      Yep, I got the overheat stoppage on mine a few times when working it hard. Typically it's hard to work it hard though since they're not very torquey they tend to stall easilyish. If you have a sensitive hand you can balance on a knife edge and make them sweat. If I'm doing heavy work though I get the much bigger dewalt out as it has lots of power but is a lot less nimble, too.

    As a twenty five year tech specialist for a major battery supply company, I can tell you with complete confidence that with voltage drops like that, this impact wrench is an absolute battery killer. Aftermarket batteries will most definitely be out of the question for this tool. Milwaukee is gonna be swimming in battery warranties in about a year. You're gonna see some sort of battery redesign or a change in warranty policy to keep them from losing their Milwaukee shirts. Whoever you buy your tool and batteries from and you plan on buying this tool, be sure to have a full understanding on how they plan to warranty the tool and batteries, cause you're most likely gonna need to use it. My personal opinion is, this tool may be designed on the M12 platform, but this battery eating, heat generating monster really should have been designed for the M18 platform.

    I honestly think this is a good thing. Instead of releasing whole new battery line that is not compatible with the previous ones. We have old batteries that fit and do the job... just worse. Only problem is that it's not mentioned anywhere, needs to be on the packaging and should be on the tool showing what % of performance which battery brings.

  • @ptester1
    @ptester1 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

    great tests! What this tells me is the 2562 has a thirsty motor that sucks a lot of current. The high current draw causes a larger voltage drop due to the internal resistance of the battles and the high output batteries likely have better cells with lower internal resistance, allowing them to deliver more current without dropping the voltage. Regardless, power = Volts x current so the high current draw means a lot of power and thus a lot of heat generated.

  • @g8beast679
    @g8beast679 24 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

    They doubled the torque in the same body.
    There definately needs to be a compromise.
    More Power means more battery drainage mean less run time and more heat buildup.
    First few months is when manufacturers make money due to the hype, its also their fixing stage when products start coming back for unexpected repairs.
    Over a period of time it will stablize.
    In short, I will stick with my Gen 1 stubby. There is a reason there is a Standard Wrench, Mid Torque and High Torque while prolonging the life of the tool.

    Referring to your temperature examination, the m18 HO batteries are advertised as "running cooler". I've never really paid attention to it until stepping up to high demand tools like a chainsaw that overheat a normal XC battery. I know these HO batteries have better cells to perform better. Anyway, I assume the characteristic of running cooler is also shared by the m12 HO battery, thus why it had such a low temperature despite maintaining the highest voltage.

    2.5 - 23 seconds
    4.0 - 17 seconds
    5.0 - 22 seconds

    2.5: 9.12
    4.0: 8.82

    Milwaukee is currently setting themselves up for some pretty big problems in the future by pushing higher power tools with old platforms. Ryobi only got away with keeping the oneplus because they make consumer grade tools, and if a tool just isnt as powerful due to battery constraints then whatever. But milwaukee has already resorted to dual battery m18 (m36) tools. The m12 form factor only lends itself to being even more limited. Theyre going to need the tabless 18650s if theyre going to wanna make m12 work in the future.
    Lots of people are giving makita shit for how it is being handled, but moving to 36/40v for their flagship line of products is the correct choice here. And theyre expanding their 18v subcompact tool lineup to try and replace their 12v line, for the same reason.
    We are simply getting to the point where the amount of current these tools need to put down to keep up is getting absurd. The 12ah forge is capable of 300a. A milwaukee 1.5ah compact battery is capable of putting down 15a. These two batteries are fully intercompatible on the same platform.

    Kind of feels like a race to the bottom with these 12v tools.
    If it only produces that sort of torque with the larger 5AH battery, and has some serious voltage drop concerns with all the batteries and maybe battery longevity, then I'd generally just prefer a standard compact 18v at less cost and more battery compatibility.
    But hey, I'm not in a shop all day, so maybe someone wants to use a 12v like this for fairly high torque applications.

    I bet if you had a scope on these you'd see lower peaks with all of them. The fluke is averaging to some extent. It'd be nice if you had a serial interface from the meter to capture voltage vs time so you could graph it like TTC does with torque and compare apples with apples v vs t wise. Next time at least run a stopwatch so you can be consistent.

    • @WorkshopAddict
      @WorkshopAddict  23 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yes, a stopwatch is needed. The forst test with the 2ah battery the tool stopped. So on the next one I let it eat longer to see if the tool would stop. Normally, when I test batteries, I use drills or saws. This impact was a first for me and I learned a lot of what I need to do next time.

But unless you have the big battery that greatly changes the dynamics of the tool its not a small compact reliable 400ft lb impact. And the trigger switch is a deal breaker too. Pneumatic is still king if the hill.

      It's obvious there will be a difference, but when the difference is this large it should be advertised. Especially considering the price of batteries and the fact that you'll need several since the tool is so thirsty. Most people already have a bunch of batteries, that's the benefit (and the cause) of brand loyalty when it comes to cordless tools. They won't necessarily be prepared to shell out several hundred dollars extra.

    Nobody said anything about it til torque test channel called it out lol there were sooooo many “influencers” (people who were incentivized by Milwaukee) posting reviews on this and absolutely none of them felt the need to talk about the battery consumption and/or the fact that without the specific battery (5ah high output if I’m not mistaken) the impact wouldn’t be as great as it was made out to be. Don’t get me wrong it is impressive. I guess it’s to be expected that people who are incentivized are only going to hype the product and not point out the cons lol just the pros. There’s the problem with tool reviews nowadays. People are incredibly biased due to the fact they’re getting the hook up for a review to boost sales regardless of wether or not the tool is bad lol and the mode selection on the gen 2 seems like it sucks. Please fanboys don’t come for me 😅if you do at least you hopefully won’t be as bad as the HF extremists 💀

      Dave, TTC's test where you hammer for long periods of time is not the norm of use. I state that in this video. I also disagree a bit as we have shown in many videos that we can hear differences in the tool based on the battery used. In my normal use, I was able to get this tool to remove 500 ft lbs with a 2 ah battery. Hype on a tool like this is hard to avoid. It rocks.

    When you drop voltage you need more amperage to do the same work... and it seems like the H.O. 5AH battery is the only one that can give this angry little motor the juice it needs.
    Makes me wonder if it could perform better yet with a theoretical new battery that could supply even more amperage.
