I published 16 bad videos in 2 weeks after one year of overthinking. In the beginning they got just a few views, then the likes started to arrive, then the comments and even a dozen subscribers. I'm still at a very early stage but I got the ball rolling and now I'm starting to see some snowball effects already. That's PRECIOUS advice you are giving! Thank you
Started my channel a week ago after procrastinating and watching “How to start your channel “ for the last year. I reached a point where I just started, and just hope with each video I make they get better. Its the only way to learn, by getting the experience
The only way to get better at making videos is by making videos. Simple. Each time you will refine your craft and one day it will be exceptional. Even then you will still see areas that could be improved on. Lol
This is literally gold. I couldn't agree more. I've spent the last 5 years building 3 YT channels and the only videos that have been caught by the algorithm and still have success today are videos where I didn't put any production effort at all, didn't care about thumbnail, just recorded and uploaded. It's just awesome 😆
Same here it’s amazing how the most honest videos with the least editing connects with the audience and gets more subs from people that will watch more of your content and those are very valuable people to have as subscribers. Never give up everyone keep making videos.
@@reprogrammingmind Yes, I certainly understand that. I just looked at your stuff and I'm sure you'd agree with me on most of the arguments if we sat down for a few whiskeys talk. If someone asked me today whether to even start with YT, even if they had a good idea for content, I'd say "definitely don't start". It's simply unsustainable (both physically and mentally). Seeing less than 3M views on your channel in literally over a decade of uploading to YT confirms exactly the experience I've gained in half that time. Thanks for this video. I've posted a handful of videos over the past few weeks (I just started on YT) and not getting any views. BUT like you said, I am figuring things out, getting a little better each time.
Thx for sharing this, bc I'm a very very small channel just getting started & feel exactly this way. I'm figuring out which ones work & don't work. Thx for sharing!! 🌸
I'm running my channel for years and my videos are performing worse and worse. But my children and my mother love my bad videos and I make video's I'm proud of now instead of focussing on the viewers and subscribers like I did before. And now I'm much relaxed because I don't care anymore.
I have my share of "bad" videos. But I get good watch time. Getting past the subscriber threshold is the hard part for me, since my niche is not returnable content. But my comments and watch time show me I'm helping people and that brings me joy!
Very informative video…you have a great relatable voice…thank you for taking the time to help others. Because of this, you will be blessed over and over again…just subscribed!
Thanks Nolan for making this video! I literally posted a "bad" video a few months ago. The auto focus on my camera made my face look blurry on the video. Despite this I still got a lot of views, likes and even some subscribers for the "bad" video I made
as small creater i know that i m actually overthinking a lot my videos. I think i might just start experimenting with other niches and see how it goes! I do fitness at the moment and i think it's too much competition out there tho!
This makes me feel better. My first two videos, I’m probably harder on than anyone else is. And it can be hard posting it when you know it’s not perfect….. but at least I got started and got two under my belt. #KeepPushing
I noticed that too not just with the video quality but also with SEO stuff , for example videos I barely even cared to put keywords performed way better than the videos I optimized with keywords
True bad videos are really subjective and sometimes the simple to make are the ones thats getting more views. The most viewed videos on my channel are the simple ones and faceless.
I've posted a video almost every week coming up on 3 years, good or bad and I am still chugging along. The first year I only shot video of my art, and no voiceover. I graduated into voiceovers after year 1. My content is video of me making my art and trying to hit those talking points people want to hear along the way. I'll keep going because progress is progress in this game!
Your dedication and growth in both content style and delivery over the years is inspiring. Keep chugging along, as persistence truly pays off in this journey!
I’ve been here for over 2 years and I’ve only just hit my first 1K subs. I struggle to hit 50-150 views per video usually and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I don’t have any fancy equipment (or space for such) so it’s just me and my phone sat on a broken tripod, but passionate and with a love for what I do! I’ve got a new video going up in a couple hours and it’s so hard as when I’m so passionate about my messages and I finally feel proud of myself, nobody sees them! But I will keep going, I can’t quit on something I love so much ❤
Hi everyone ;) reading all of u guys comments we all have felt for the same reasons ! Too self demanding to the point of stop it all together what ! Is not an editing competition 😢
I have had a channel for 11 years. Cars, real estate, and guns. My videos get very few views. Even having had a Ferrari and a Lamboorghini, and still not much growth with 150 videos.
Hi, this is an off topic question but here goes. How do you go about creating a TH-cam channel that keeps your personal identity hidden or untraceable? If you have a video about this I would love to get a link to it. Thanks, Jim
Nolan I like your thought process here, but it's hard to except at times. I know I'm getting better, but some videos just don't do as well as others. I've been on TH-cam for 16 months and I just uploaded a video that I really thought would do better out of the gate, but nope. I'm hoping that it gain some traction down the road because I've tweaked the title and thumbnail as much as I can, I'm even running a thumbnail test right now just to help me. I didn't think it was a bad video lol but who know at this stage in the game anymore!
I checked your channel or seems fine, you are in a specialist niche which means you have a smaller audience but a potentially more powerful loyal one, one thing I noticed is that some videos seem localized maybe with local products or items so people will the ir may not be relevant to them also your channel comes across very commerical and monetized, it gives the impression of a business maybe selling stuff and not a channel with just a passionate guy doing woodwork or something, many will see products and store links and think naa I'm going to be sold to, some may say you're are monetizing to soon, perhaps need more how to vids instead of product vids, it came across as a business channel at first glance and that's fine but it will always put some people off the more monetized and commercial it looks try make it less obvious more subtle
Thanks for your video, they are always informative! However after watching quite some videos on YT about how to gain views and subs, it still amazes me to see these channels getting so much traction. I still feel that a large portion of the success just has to do with the YT algorithm and whether your video/channel will be promoted or not. If I take a look at my own channel, one video does pretty well and then the next one does not seem to get any traction at all. But as you've mentioned, I'll just keep working on it and keep creating and uploading videos, hoping that one day I'll get that little push 😀 Most important, I'm enjoying creating content, and it's always great to read the nice comments some of my viewers post on my channel👍🏼
Yes, I've been at it for over a year, and there definitely seems to be a big element of randomness \ "blessed by the algorithm" ... even when I look at other more successful channels
I totally agree with the "get started and post and views and subs will come as you get better and improve doing the reps" strategy, but using your own videos as examples of this, and as examples of "bad videos" isn't really relatable or relevant at all given your "unfair advantage" as a known personality going solo ;) The only thing some of these examples show, like the one "without a thumbnail" (as in not making a "proper" thumbnail) is that if you utilize the "unfair advantage" of being a known person in the space you are making videos for thumbnails and to some extent titles doesn't really matter as much anymore for getting a certain amount of views. Having just started properly making videos 6 months ago, a couple of them have reached 6k and 8k views, and I'm closing in on being 1/3 of the way in watch time hours and close to half way in subs for monetiziation - but there is a *clear* difference in views and hours watched between my hardware videos and the "weirder" ones where I build all my studio gear from cardboard and scraps. The hardware videos getting traction from being relevant and have a large potential viewer pool, while the more odd videos I make clearly has a much smaller potential audience. They *all* contribute to the subs and watch time hours of course, some much more than others. But none of them are even close to getting the hours and views and +subs counts of your "bad" videos - which only goes to show that it's not the practice of making bad videos in and of it self that's important, but for growth the topics and contents and substance is key, no matter if the video is bad or not. So this focus on "bad" or not videos is really not helping anything unless it's followed up by an even bigger focus on "make interesting content". The problem is a lot of people seem to parrot this "make bad videos" without including the "with GOOD CONTENT" part, which results in bad videos with bad or no content of value at all, which creates so much noise over time. So *good content* is what will make a small channel grow, regardless of the *production quality* of the videos, not "bad" videos in generall, and this is what often gets lost in these videos :)
In these videos you talk about I thought that if you used material from other videos or TV you couldn't monetize but I think I was wrong... good info by the way 👍
Two things one posting on a regular consistent basis and getting better at the craft of TH-cam is a very good thing to do for the long term. My videos of a year ago make me cringe. That said my top advice for people who want to start in TH-cam is to post, post, post. 2. You posting on a new channel the algorithm already knows who you are because of Google ad sense and your new channel is tied to your old channel so you’re going to get a lot more views because they already know who you are and will automatically give you more impressions leading to more views. That’s why I find this kind of stuff to be disingenuous.
I believe people’s fear is that if they post a bad video which doesn’t perform well than TH-cam will stop recommending their channel to people.. so what’s the solution with that case..?
Micro channel here - 2 weeks old and under 30 subs. Views, from the teens to under 40 views per video. I see some channels the same age as mine that have subs in the hundreds - No idea how. And some channels that have been around for years that have 5 subs. Hoping my little channel grows!! My first few videos, I was getting to know the software, getting to know how to relay my message, etc. I want to create short but info packed videos that are not overwhelming. Some videos are way too long with unnecessary filler, and I didn't want mine to be like that.

Thank you for the tips, I hope this tool could be a game-changer for me.
Appreciate comments like these
Famester bot comment.
Thanks for the tips, I really needed to hear this. I"m slowly but surely getting better at speaking in videos. Just gotta keep doing it!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for this video Nolan. I think I will experiment more in making bad videos, and hopefully over time improve! It's a great idea :)
Thanks for watching!
You're Welcome!
Thanks for your inspiration. I had a few bad videos already that I posted and really relate to this video. ❤
You are so welcome! Glad you resonated with it!
Analysis paralysis is my biggest issue. The overthinking to begin again, is stunting me. Time to regroup and just do it.
Thank you for this! Makes so much sense. Repetition is the mother of skill
You're welcome!
Love this Nolan, great advice, get the reps in and keep going
Thank you so much!
Even with 15 Bad vidéos, i Archieved to make a viral one and i know now that YT loves me 🎉
Congrats! Keep going! God Bless Us!
@@UltimateMysteriesQuest-s2h YEAH Shoud be monetized in two months i hope !
Even bad videos could appeal to people right?
Very informative video…you have a great relatable voice…thank you for taking the time to help others. Because of this, you will be blessed over and over again…just subscribed!
Thank you for the kind words!
@ You are quite welcome
Thanks Nolan for making this video! I literally posted a "bad" video a few months ago. The auto focus on my camera made my face look blurry on the video. Despite this I still got a lot of views, likes and even some subscribers for the "bad" video I made
You're Welcome! It's amazing how even "bad" videos can connect with people and bring unexpected success.
as small creater i know that i m actually overthinking a lot my videos.
Getting those first two videos done is a big step, what matters most is that you've begun!
Great content man- I was honestly surprised how helpful this was - thanks 🙏
Glad it was helpful🙏
Great advice amigo ... I'm fired up !!!
Glad to hear it! keep that fire burning and let's crush those goals!🔥
Wow best video I have seen for small TH-camrs 😊
Thank you! 😊
I noticed that too not just with the video quality but also with SEO stuff , for example videos I barely even cared to put keywords performed way better than the videos I optimized with keywords
As a newbie YouTubie, this message is very valuable. Thanks.
Glad you think so!
True bad videos are really subjective and sometimes the simple to make are the ones thats getting more views. The most viewed videos on my channel are the simple ones and faceless.
Thank you - great video coach !
@ Thanks so much Nolan!
I'm just getting started keeping it simple. I'm definitely going to be doing the documenting videos I'm glad you said that in this video 📸😊
The more videos you create the better you get at editing, etc. I wasn’t great when I started. However, it’s my passion. Just keep going everyone.
Thanks Nolan. Great stuff.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you!🙏🏻
I love this. I’m at 600 videos…. Some of them stuck. But I’m not gonna stop
Appreciate the video Nolan! So true. I prefer creators with authentic/raw videos vs everything is scripted.
Thank you so much!
This video rocks, Nolan! More inspiration to me!🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀 Thank you!🙌🙌🙌🙌
Happy to hear that!
Maybe too random info 🙉
@@Fromchinawithlove ?
This is so true. I have multiple videos with over 500k views which are incredibly difficult for me to watch now.
🎉🎉 thanks for the inspiration!
No problem 😊
Such much value! Thanks for making this video 🙏
Glad it was helpful!
@@nolanmolt ✌️
Just started about a month ago, working out the kinks. i have 39 subscribers currently and im looking to improve further
This is the most inspirational video I've ever seen on TH-cam.
Thank you!
That's amazing. Great one.
Glad you think so!
Perfectionism def gets in the way of my consistent posting
I feel you!
Love U Nolan. I like you as a content creator since I saw U at "think media".
Thank you so much!
I checked your channel or seems fine, you are in a specialist niche which means you have a smaller audience but a potentially more powerful loyal one, one thing I noticed is that some videos seem localized maybe with local products or items so people will the ir may not be relevant to them also your channel comes across very commerical and monetized, it gives the impression of a business maybe selling stuff and not a channel with just a passionate guy doing woodwork or something, many will see products and store links and think naa I'm going to be sold to, some may say you're are monetizing to soon, perhaps need more how to vids instead of product vids, it came across as a business channel at first glance and that's fine but it will always put some people off the more monetized and commercial it looks try make it less obvious more subtle
my man probably would call this a “bad” video 🔥🔥
By me posting every day for August I certainly have some bad videos in the mix. It’s all about learning and growing and I know I’ll get better.
Yes!! You’ll get there!
Keep posting even with zero engagement ❤❤
Thanks Nolan! Very inspiring, and just in time.
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent perspective. Very encouraging.
Thank you for sharing this.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for this! I just started out last week, and yeah, I KNOW it's uphill to get views and likes and subs, so I am staying positive!
You're doing great! Staying positive and persistent is key, and your hard work will pay off! 🙌
@@nolanmolt thank you!
But as you've mentioned, I'll just keep working on it and keep creating and uploading videos, hoping that one day I'll get that little push 😀
Most important, I'm enjoying creating content, and it's always great to read the nice comments some of my viewers post on my channel👍🏼
Yes, I've been at it for over a year, and there definitely seems to be a big element of randomness \ "blessed by the algorithm" ... even when I look at other more successful channels
@@sirwilliamelliott thanks, good to know I'm not the only one 😉 Good luck with your channel!
Just start. Just do it. I promise you won't regret it. Stay Uncommon!
Thanks for the good ideas!
Glad you like them!
This is what I need to see ❤ what an inspiring share
In these videos you talk about I thought that if you used material from other videos or TV you couldn't monetize but I think I was wrong... good info by the way 👍
To a person reading this together will succeed one day you will be great
Learn how to write in English and then make a comment.
Great advice! I totally relate to the ADHD start/stop and wish I had of been consistent
Yes!!
Right on man
So true just have fun with it and upload. Learn from mistakes as you go 💯
Exactly!
Very encouraging, thank you!
So glad!
Great advice. Thank you
You are so welcome!
