I was failing NGL for like a good 2 hours but not the slightest frustration. This fight feels extremely fair and when you get hit its 100% your own fault
They also applaud when he starts his bullet hell. In Nightmare King fight, the crowd doesn't respond to when he splits, but their eyes glow, they sit up straight, and they start quivering when he does his bullet hell. Nice touch, though this game is filled with nice touches.

Isn't Nightmare King harder than the Radiance? Still, from every extremely har thing (White Palace, The Radiance, Trial of the Fool) Nightmare King is my favourite.
Real Shmooie my recommendation is using mark of uun and dash master to make it so you move quicker, quick heal as well. There’s some attacks where you can legit heal under them (mainly his fireball attack).

Yep. Grimm was added in the second game free expansion, and is by far the hardest non pantheon boss. He is however by far the most enjoyable challenge in this game. He is the most fair boss in the entre game. He never has overlapping attacks, he can be easily telegraphed, and he does no rely on RNG for his attacks. However, his speed is extreme and fighting him cannot be done in any other way than getting good. It Simply has nothing you can exploit to make it easy mode, no where where you can be truly safe. Only you, him, and the fiery dance of the ritual.

Yeah, I was caught by surprise when on my third try Grimm was like "nope, suffer from my wraith!" and suddenly inflated. First try I lost on dreamnailing him to death, trying to get all the lines. Well... ty Jiji. Second time he twice caught me by dashing after landing, then impaled me with his cape, then roasted from above. Third time I decided to attack him at first opportunity...
If you weren't supposed to do something, the game wouldn't allow you to do it. Also I'm pretty sure the Hardcore version of the track only plays when you hit him while bowing. Not sure though.

When you enter the tent and hear the accordeon that chills your shoulders. you meet grimm and take part of his ritual. at the almost last part he wants to "dance" with you and the heavy organs come out and the epic "dance" starts. after that the second "dance" turned into a fight of Nightmare and fear. Don't worry Yall. He actually wants you to kill him. That's what the ritual is, his body being killed, the Grimmchild absorbing his essence and being born anew through the Grimmchild. The kid is basically a young clone of him to hop into.
my headcanon is that the ritual is his way of starting more troupes. when grimm was a child he was walking and the new child is airborne so when someone else activates the torch in the future maybe a fully grown grimmchild will be there. and i dont think grimm dies, but teleports away. why else would the tent dissapear?

Specifically a Cinnabar moth and a Red-backed jumping spider (look them up it's uncanny!! 😮) moths in Hollow Knight are shown to have the power to shape and travel through dreams right and spiders ARE considered terrifying creatures, the stuff of Nightmares if you will... that might explain some of Grimm's powers too because creatures like the Weavers are mentioned to be able to make spells using silk, so who knows? 🤔 I mean if you look at the Nightmare Heart it looks like it has threads, wires and patchwork ... Maybe that's connected? 🤔
It looks easy for the watchers who didn't play the game, but for me NKG is by far the toughest boss in game, and way harder than any Cuphead bosses and Souls bosses. The only exception being the completely optional +10 difficulty Zote the Mighty which is basically just tweaking the numbers and make all his moves one shot. (Every bosses can be that difficult if you tweak them into doing 9 damage, so I do not consider this real difficulty. )
I died to NKG way more often, but I still consider GPZ+4 a more frustrating fight. I agree, Hollow Knight is a bit more challenging than Souls games. Although I probably still died more to the DLC bosses of Bloodborne and the Genocide final boss of Undertale and consider them to be more difficult.
Well, it certainly is true for me. I had more trouble with NKG and GPZ than any Souls boss ever. Bloodborne is a whole different story though. Both BB and HK are more fast paced than DS, so I can see people saying they perceive it as more challenging. Doesn´t mean DS was never hard of course.
That´s a pretty weak argument. Any boss can be made artificially difficult by messing with the health and damage sliders. We are talking about what´s available in the vanilla playthrough. Grey Prince Zote is a different matter because you only get all unlockables in the game if you beat him four times.
I love how the boss name causes your screen to go black momentarily. As if to say that you cannot grasp the true form of his attack. By the way, that wasn't just Grimm glancing at you, that was bowing like a true actor. I even love how attacking him while he's doing that activates a hardmode version of the fight, as if to penalize you for your rudeness. Or did you do that on purpose just to challenge yourself?
After I beat the Nightmare King, I couldn't help but appreciate how fun it was. The use of the Nail Arts helped alot, since almost every hit was a charge attack.
The animation of the grimmkin clapping is just adorable. But the crowd in the Nightmare King boss fight... They actually look like they're performing some sort of sadist ritual or something. A wee bit disturbing, to say the least.
God i love how the music changes in the first fight depends on what he’s doing. it’s barely there when he splits, gets a drum roll when he reforms, and that fucking double bass during the bullet hell portion makes me feel very nice

The first fight isn't that bad, after a few tries you will be able to dodge all his moves reliably but i recommend using nail arts as the boss teleports after 1 hit anyway and Nail arts do x2.5 of your damage. The second fight on the other hand is extremely tough and fast. It is actually harder than the first ending's final boss of the game
[PR]Speedy27 ಠ_ಠ Ironically defeating the Nightmare King is the bad ending for the grimm troupe. The good ending is banishing them and never defeating the king.
I think it's to do with the Grimmchild. If you dream nail Grimm he compliments the Wyrm (aka Pale King) on the current Hollow Knight as the perfect vessel for the heart of Grimm. if I had to guess I would say by defeating Nightmare King he'll be reborn through the Grimmchild as part of the ritual. Then the whole thing starts all over again.
Yellow Pikmin88 I'm trying to figure out the lore of the grimm troupe. What i have so far is that the grimm troupe are nightmares that are embodied by scarlet flame instead of light. The grimm troupe appear when a kingdom is dying and partake in a ritual of feeding the scarlet flame of the dying kingdom to the next nightmare king. All members of the grimm troupe are trapped with the current king whether willingly or not.
This was actually the first Hollow Knight video I ever watched. This boss was the first thing that I saw about this game. When I watched it for the first time, I thought he bowed down to you, because only then you can read his mind (I saw the dream nail slash when he bowed and I thought he can be only heard whenever we strike it with that sword.). I did't know what he was saying, cause I was only studying English. But now that I know badically everything about this game, I can say that he was a though, but a simple foe to beat.

Pretty much. Radiance does get easier with this DLC if you choose to Banish instead of Ritual, due to the 'Carefree Melody' Charm.

my headcanon is that the ritual is his way of starting more troupes. when grimm was a child he was walking and the new child is airborne so when someone else activates the torch in the future maybe a fully grown grimmchild will be there. and i dont think grimm dies, but teleports away. why else would the tent dissapear?

he appears to be a spider of some sort. maybe he was from deepnest and got his powers from having too many nightmares. eventually in the nightmare he went up to the heart and absorbed its power. just a theory though

Specifically a Cinnabar moth and a Red-backed jumping spider (look them up it's uncanny!! 😮) moths in Hollow Knight are shown to have the power to shape and travel through dreams right and spiders ARE considered terrifying creatures, the stuff of Nightmares if you will... that might explain some of Grimm's powers too because creatures like the Weavers are mentioned to be able to make spells using silk, so who knows? 🤔 I mean if you look at the Nightmare Heart it looks like it has threads, wires and patchwork ... Maybe that's connected? 🤔
Beating this guy and the Path of Pain remains my greatest achievement in video game history.

It looks easy for the watchers who didn't play the game, but for me NKG is by far the toughest boss in game, and way harder than any Cuphead bosses and Souls bosses.
The only exception being the completely optional +10 difficulty Zote the Mighty which is basically just tweaking the numbers and make all his moves one shot.
(Every bosses can be that difficult if you tweak them into doing 9 damage, so I do not consider this real difficulty. )
I died to NKG way more often, but I still consider GPZ+4 a more frustrating fight. I agree, Hollow Knight is a bit more challenging than Souls games. Although I probably still died more to the DLC bosses of Bloodborne and the Genocide final boss of Undertale and consider them to be more difficult.

Well, it certainly is true for me. I had more trouble with NKG and GPZ than any Souls boss ever. Bloodborne is a whole different story though. Both BB and HK are more fast paced than DS, so I can see people saying they perceive it as more challenging. Doesn´t mean DS was never hard of course.

That´s a pretty weak argument. Any boss can be made artificially difficult by messing with the health and damage sliders. We are talking about what´s available in the vanilla playthrough. Grey Prince Zote is a different matter because you only get all unlockables in the game if you beat him four times.
I love how the boss name causes your screen to go black momentarily. As if to say that you cannot grasp the true form of his attack. By the way, that wasn't just Grimm glancing at you, that was bowing like a true actor. I even love how attacking him while he's doing that activates a hardmode version of the fight, as if to penalize you for your rudeness. Or did you do that on purpose just to challenge yourself?

Oh, yeah, I did a No-Hit NKG too (although in the hall of gods). It was really fun and NKG is now my favourite Boss in HK.

After I beat the Nightmare King, I couldn't help but appreciate how fun it was. The use of the Nail Arts helped alot, since almost every hit was a charge attack.
I know it's a small detail to focus on out off the bigger picture, but I like the little vocalizations Grimm makes when he goes in to attack.

it’s barely there when he splits, gets a drum roll when he reforms, and that fucking double bass during the bullet hell portion makes me feel very nice

The first fight isn't that bad, after a few tries you will be able to dodge all his moves reliably but i recommend using nail arts as the boss teleports after 1 hit anyway and Nail arts do x2.5 of your damage.
The second fight on the other hand is extremely tough and fast. It is actually harder than the first ending's final boss of the game

[PR]Speedy27 ಠ_ಠ Ironically defeating the Nightmare King is the bad ending for the grimm troupe. The good ending is banishing them and never defeating the king.
I think it's to do with the Grimmchild. If you dream nail Grimm he compliments the Wyrm (aka Pale King) on the current Hollow Knight as the perfect vessel for the heart of Grimm. if I had to guess I would say by defeating Nightmare King he'll be reborn through the Grimmchild as part of the ritual. Then the whole thing starts all over again.
Yellow Pikmin88 I'm trying to figure out the lore of the grimm troupe. What i have so far is that the grimm troupe are nightmares that are embodied by scarlet flame instead of light. The grimm troupe appear when a kingdom is dying and partake in a ritual of feeding the scarlet flame of the dying kingdom to the next nightmare king. All members of the grimm troupe are trapped with the current king whether willingly or not.
So that would make the Grimmchild the future King
This was actually the first Hollow Knight video I ever watched. This boss was the first thing that I saw about this game. When I watched it for the first time, I thought he bowed down to you, because only then you can read his mind (I saw the dream nail slash when he bowed and I thought he can be only heard whenever we strike it with that sword.). I did't know what he was saying, cause I was only studying English. But now that I know badically everything about this game, I can say that he was a though, but a simple foe to beat.
