Give me the old one. I used to have one. It had 240,000+ on it. Ran and drove fantastic. Sadly it was totaled by a careless driver who rear ended us. I miss it.

Agreed. It is known to last forever. In drier climates, you still see this vehicle quite a bit. I think the new one is still good. But I don’t think it will have the longevity. I think once the hybrid battery goes after 15-20 years, most will likely get scrapped unless the rest of the vehicle is in fabulous shape.

Minivans are what 95% of the U.S. population needs instead of buying a 3 row SUV. I prefer the Odyssey mainly because it is much easier to take out the 2nd row seats when needing to haul large loads.

If we bought what we needed we would all be driving kei cars.
We would have no sedans, coupes, V8s, V6s, sports cars, luxury cars, roadster. Nothing interesting.
People buy cars off emotion. Deal with it. Minivans are ugly to many people. Deal with it.

@@khakiswagMy family has a Camry and can't imagine it ever being a family car. The back seat is no spacious at all and I always hit my head. It's physically longer than my friends Highlander yet so much less thought out. It's not practical at all. The trunk is a waste of space as well. It's so low it can't deal with our poor roads or even many driveways thanks to hills.
We don't plan on ever getting a sedan again. They are all about style. No substance. Older sedans were much more useful in pictures I see. High ground clearance, easier to enter, better roof lines. Not the fake sporty look they all try today.

My family had a 2004 Ford Freestar. It was very similar to the odyssey, but the far back seats folded down like the new sienna. I like the look of the old sienna, especially with how the hood is not so ginormous. Having the hood slops down allows for much greater visibility, and therefore safety. I also think the simple headlights and rear lights on the old model look better that the over-stylized lights on the new one; that's a gripe I have with most new cars nowadays. They try to look too fancy and it just takes away from the practicality of big round lights and AMBER turn signals.

While Honda didn't offer awd, the 3rd row folded flat into the floor (1 piece bench) and stored the spare in a floor compartment behind the driver's seat. One thing I don't like about the new Sienna is the center row is not easily removeable to carry things like 4x8 sheets of plywood or an air mattress for car-camping.

It would be normally go on the left side and there would be a different plastic cover rather than the one in the video that holds the Toyota manual. Minivans became popular about the same time car seats and seat belt use was mandatory. Prior to mandatory seat belts/car seats multiple children could ride in a car. Particularly for short distances to school, scouts, sporting events, etc. This was useful when taking your children and neighbors, friends, etc. Injuries and deaths due to road accidents decreased after mandatory restraints. Minivans followed with seats for seven or more at a reasonable cost. Each seat with a restraint. A positive result of government regulation.

That 1997 had a hell of a lot better ride and was way quieter on the road with less road noise. It had a drivetrain that can last easy 500k miles or more if maintained while the new Sienna has very loud road noise issues and a stiffer ride. It also has a lot more complexity to the engine as well. I do not see any of the new Vans making it past 300k miles unless it is all Highway and strictly maintained. I would take that old one in a heartbeat over the new one. I can add Apple car play and features like that to the old one vis after market stereos.
