When it comes to TH-cam, is it better to have your TH-cam content and streams in one channel or better to split your videos in one channel and livestreams in another?
I actually have a suggestion/question, what would be the chances that youtube buys out twitch, that way the youtube platform isn’t as cluttered as it is currently with the shorts
Can you edit the livestream on TH-cam, create a new video without changing the livestream? Basically want to create a new video from the livestream without destroying the livestream.
Can you do a video on how to monetize on TH-cam? Such as creating shorts, videos, lives, etc.. all of the details that the average person wouldn't know
Should I start live streaming first? Or should I start making youtube videos first? It seems like it makes sense to make youtube videos first since it's easier to discover.

Regarding ads on livestreams: I'd recommend not putting them on there. When you're still building your channel, you might be best served by treating livestreams as what business people call "loss leaders"- you're not going to make mad moolah off of them, but you're going to attract viewers, who will then go on to watch your videos. Livestreams are where you can give potential subscribers the best, most personal interactions with you, and ads can only really get in the way of that.
A caveat on the "reuse settings" feature - if you want to change the thumbnail *sometimes* it bugs out and doesn't show to viewers waiting, even though the thumbnail shows everywhere else. The only way to then fix it is kill the scheduled stream and recreate it from scratch. Hey Harris great vid, but one thing I would point out. Keep the ads ON, just remove the option of the ones that you can't skip. Ads on Twitch suck, they are not directed to people, they have 30 seconds and you can't skip. Ads on TH-cam people are used to it and they provide a great revenue overall. I started live streaming on TH-cam. I moved from twitch where I averaged 2-4 viewers to maybe getting 1 person tuning in. It’s a change but I’m hoping I get more people to tune in so the video is going to help me out!
Jayztwocents just recently put his weekly stream show on hiatus due to decreased viewership after every livestream. It still looks like the TH-cam algorithm has a problem with streams on a channel that is primarily videos. I suspect you were worried about that too and that's why you don't stream on Alpha Gaming, despite the advice in this video. Either way, great video. I didn't know about the auto start and auto stop features, that threw me off last time I streamed on youtube. Streamed on YT for years and they changed all that once I switched to Twitch in fear that algorithm was punishing my channel growth because of the aforementioned reasons. Though it turns out the algorithm is punishing my channel regardless and I don't know why.
I seen two other fairly large tech youtubers are getting horrible views lately too. It could just be a tech youtube problem. Especially since you litterally can't find anything they talk about typically. I've personally stopped watching 90% of tech videos myself unless it's the stream setups and whatnot because those are cool.
I haven't watched all of Jayztwocents rtfm weekly streams but I have watched most of them , and another factor to the decreased viewership after every livestream is that these livestreams are not heavily focused on tech like the what his channel is about
This happens to me as well. Every time I stream, my videos drop drastically in Suggested traffic. Takes about two weeks to recover. I’ve tested this multiple times. Live streaming 100% punishes your VODs.
7:30 I remember those days of 2020 that I was streaming in my other channel. I taught myself about the live-streaming studio and platform to control it.
This is so great! So I’m planning on steaming as a new content creator on TH-cam, this is perfect. I won’t have any Twitch baggage, but this is still an amazing starter guide
I find the streams help bring numbers in. I also like the fact that with when a video goes live, people will go watch your streams. Simply put: I really enjoy TH-cam for streaming :)
I actually prefer it as a viewer. I don’t get 8 ads for clicking in to a stream AND I can toggle back and watch from the beginning while they’re live or if I miss something
Sorry to double comment; I just thought of something. To have a generic thumbnail (that is all nice and pretty) for the go live… and then to adjust and change it after stream (tags and all) to garner it views when it goes eventually process… hmmmmm You got the wheels turning.
@@WarchiefPeebs live vids are only discoverable when they are being streamed so it’s almost a waste of time to put more effort into it retroactively. I schedule them and plug in tags and do the meta before I start stream, doesn’t take long. Once the stream ends, vods don’t get recommended or show up easily in search. Big streamers unlist them too usually so it’s not something causal TH-cam viewers would want to watch
@@cojodotgg I get that, I do. The only thing that keeps me from doing so is that these streams generate double their original viewership in the following days/week. It could be from traffic TO the channel, so something to look at analytically. But they do generate a future viewership (some very well)
Thank you so much for this. Been trying for a long time to become and affiliate on Twitch. I have the followers just not the viewers. Hoping this goes better than twitch did.
Harris love the content and have been a follower for some time. I do want to point out though when someone unlists their video and they are trying to hit the 4k watch hours, unlisted/private/etc videos that are not public are removed from that count. Something to consider for anyone looking to unlock the goal.
You talked about discoverability and how your streams appear next to videos. You also mentioned how you got a lot more attention on videos that got picked up by the algorithm. You didn't really go into how people who don't already know about your channel find live streams. I watch videos on here and stream on Twitch and this is one of the things that I'm finding difficult to figure out, both as a viewer and as someone considering the shift.
I'm so sick of twitch. TH-cam isnt even considered a "serious" streaming platform by many but they already have so many more options. I currently restream at the moment and because im making quality vids on my channels thats only about 1 year old, im seeing more and more people pop in via youtube. It makes sense since the community im building on YT through my vids will watch me on the same site. Once i hit 1k, i think i'll just stop using twitch. its just becoming more and more frustrating to use
Harris at the key points of my streaming journey you've dropped bombs that have redirected my path - this is one of those key moments. Thank you massively 🤘😋
THANK YOU !! i have been trying so hard to figure out why i couldn't go live when i was verified and you literally solved that issue in less than five seconds !!
@@Noolnavellem If I had to guess they probably bought fake subs, sorta like you can do on Twitch with fake followers that are bots. I live stream on Twitch quite regularly and the amount of bots I see that come in to my chat or that follow me is getting ridiculous now.
I started a TikTok account in July and have always planned to stream on YT! Just hit 15k on Tiktok and planning my first stream next week; this was perfectly timed thank you!
Harris, I would be very interested to hear about your opinion on how TimTheTatman is approaching live streaming on TH-cam since he has decided to keep his live streams on a dedicated channel. Are there cases where you think someone should go live on a dedicated streaming channel? Or should traditional videos also be released on a channel that live streams?
You are a beast for this, I’ve been considering doing some streaming and I’d rather do TH-cam simply for the fact that I’d wanna have everything on one platform. I’ve done a few livestreams but was always confused by so much whenever trying to figure it all out compared to Twitch. I’ll def be using this guide to help me get everything situated!
The delay seems a little longer while streaming on TH-cam vs Twitch. For me though, the quality seems better and easier to stream on YT with worse internet.
for me the quality is worse somehow, literally my stream settings are identical except on TH-cam I raised the bitrate to 10k but somehow my streams quality on YT is more pixelated than Twitch
Thank You for this video Harris! In my country TH-cam has finally enable Super Chats for creators. Been thinking about a move from Facebook Gaming to TH-cam Gaming. Thanks a bunch for this video!
Every time I stream on youtube, my views plummet and take about two weeks to recover. Every single time. Streaming hurts your channel, be careful with it
My one question is if you are posting Videos/Shorts and Livestreaming all on one channel, should you only post one of the 3 options a day? Or could you post a video in the morning and go live in the afternoon. Not sure if TH-cam works best with same day posts or you should keep everything on different days of the week.
I'd suggest experimenting and monitoring your analytics to see what works best. I imagine that, for this specific question, it's not a "one answer fits all" type of deal.
I would say that it also highly depends on how much you can output as good content. If you post all your stuff the same day and nothing the rest of the week, it’s not s good trade. Content dip is a real thing, at some points it is harder to build good content on a subject you already did 100 vids on. Space it out so that fresh content is posted regularly, you will do more mileage on the content you chose. It is better to have a schedule you can keep up with weeks after weeks than going hard one day and be burned out the next 3.
This is my own personal experience as a viewer and not a streamer (working on that) but it seems content is king. The more the better. I would guess based off other channels that posting once per day is better than posting 3 times in one day once every 4 days (if that makes sense) but ultimately in the long run as long as you have content being posted on a semi regular basis it shouldn't punish you. I would ultimately say post as soon as you have good content to post. Don't rush a video or short just to get it out. As you get better and better at your craft the frequency in which you post will likely increase. Now there are some channels that post every day or on certain days but I wouldn't aim for that. I would aim for making good content and post it when it's ready.
@@SudoYETI Quality over quantity has shown time and time again to be the better option in most cases. The better the content, the more people will tune in to watch it and want more of it instead of posting something EVERYDAY without too much thought about it probably won't get you far I would of thought. On the other hand, I think it depends on the creator and the type of content they publish to their fans, you know? I personally like Joe Rogan's Experience podcasts and I tune in to everything he uploads because I know it's going to be good content, if I started watching a relatively new channel that uploads random stuff it just wouldn't interest me and I would move on, hopefully that makes sense?
A simple question, even tho I have watched your videos for a while. Do you think its better to start streaming first on twitch reather than on youtube? Thanks. :)
I'm a relatively new streamer and I must say although twitch's community is great because everyone wants to help out the small streamers since they can relate, twitch may not be the better option. He's already given you a lot of reasons why youtube would be a good choice and I absolutely agree with him. I think building a following on a platform that will be more beneficial in the long run is the better move. I'm moving simply because they cannot fix a simple viewer glitch and I feel like it is slightly affecting my growth. I average at least 20-50 viewers a day when I do it correctly but my viewer count rarely goes above 3 or 4. I need a platform that is going to care and have proper support for their members. I will miss the small things like emotes etc because I've spent money and effort on them and it gives my viewers a better sense of belonging but I know for a fact that more of my viewers and audience right now have youtube, some of them don't have twitch or have admitted it is hard to understand so I think for me at least youtube will be a better move. Harris makes a lot of sense. If you want to eventually be able to turn people who arent even really into gaming or watching streams into a fan, I say use youtube. You have way more choice of content, possible discoverability, etc.
@@gangstalker The thing about YT is, how do you earn $ via livestreams only if Ads are very obnoxious. Also, monetization requires you to have a few more things
I just started streaming 3 days ago trying to get 500 subscribers and in this video you really touched on a bunch of points that I didn’t know about, thank you for the very informative video. Definitely earned a sub from me
Just saying, highly recommend NOT to unlist your streams, since streams will keep generating views, and watch time. Many big TH-cam streamers get milions if views from their Stream VOD, so highly recommend to keep them on your channel published.
I've been having so many thoughts about moving to YT from Twitch, but what scares me is the Affiliate contract and the loss of followers. "You don't really know what the topic of the stream is going to be, until you've finished the stream" - Sounds like a lack of planning! A huge pitfall of most streamers ;)
To be fair to Harris, I believe some streamers do this intentionally as it works better for them and probably prevents burnout to some degree based on a busy schedule consisting of long streams.

We need Raiding on TH-cam!💥
@VnD_iRevO_YT Done
Also, don't comment on your own video praising yourself and then pin it. At least create an alt account for that.
@@cojodotgg that’s awesome!!!
Sorry to double comment; I just thought of something.
To have a generic thumbnail (that is all nice and pretty) for the go live… and then to adjust and change it after stream (tags and all) to garner it views when it goes eventually process… hmmmmm
You got the wheels turning.
Super helpful info, especially for TH-camrs looking to get into live content! Sub'd!
THANK YOU !! i have been trying so hard to figure out why i couldn't go live when i was verified and you literally solved that issue in less than five seconds !!
not going to lie this is some very useful info everyone should know!
How do you have 140k subs without any videos?
@@Noolnavellem If I had to guess they probably bought fake subs, sorta like you can do on Twitch with fake followers that are bots. I live stream on Twitch quite regularly and the amount of bots I see that come in to my chat or that follow me is getting ridiculous now.
@@Noolnavellem what kinda crack you on? they have videos of Fortnite all the way from 2 years ago
Valkyrae, which was mentioned on the vod, also separated all her types of content on one channel each.
Who is here after hearing Ludwig switched and now is thinking of switching over too
You are a beast for this, I’ve been considering doing some streaming and I’d rather do TH-cam simply for the fact that I’d wanna have everything on one platform. I’ve done a few livestreams but was always confused by so much whenever trying to figure it all out compared to Twitch. I’ll def be using this guide to help me get everything situated!
Did anyone else conveniently have an advert when Harris was talking about ads on Twitch?🤣
Yet
Streaming hurts your channel, be careful with it
Thx good to know
Could it be that you're just worse at streaming than you are at making your bread&butter videos?
As he was talking about people leaving the live stream cause of ads, I got an ad
A guy I know posts one 15 minute to 20 minute video a day a day 2 shorts seem to work for him
This is awesome. Been thinking about the conversion for a couple months now. Its time to put in the work and finish up the switch. Thank you.
A simple question, even tho I have watched your videos for a while. Do you think its better to start streaming first on twitch reather than on youtube? Thanks. :)
You can’t guarantee your community will come over to TH-cam with you
If you haven’t started yet I would just pick a platform and stick with it
I'm a relatively new streamer and I must say although twitch's community is great because everyone wants to help out the small streamers since they can relate, twitch may not be the better option.
TH-cam
TH-cam, you never stop or start
@@gangstalker The thing about YT is, how do you earn $ via livestreams only if Ads are very obnoxious. Also, monetization requires you to have a few more things
I’m moving back to YT where I began my journey once I return back to the grind. Love that you posted this video Harris thank you
Okay... but what camera do you use though? Asking for a friend 👀
He has a video of his setup tour, he goes over what he has in that video
I just started streaming 3 days ago trying to get 500 subscribers and in this video you really touched on a bunch of points that I didn’t know about, thank you for the very informative video. Definitely earned a sub from me
Useful tips as always, thank you!
Creating playlists seems to be the best way to have it organized.
Just saying, highly recommend NOT to unlist your streams, since streams will keep generating views, and watch time. Many big TH-cam streamers get milions if views from their Stream VOD, so highly recommend to keep them on your channel published.
I'm hyped man!
I was thinking of making a hardcore Minecraft series and livestream it on TH-cam for a while... This is exactly what I needed to hear!
I've been having so many thoughts about moving to YT from Twitch, but what scares me is the Affiliate contract and the loss of followers. I've been wanting to make more videos for TH-cam to at least get more subs before moving. Long story short I am on the fence and already leaning on moving to TH-cam. Thank you Harris for these amazing videos, I appreciate the help you're giving us 💚
Dude, I’ve been where you are (were?) two months now. I’m just gonna do it.
I do hope you made the move and are finding joy and success!!
@@MaynesWorld Yeah I'm still on twitch and I'm already trying to set up a debut for YT, after the income leak, I'd rather have everything in one platform and focus on less... Hope you're doing well over there! (See you in the big leagues!)
I’m making the jump on Monday! I’m excited! I wish you well on your move!!
As always, super helpful. Thanks, Harris! Congrats on the newborn!
ive never been this early to a video ever!

@@POHreeg yeah lol
I started streaming for fun on TH-cam back in January and the first part of this vid triggered me. Although I do have to say that I’ve never touched the live panel on TH-cam and do everything through Streamlabs.
Still not monetized but starting to take it more seriously with vids and shorts so we’ll see if it’s as easy as you say. And I’m super excited about twitch streamers coming over to help populate the live pool here 😌
I mean big streamers move wont really do anything for smaller channels, they will just take more of the views, lol, such a move is only beneficial for the big streamer and youtube, its not like a small channel will be spotted more easy 😎
@@Integratedsful well more general stream viewers that will actually look up other streamers on TH-cam and building a streaming community here will be beneficial
I switched over last week and I'm really enjoying it. It's a fresh start and overall I like the TH-cam experience better. This video helped clear up a few things I had questions about too. Thank you!
I’m glad you put this out today because I’m streaming on TH-cam for the first time today
Awesome video!!! Very good information to dig in!!
I think you threw the YT sales pitch really good, and the ability to get your channel discoverable through shorts and stuff is really cool.
I am no longer afraid of streaming on YT. Will definitely try it out one of these days, thanks!!
I love this guy right away, I’m new to your vids and man I appreciate the effort in your visuals. Props to whomever doing this!
Thank you for such an informative video, tried TH-cam streaming once but got so confused with how to set it up compared to Twitch.
Best of luck to you and everyone here lookin to stream
Dude, thank you. I've been waiting for you to make this video. I've been trying to get my head around all of this stuff using a bunch of other videos. Nice to have it in one place from a channel I find easy to assimilate.
Thank you for this! I'm working on switching from Twitch to TH-cam, and this has been extremely helpful!
Both you and Devin Nash are my go-to sources of Truth for live streaming and growing my business around content creation. Thank you so much for what you do.
very very helpful - especially the request-to-live BEFORE you stream!
Much needed thanks for the info! Also thank you so much for stream beats! Just started editing videos and having these is so helpful!
Just made the switch so this video is super helpful and perfectly timed. You’re a legend Harris
Extremely helpful video!
Already did lives on TH-cam many times and didn't knew about a lot of those features.
I'm switching to TH-cam from twitch and I feel like this is gunna give me a good jump start for streaming so I say thank you for helping us out so much!!!!!
Saved this for when I have time today to watch and really soak in the details. Thanks for the vid mate!
You are a legend ! Twitch really went down imo in the last 6 months. I think you convinced me TH-cam is the way to go streaming wise
I de-affiliated my Twitch stream after 4 years this last week and I really appreciated the insight on cleaning up the videos tab. I had been making videos for years so it was quite a mess.
Thank you very much!
Perfect timing on the release of this video. Thanks Harris and the team!
I cannot thank you enough for this video. Great stuff. Very informative and very clear
This video is some of the best informative content I have seen in a long time. Can’t speak highly enough of shorts, roughly average a new subscriber ever 2/3 days but managed 80 in 1 day from a short. Great video 🚀
Another home run! I learned about so many details. Thanks for covering this!
I love your advice man! It genuinely helps, its easy to digest, and honestly emulating it works immediately even with a small channel like mine!
The irony of the ad placement on this video for me, the first occurring while Harris is talking about ads.
I'm a very very long time TH-camr (I used to use Google Video before the acquisition/before YT).
Anyway, I came here for the info you provided in part 1 of this video, as I'm a long time editor, but I've never done live content. I really value this info! Respect and thanks, fam.
Thanks man. This will help when I get back because I was going to look into getting started streaming on YT.
This is exactly what I needed to see! I am going to test out TH-cam for streaming. The setup of the stream and the features is a huge help! Thank you, Harris and Alpha Gaming, soon to be Senpai Gaming!
I have grown tired of Twitch for a variety of reasons. I think TH-cam is actually more beneficial for my type of content.
P.S. I have a separate channel that I plan to use for streaming not this personal one I am commenting from, in case people look at my content and go... yeah bruh you don't listen to Harris' advice do ya? lol
That’s it, I’m making the switch. Just need to finish up a few pieces to my loyal twitch fans.
But Thanks mate, your videos have helped me a MASSIVE amount. I really like that you don’t just focus the streaming content on just games. I stream art, and you have helped me out a great deal. So, thanks👊💐
This was so useful Harris, thank you. I’ve been dabbling in twitch but will definitely try live streaming here as well.
I’ve been thinking of running a test stream via TH-cam after being on Twitch for some time - this was all super helpful!
I appreciate this man and all your vids. They help so much even now, just noticed something crazy haha. this video was like EXACTLY a year ago, saw that when you were talking about the live notifications. Pretty dope bro

This was so helpful!!! We’re so excited to improve our channel using the things you mentioned, thank you for all your videos they’ve been such a blessing!
Your camera behavior skills are incredible. so much talent dude. goat'd
I had to stop streaming because of life stuff, but always wanted to find my way back...had a super small community on twitch (little less than 500) so I thought I would switch, currently on facebook but considering TH-cam dont really know atm, thanks for the vids Harris!
I love the irony of Harris talking about ads make people leave as an ad plays! Good video tho, really appreciate you making this video!
This video was great because I started off just live streaming on my channel and it took forever to grow then I stopped, made videos and grew way more than I imagined, but stopped streaming. So now with this info I’m for sure going to do streams, videos and shorts now too🙌🏼!
