That said, here are my conflicted thoughts on season one of Boba.
    What do you think?

I think they need to build off Boba telling Fennec that they aren’t cut out for the ruler life and allow him to explore the galaxy in season 2 in Slave 1, with a more inspiring antagonist

I liked the show but you're right we lost some of whom Boba really is. I think he should've had more violent outbursts as in
more of the outbursts which we would have shown he was actually struggling with the change. Because if you think about it
changing who you are at your core is so obscenely hard that most people won't even try. You also asked the same question
I did, which is what happened to the female Tuskan. I think her and some rogue Tuskan's she had gathered would have been
more suited to backing up Boba than the Mod's or Freetown residents.

A cool end credit scene for me would’ve been seeing Cad Bane being rescued by Todo and taken aboard his ship. I feel like Cad Bane is an interesting enough character that he could have his own show especially with the amazing Corey Burton and it doesn’t appear like it’s that difficult to make him appear in live action like it’s just a mask.

Him breaking the tree branch and making a new life , I think is just Disney breaking away from good Star Wars .
Great actors and actresses but terrible story and script.
But definitely down for season 2 hopefully we’ll see Mace.

Problem here is living with Dogma. This brought Star Wars unbounds - yes, not perfect or even great as a series, yet awesome and serves as a springboard a total success for setting up the future. Everyone got old, Boba not my Fett from memory but as you age things change.. lousy message but true. This doesn't outshadow the awesome moments we've waited years for with every charactor. Cad Bane with old light blue face makes me thirst for a Powerful Thrawn with augmented deepfake otherworld face glow. Tatooine was the start of the dream, its chapter can be closed with Boba now.

The closing scene of Mando Season 2 was I think the last time Boba was truly Boba. This is how he would've taken the throne if that scene were in TBOB: He would walk in, Fennec would've taken out all the guards and security by that point because she's just better. Boba would walk to Bib, immediately remove his helmet, say he's Boba Fett, and ask him for that chair. Bib would begin to protest, but Fennec would load her blaster and he would be scared into silence before getting up and scurrying away or tripping into the Rancor pit. Boba would then sit in Jaba's throne still helmetless, and with a tired sigh.

Here is what I think. I have heard there were some reshoots, which is normal. I've also heard that Rodriguez cut a lot. With that knowledge I have my own theory. The Book of Boba Fett, had not enough material to fill all the chapters. This is where The Mandalorian got more story than originally planned, maybe even getting some of the narrative from season 3. I assume Grogu's return wasn't even planned for the finale. It would have made more sense it was Boba was meant to calm the Rancor. He is an experienced beast handler and it would have impressed the locals even more. That said, overall I enjoyed it the Book of Boba Fett. The plot was good, just how the story was told, was a bit messy at times.

No I think everyone misses the big point is that grogu is a foundling and a Jedi when Luke presented him with the choice of being and mandolorian he chose the second now what I think there there trying to do with grogu Mando and boba is reform a new mandolorian empire with grogu being exactly like tarre vizla the first mandolorian Jedi the rancor was a symbolic meaning for the order coming together and there are many instants were Jedis have been able to take crazy beast I’m sure the story will unfold it’s only the first season

I would have been so much cooler if, when the Pikes took over Boba's (Jaba's) Palace and accidentally released the Rankor. The Rankor kills off all the Pikes at the palace, leaving it ready for Boba to return later. The Rankor then goes to the city creating havok for both sides and Boba confronts the Rankor, which the Rankor is familiar with him. Boba mounts the beast (for the first time) and saves the day...and as you said, in sight of the townsfolk which exemplifies not only his power but him showing respect even to a beast.

@@vincentmartinez222 A lot of this could’ve been explored in mando season 3 though. Like why should we care about the Jedi order in this story that had nothing to do with Jedi up until they shoehorned them into episode 5 and 6?

I think the original plan was for Mando s3 to follow a month or two after book of Boba, then they delayed it for a year. Maybe they moved the initial episodes of s3 into book of Boba, or re-edited the episodes that carried on the Boba story, it felt to me like book of Boba had a natural end at episode 4.

I think that if they wanted to go with the “Boba going soft” narrative they should have had Cad Bane early on in the season. Have him represent what Boba was before: his dark past, his killer mentality, his ruthlessness. I think that duality would have worked well to elaborate on Boba’s internal conflict.
It wouldn’t have solved all of the show’s problems, but I think it would have been better. I just can’t help but feel like Cad Bane’s narrative potential was so unnecessarily wasted.

    • @FPSTyler1Clips

My biggest issue is that rushing Mando and Grogu's reunion in a show that wasn't meant to be about them also does a HUGE disservice to The Mandalorian as its own series, not just BOBF. Imagine, in the future, a casual viewer watching Mandalorian for the first time and they go from Season 2 straight to Season 3. It's going to be so jarring and confusing to see Mando let go of Grogu only for them to be together again immediately in the premier of next season. Sure they'll recap what happened but still; being forced to watch ANOTHER show to learn about what happens to the ones in the original is such a wonky storytelling choice.
That being said I enjoyed the show enough. It was just weirdly structured and pretty sloppy. And I just didn't like how a third of the season is about other characters. I was really hoping to see Boba's crew from Empire Strikes Back show up, or even his crew from the Clone Wars. Hopefully they'll see the criticisms and not make the same mistakes again. I hope they give Boba another season to redeem the show.

It felt like they didn’t know whether to make this Bobas own thing or just a side mission/story to the overarching series that is The Mandalorian which is something you can’t do with a character like Boba Fett. • @SuperDoggy99

The main problem with the Boba "going soft" story line is that we never really learn why. The show didn't show us any of the trauma that caused him to re-think his life choices. I thought we would see some pivotal events in his past--someone he cared about being killed--and learning, over and over, that revenge, killing, etc. doesn't change anything. This show gives us nothing of that. Instead, we get the "Tusken Montage" which, while it serves the purpose of giving Boba some kind of perspective and motivation for change, it doesn't "feel" at all like something that he would completely change his character for. The show failed on many levels, starting with this .... the whole "Mandalorian Imposition" thing just ruined the second half completely. Sure, it was fun and great fan-service--and full of "wow" moments--but this was SUPPOSED to be a show about Boba Fett ... What we got was a show that was so completely unbalanced and terribly written, that the only thing it really accomplished was setting up Mandalorian, season 3. We are not even left with a desire to see a second season of Boba Fett; they watered-down the character and story so much, that the only feeling one has after watching the finale is ... "meh".

    • @lrlong1285
      @lrlong1285 2 ปีที่แล้ว +24

Explain why Boba Fett went soft? Becasue he's older. Becasue he experienced the formation of a bond with a group of people that the galaxy as a whole disrespects - the sandpeople. He's been made to see that a life killing for money is not as rewarding as a life building relationships. It's not explained to you becasue it is so overtly implied... they can't explain everything to you like it's a 30 minute cartoon.

    • @SuperDoggy99
      @SuperDoggy99 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

@@lrlong1285 And that's precisely why the writing fails. The Tusken camp "interlude" feels incredibly contrived, and the implied notion that suddenly, now, just because Boba is old, he's able to see life differently, is absurd, even laughable.
He spent all that time in the sarlaac pit, being digested, but he somehow comes out of it having developed a conscionce? And then we're supposed to believe that a humbling by some native Tuskens is enough to change a lifetime of training, hunting, and killing? It's just lazy writing, ripped from Dances With Wolves, The Last Samurai, etc. ... movies that did it much better, with only a couple of hours of screen time.
The flashbacks could have shown Boba wanting revenge, failing, and learning that he's not as good as he once was .. and the flashbacks could have been connected to something he actually cares about. Exploring Boba's life before the sarlaac pit would have been more interesting, and would have set up a natural, organic reassessment of his life choices.
The Tusken interlude is completely undermined by the fact that there is no real connection with them, apart from this implied regret, guilt, etc. He dances around with a gaffi stick, does a little ceremonial "going native" montage, and that's all the character development we get. It's such a missed opportunity.
What they did with Boba for the rest of the show, though, was an exercise in stupidity. They turned an action-oriented, self-driven, self-motivated, self-actualizing character with agency into a passive, bloated idiot who can't make a decision without consulting five of his friends first. It clashes utterly with the man he was and should still be, and, again, feels contrived and lazy. This is why the show simply did not work, and also why Din Djaron, "Mando", comes out as the "better" Boba Fett.
Din never takes his helmet off, he's imposing, he's a man of action, he has a code, etc. Din Djaron has taken on all of the qualities that made Boba Fett interesting, and it shows. The Stark contrast between the characters is even jarring when they're on screen together.
Meanwhile, Boba Fett is just some tired, brain-addled old man, who walks around scowling at people and mugging for the camera. He doesn't even know what's going on half the time, relying on Fennec to play "caregiver" while he straps on another pair of Depends.
Also, the notion of a "noble" crime lord is just dumb. Why not just have Boba liberate the place, declare Tatooine off limits to the cartels, and give the government back to the beaurocrats?
We're supposed to believe that Boba ... a former man-of-action ... wants this "noble" crime lord life? How laughable ... and stupid.

It’s not the lack of a “big bad” that makes this show struggle. It really isn’t, and frankly, we don’t need every single Star Wars show/trilogy to take that same path - it’s a little played out. It also doesn’t need more factions from lore or even more character threads, that would just make it harder for less diehard audiences to understand it. Having the Pikes be the biggest villain is fine.
No, IMO you hit the nail on the head with your first comment - it feels disjointed. Between flashbacks and episodes devoted to other characters…it hops all over the place but never really takes the time to develop any single character thread.
What made Boba aspire to take over the Hutt empire specifically? Who knows, we don’t really see. The Pikes…what are they up to? They don’t just exist on Tatooine…right? A MUCH better way to use those episodes which focused on other characters would have been to show us the leaders of the Pike Syndicate, develop their ambitions, use them to help flesh out Boba’s character. That’s just one example and there are many more like it. If Cad survived, they should have teased that in the end credits, hinting at a budding rivalry between two fearsome figures.
Instead the writers got distracted with Luke, Asoka, Grogu, and the Mandalorian arc. They got distracted by the “mods” - they only needed to exist to save Fennec. We didn’t need them to have a central role at all. A good test for whether or not a character needs to be there is replacing them with someone else. If the unique traits of that character don’t add much, their absence seems fine. Nothing is lost by making the “mods” just regular drifters on the streets of Tatooine. Hell, they could have used ex-stormtroopers now unemployed because no one will hire them. That’s WAY MORE INTERESTING.

Like…imagine an episode where he takes Slave One to recon the Pike Syndicate on their home world but someone sees the iconic ship and it blows his cover of “being dead.” Then he has to deal with the consequences of the galaxy knowing he is alive, namely Cad Bane being sent to track him down. Like…damn, I’d watch that.

    • @phishphood423

@@vinced7618 Absolutely. We should have seen him try to go back to his bounty hunter ways after the Tuscans are killed, before he decides to take over Jabas empire. Perhaps this is when he personally runs into the Pikes for the first time in the series, during a job where they try to screw him. This makes him mad and he begins to see how he has been taken advantage of. Then when he meets Fennec he has a real reason to kill Bib Fortuna and take over - he’s tired of being played. But the Pikes are mad and see an empire run by Boba as a threat, so they send Cad Bane to track down Boba, and gradually begin to take over Tatooine. I’d much rather have seen that story, even if we still got one episode where Mando built a new ship and then came to help. It would have made sense in the arc.

He's left for dead, maybe shot by Bane in a standoff and assumed to be dead, then saved by someone we wouldn't expect. Maybe the mission is on Dathomir (first live action would be amazing) and is saved by Merran with some sort of ritual! Then the near death cut-throat experience and realization that age is creeping up forces him to go more straight and that's what sends him back to Tattoine to search for his armor.
You could have had the exact same story with the Tuskans and if there were 3 episodes of Boba being old-school Boba and giving him an actual arc. Then the final standoff when Boba is re-armored would have meant so much more.

I really enjoyed the episodes directed by Bryce and Dave, which coincidentally, had less than 40 seconds of Boba Fett, but it just goes to show that maybe Jon Favreau should have changed a few things about how he wrote the character for this show. this show was supposed to give Boba the spotlight he deserves after 40 years of being a laughing stock falling into the Sarlac pit by a blind man becoming nothing but a joke. Only the people that read the comics truly understood how special he was and this was the show to right that wrong, but they dropped the ball and the show only confirmed to all the fans that he was indeed a total clown after all. To have another season just to fix the season that was supposed to have already fixed boba is just undeserved. Boba does not deserve another season. In my opinion, he's better off being a cool-looking side character in another Mandalorian's show.

I definitely agree. You hit the nail on the head. It definitely felt like a general star wars show. They could have done much more to show Boba Fett as a deeper character. They started good but it would have been better if Boba had something under his sleeve. I always thought Boba would have been a master strategist and battle tactician. Instead he seemed to have almost no plan and rely on everyone else for direction. Listening to others doesn't mean doing what they tell you. It means using they're information and expertise to formulate a master plan.

For me, I felt like the show was really starting to pick up after episode 4 once we completed Boba's flashbacks and he was completely healed. I felt Boba was really going be more involved but instead, we paused all that buildup and got side tracked with Mando, Grogu and Luke for two episodes. As much as those episodes were well done, I feel like if we used those episodes to instead stay on track what we were building to, we could've had:
    - Cad Bane introduced earlier.
    - Boba and Banes relationship elaborated on which would've significantly upped the tension and impact of their confrontation.
    - show Boba actively engaging in the action more outside of just the final episode
-More than likely bring in another faction like the Hutt twins or Black Sun or Crimson Dawn as Theory said. The Pykes were ok but it definitely needed just a tad bit more besides them.
-I'll even take some moments of him interacting with the people of Mos Espa besides the people working at the casino. Let's develop this town a bit more! At least then we can actually feel a connection to who we're fighting for outside of just mentioning it.
Regardless, I still enjoyed the show and I'm happy to see more live action Boba Fett. Looking forward to a season 2 if they decide to greenlight one!

Luke told Grogu he had to choose. He also told him that he has such a long life that most people he meets are just for a short time which to me also gives Grogu an opportunity to make the best of the time he has with people who he cares for Din Djarin. As Luke said he wasn't necessarily training Grogu but helping him to remember. But it does seem as if Grogu needs training to build up his stamina, he also has some seemingly mental blocks stopping his use of power and communication. Another thought on Grogu leaving is that Luke also left to save his friends and left his training with Yoda. He also went back to his training. And as all I have talked about is everyone except for Boba it shows that the show lost its way, even though there were many parts that I enjoyed.

I agree, but it should have been drawn out a little more to really show the longing between Grogu and Mando - to have them reuniting within a few episodes with no heart-wrenching decisions or adversity was just lazy and pandering. It reminds of Once Upon A Time, where Emma had to leave Storybrook and lose all her memories of everyone she loved - it was a huge dramatic moment and heartbreaking to watch - and then 5 minutes later they were working to undo it. Luckily No Way Home stuck the landing and didn't cave in for a happier ending.

I'm sure they made Jon Favreau write Luke out of the finale. There is no sense at all in sending a baby as if it was a parcel, when Luke had nothing to do in his academy with his 0 students. Luke would have been there during the battle helping with the pykes because there would have been a lot more of them and he would have been the one who dealt with the Rancor. Who are the ones who makes these kinds of decisions? Kathleen Kennedy? I don't think it's good spending all those chapters looking for a Jedi to give Grogu to and then having him again when Mando can't take care of him and Grogu is in danger because the remains of the Empire are looking for him. I don't get all these inconsistencies. And I think Jon Favreau is a wonderful writer. This is not coming from him.

but we can have 3 movies about the death star. 3 more movies about the rebel alliance (which episode 6 made seem like we where done with that whole thing). Episode 7 was basically a repeat of 4 lol. Nah This franchise has no problem with repetition, I totally agree with you though about your opinion on Boba being underwhelming. I just honestly don't see the problem with having Mando and Boba have similar characters but slightly different. One is focused on honor and code, the other just cares about making money and watching his ass. How are these characters the same lol (not saying you are, just puting the thought out there). Mando could have tried to convince Boba to bring honor to his father by returning to the Mandolorian way or creed and Boba could have voiced how he felt the creed betrayed his father or something. Anything. That literally would've been more interesting than what we got. But ya i totally agree with you though, wasn't happy about Fett's behavior/character. Not the cold hearted, sharp, killer the mountains of star wars lore painted him to be. I constantly felt like he was just not clever or sharp at all. Tricks pulled over his head that his right hand man phenik could see coming??? he's Fett. Your not sneakin up on him while sleeping, bacta tank or not. Mando pulled his gun out in 2 secs when ahsoka snuk up on em. But dis nigga Fett is comin down stairs in his bath robes after a scrap????? nah. Not Fett. Just a Moron. lol, Puts his entire ship into the mouth of a creature that just nearly killed em, when he could've just blasted the damn thing for good measure when he showed up... hell that would've portrayed the Fett we know... that would've displayed a killer's instincts (which he clearly lost in that pit looool). instead he peers inside like an absolute tool box and like he didn't just barely make it out the first time... in front of phenik (who was more resourceful than he was in his OWN SHIP). JUST EMBARRASING.... pathetic ha. Needed the power rangers, his 2 man army of pigs, and phenik to solve everything for em. not good, but that's just my opinion.

I think they missed out a lot on bringing back old scenes from when he was a young boy (which they did a bit), young adult, mature adult, and now an old adult (present time). I would love to know what he was up to in his prime, to see the ruthless Boba that we all know of, and bringing that into live action would of been great, rather than bringing in some characters who quite frankly are irrelevant to the "Book of Boba Fett", such as the power ranger bikers, etc. I think the final episode should be where Boba takes over the throne from Bib Fortuna, which then takes us to a potential season 2. If they wanted to take Boba's character in this direction, they should have looked to Wolverine as an example.
Logan was a living weapon who killed hundreds, but once he escaped he became.... More centered, more calm, more compassionate.
But at the same time, he was still ravingly badass. He was still tough as nails. He was still a highly effective super soldier.
Boba is still a good fighter....But he comes across as such a wimp here. Maybe if he had tolerated less disrespect and been less afraid to bounce those who talk down to him off a wall... That one major tweak alone could have saved it.

Boba was always a place holder, a tool, or a vehicle for revenge in that series and all he was really looking for was acceptance and family. I love how this series finally gave that to him. I also think it gives important lessons about found family.
Further, I think this series suggests that while Michale was more scary and maybe more powerful, Vito was a better GodFather and that is whom they patterned Boba after.
Finally, I agree that this series has a lot to sat about destiny and choice. I see that this show really is about the choice for Mando though. If he grows he will become a leader like Boba. If he doesn't he will die alone in the sand like Cad Bane. I also agree he isn't dead.

I think they made a mistake having two episodes that were Fett-less and focused completely on Mando. My initial thought was if they had just made this series focused on Fett but sprinkled in characters from Mando that it would have made more sense. Then going forward, they could alternate shows each year/six months. Then in Mando S3 you could have an episode where Mando either comes back to Tatooine or has a holo call with Boba to help him on a mission. Then in Fett S2 the same thing happens with Fett meeting up with Mando some where in the galaxy. Let's build the SW universe and go to other planets other than Coruscant and Tatooine. Boba could help Mando start to unite Mandalore and rebuild the planet and strengthen their society.

That episode where it literally solely focused on Mando and the dark saber, they could have given half the episode to Fett, or had it go between Mando and Fett's story, but they did a whole episode. Not only did they do a whole episode, the episode after that still felt like it was centered around Mando more than Fett. I get that the two stories cross over, but that should be it, cross over one and others stories without having either one of them steal the limelight. It's as if they doubted how well The Book of Boba would be received so they chucked in the Mandalorian as a fail safe.

They did not fit the tatooine environment at all. Then after that, introduce Cad Bane way earlier and then the rest of the show be Boba, Din, Fennec and Krrsantan vs Cad Bane and the pykes and maybe introduce other bounty hunters that maybe could work for the pykes, like Bossk. Most importantly, save the Luke episode for Mando season 3. You can save the episode with Mando going to see the armorer because it would’ve been a nice transition to how boba reached out to Din when he needed muscle. I’ve got mixed feelings with the plot too, but everyone is comparing this finale to Mando season two’s, which is unfair in my eyes. It’s unfair because Mando had a whole separate season of explaining, and a head start towards his huge summit of a Hero’s journey. Boba and Jango have a solid four minutes of screen time combined. So yeah it was off, and the Cyberpunk gang needs to be purged, but I have hope for the next season. They’d better not fuck up Kenobi and Ahsoka though. Don’t do it again Disney. The Book of Boba Fett had two problems at its core:
    1. We’ve had forty years to imagine how cool Boba Fett could be and everyone wants something different
    2. Star Wars has quickly become the quest for more spinoffs. Like every DCEU movie of a few years ago they forego focus on the characters we came for to instead try and build anticipation for what the guests may or may not be doing in their own future series.

I loved the show and was excited for every episode because this is the best Star Wars we’ve had in a long time.
That being said my excitement dwindled after each episode not because the content was bad but because it wasn’t really about boba. If I ordered a steak and I get chicken it doesn’t mean I don’t like chicken I was just expecting steak.
I didn’t like the role that they gave Boba, he was a follower to Fennec and the mods. This is Boba ducking fett.... asking advice of rando thugs and a master assassin that isn’t really established and feels like a Mary Sue. She was in every episode as well I’m pretty sure while Boba wasn’t.
You can have honor and be ruthless. That’s pretty much what it means to be mandolorian. We need a ruthless boba who took risks and intimidated on screen like he did in mando S2 and the last episode of TBOBF. Mods were meh and didn’t really fit the environment, replace them with krasantin and freetown crew or more gamorians.
I found myself actually saying “who is the main character in this show because it isn’t Boba...”
I agree w theory this is a great Star Wars show but I think it was sub par boba show. I did like the tusken story arc and rancor was dope af.

Enjoyed your review very much. I actually enjoyed BoBF very much. But I agree with you that they could have done more with Boba and Fennec's character. Just a thought - when R2D2 was telling Peli that he was in a rush, it hinted that something happened that made Luke send him back to Mando quickly and he needed to head back urgently. Also, Luke's conversation with Ahsoka did hint Grogu didn't really need training. He needed remembering. And Ahsoka told him that sometimes the student had something to teach the Master. I think Mando Season 3 could provide some answers. I'm sure Disney executives will be listening to your comments and everyone in this thread. Keep it up. Truly enjoyed your TH-cam channel.

Love MNW - she was absolutely AWESOME in Agents of Shield. Her character in this series, though, spent 90% of her dialogue giving us exposition, or repeating things we already knew. Plus, something was off in her action scenes - her fight scenes in Agents of Shield were soooo much better. Tragic

Absolutely agree with the dialogue. I still like Shand, but I think it's because how AoS got me attached to "The Calvary". IDK about the fight scenes though; they felt fine to me 🤷‍♂️

Dialogue was garbage overall. I actually felt bad for some of the actors having to read that script.

100 agree she felt forced on us at times and made to be bobas enforced which in turn made me feel like she was actually the main character.

The dialogue really needed some work in this show. The only quotable thing that was said in this show is “like a Bantha” and that’s only because it felt funny how out of place it was. I swear Mando, Cobb, and Cad had better dialogue than Boba and Fennic did.

Boba Fett.... I feel like there is still a lot on the table and look forward to a second season. He is a wonderful character and I want to see that fleshed out much more.

Boba was always my favorite “villain” besides Vader. This Boba was unrecognizable. I understand they needed to humanize him more, which is most likely why he constantly removed his helmet, but I just don’t know. This show felt very weird, the pacing was strange, even though I felt episode 5 and 6 were genuinely the best Star Wars we’ve had in forever, it shouldn’t of been in this show.

How much have you seen of Boba Fett? Have you seen his arc in the clone wars? If you have this comment makes zero sense. If you haven't. Go watch it.

@@maxpowers4436 His arc in the clone wars? Are you talking about child Boba Fett? Lmao, he's a kid, you expect him to have the same morals and attitude towards life as he did as a kid? No. I'm talking about Boba Fett in the OT, in the comics, in pretty much any game he was in, not the same character, He's been Disney-fied.

I agree completely, I believe the show had some missed opportunities, but all in all it was enjoyable, with some truly awesome moments. I do feel the Mando/Grogu portions shifted the focus, but I also think it mirrors Boba's involvement in Mando season 2, therefore foreshadowing future crossover between series. Also, no chance Cad Bane is dead. Love ya, brother... love the channel, Keep killing it!!
