I’d like to address ONE of the most common things I see as a teacher and how it can be improved quickly. If you are aware of this you can more easily do something to change it and therefore move forward with confidence.
Often times dark and light areas can look lifeless, boring or flat. This is something that happens a lot for beginner artists and also intermediate painters. To avoid this and make your paintings look more professional and have more depth you firstly have to be aware and know what to look for.
Whether you paint realistically or abstractly, this can really be a real game-changer. Especially if you are looking to paint larger work. A large dark or light area really needs some variation of color, tone or texture to carry itself.
Yes I’m aware that there can be exceptions - I don’t like absolutes in art - I don’t like to say never do this or always to that.
In general try looking at your light and dark areas and see if you can breathe in a bit more life to them. I think you’ll see a big difference in your work.

Hi Marie Louise. So cool to see one of your earlier paintings. This video is perfect for me because that's just about where I'm at right now. What to do with the dark areas. I keep learning from you. Thanks. You're the best 👌 👍
Wonderful video, I love her instructions!
Thank you for this video🙏
Good advice for any painter. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. ❤
Great advice as always!
Hope you're doing well!!!😊
Thank you ❤

Hi Marie Louise. I was wondering when the "closed" courses will be open again? Thanks.
Thank you for this share! The end of your video is so beautiful and touching, it brought tears to my eyes. How does your kitty not wander off into the sunset I wonder?
Good tips
Love your work! Inspires!
Wondering about your water and paint ratios to get the watercolor effects....? Is that something you could share with us?
Thanks
Thank you⭐️⭐️⭐️
I see you brought a new painting partner with you. How did you get her to behave so nicely? 😂 So cute
Pourriez vous mettre traduction en français svp
Thank you for these videos , they are so useful. - on your webpage it says online courses not available in UK due to brexit. - is this still the case ?
Hi James, yes unfortunately Brexit made it so hard on small businesses. Sorry 😔
