run through their grocery list, and it will go viral. The rest of us - good luck.
What software you used for the coloring and to turn your video screen to a circle you can move around?
Loom is a great fast way to do it like you are, that's awesome; have you tried audio and see if that works good in terms of playing audio on screen?
That's why people should never give up just because they don't get views...consistency is the secret, however sometimes situations in life slow us down
Very useful info that clearly reveals each step to improve and grow video quality, thanks share!
Glad it was useful!
Glad it was helpful! May success follow you every step of the way.
❤❤
Why does TH-cam have a different CPM for different regions ?? Are some regions more important or valuable than others ?? Kindly explain . Thanks .
Thank you Nolan.
I'm trying really hard.
You got this!
Hey, what is the tool that you are using to capture your screen here?
Focusing on level 1 and 2 was so helpful to hear! I’ve been trying to go level 5 from the get go and getting frustrated!✌️
Yes!!! You gotta start at level 1. We all do!
From one entrepreneurial creative dad to you: keep going, Nolan! I like your spirit, don’t stop making helpful content.
Thanks
I appreciate that!
Come on brother. You got this. Make your passion your paycheck. Stay strong brother.
What is your capture app? How to make circle your face?
I'm working on level 4 and 5. When I started my mother's cooking channel I could already start her videos out at level 3 since I had been editing for years now. So I'm currently working on hooks and retention.
I truly believe and by my experience, that is destiny! No matter what you do or dont do, if a video is meant to be watch, it will, if it doesn't it won't, period. The same is truth for everything in Life on Earth.
I totally agree with you on this, make sure you bring value to your content. Edit or not… your audience will find you. ❤
True!
You're welcome brother, God bless you too!
Thank you for your knowledge.
Mention not!
Exactly!! You get better as you go
Ty for this video. I always try to do my best with editing, while I know I suck at it.
Might try to hop on this trend. 🙂
You are officially my new TH-cam mentor!!!
I'm honoured!
Just provide value. This is the most basic rule for any success in whatever you want.
Great tips!!!
Thanks!
Best wishes for a bright and prosperous future!
The big 3, love that... keep improving on them and as you said before, we are constantly learning and growing x
Nicely done! I think further editing on your own videos might actually hurt views for you - it was just so refreshing to watch your video without all the modern edits and cuts making you feel like you're watching TV ads all the time lol!
Thanks
Thank you so much for this video. Just what I needed to hear. Level one, but got stuck feeling that I needed to jump to level 5 now, because it's moving to slow. I've been watching you for some time, and keep subscribing again and again (for some reason YT removes subscriptions) because your content is always so valuable. Thanks for that.
Thank you so much!! Yes, no need to jump in at level 5 right away. Takes time!
@@nolanmolt 💜💛💜
Nolan, you are amazing bro. You’ve helped me so much in growing my channel. I tackle all things mental health from a Christian perspective and I can’t thank you enough for your helpful content that propels me to make better content. Keep doing you bro!
That’s amazing!! Thanks for sharing. 🙏🏻
Whats the best way to do this for a music channel?
I have alot of videos that are an hour long playing full sets of music that get 50ish view while shorts get about 500ish
Hey Nolan!! Thank you for what you're doing
Thank you for the support!!
I consume a lot of make up asmr videos , and my favourite ones are the non edited, the unintentional that happen at a professional hairdresser (like beautysoom) they’re just videos with a few cuts. ❤
Well done and enjoyable. tHanks for the video.....have a great Memorial Day weekend
Appreciate that, you too!
Exactly how I grew to 747 subs and over 150k views since last year. No edits. I don’t have the time but I do like putting out content. And I feel like I can pivot to other things easily like that. One shot-done.
Beautiful Informative video, nice work Nolan, absolutely subscribing!
I really appreciate that. Thank you!!!🙏🏻
just a quick caveat at 30s in, I just checked and of her 3 latest vids 2 are edited one is not, the edited are like 2k and 60k respectively and th anon-edited is like 4k
Thank you bro, means a ton!!
Depends on content type and the presenter
True!
Glad it was helpful! Wishing you all the success ahead.
Ed over at film booth for a long time has talked about story telling being the absolute key you need to learn first
Editing prevented me. I started 22 days ago posting a vlog a day. I will continue to do so. People will like it or not doesn’t bother me. I’m having fun doing it.
Good to know. I'm just about to start my YT channel and I don't have the time to learn lots of editing.
Good luck!
I never edit...it's all spontaneous..thanks for the inspiration. Keep rockN
You can do it!
Your tab game is relatable! It is a great ponder and I think viewers sometimes resonate with it feeling authentic! Good call!
I am here for this - I love that it removes barriers and more ease as a creator and ability to focus on content quality.
Great to have it broken down into more achievable levels too!
Thanks!
Definitely noticed this lately ❤ thanks for the vid
My pleasure!
