I find the black oxide does not operate as smoothly and can rub off on your hands with hard use. It is also hard to see when laid down on the ground or in a dim lit area. If you are cutting food you will be consuming this coating. I do not see any advantage of black oxide other than stealth.
It’s already stainless steel so the black oxide treatment is more for aesthetic and low-reflectiveness purposes. But in non-stainless steel, it does offer a bit of rust resistance especially when wiped with oil.
I haven’t been using it as I’m finding it heavy to daily carry. I ended up just pocket-carrying the lighter and more compact SOG PowerPint. th-cam.com/video/NZB7E6bf_YM/w-d-xo.html
It’s terrible. It starts rubbing off the minute you start folding it around, testing it out. Hands will have a light black residue each time you use it until it wears away. It scratches easy and won’t last. I got this finish because it was a gift, so I’m now looking to buff this crap off. Get the regular stainless finish.

I went black oxide and went back after, the coating seems to make the tool much stiffer and harder to break in. It does look cool though

Thanks. How do you maintain this? What kind of oil do you recommend and how often to oil it?
I just use Singer oil after cleaning or every month or two. But abrasion wear is inevitable.
