    In this video I’m painting two abstract landscapes on paper. I'm working on a very wide and panoramic format and I’ll be using acrylics and a bit of mixed media in the form of pencils and crayons. I will show you all the different stages the abstract landscapes go through from beginning to end.
    The inspiration for the paintings is the view near my house of hills and distant patches of trees.
    The feeling I want to convey with these two paintings is how I felt recently as I climbed a tall hill and watched a spectacular sunset.
    I don’t want this to be too literal so I’m not using a reference photo, just painting from memory. If painting from memory seems daunting don’t worry. Try instead to think of the landscape as a series of shapes. Large shapes, small shapes, dark shapes and light shapes.
    Materials used in the video:
    Watercolor paper 140lb / 300 gsm.
    Acrylic colors:
    Burgundy, golden yellow, black, Prussian blue, Wedgwood blue and Titanium white.
    Watercolor pencils, crayons
    Masking tape, spray bottle.
    This painting video is for beginners and for more experienced artists as well. I hope you got some value, inspiration and tips for your next painting.

    Thank you. You are inspiring and I like real time videos. I have only been painting for three years and I have tried taking online classes, but they have not worked out for whatever reason. I look forward to watching more of your videos and learning from you.

    I am not an artist. The last art class I had was 7th grade, and let us just say....that was a while ago. I have been watching you tube artists for a month or so now, just fiddling with practicing a few art pieces, primarily for "art therapy" rather than expecting a late-in-life magical talent bloom. I wondered if I would ever gravitate toward a medium or style of art...and WHAM....I watched your videos and I am mesmerized.

    I could watch you paint all day. I love the loose expressive style. Never give the viewer too much detail. Our brains are very adept at filling in what's not there. I think the brain switches off when tbe eyes see a hyper realistic painting. If all the information is already there then why bother to waste too much time looking? 👍

    These are really nice. Thanks for the advice, especially about the pauses! I was always wondering how can you paint so fast. Maybe also tell us, when you wait until the paint is dry, wet, or almost dry.

    I love this one Marie Louise!!🥰 such good reminders, that I definitely need, as I told you, to stay loose and just enjoy it. I agree with you about the loose style bringing SO much life to it!! In my watercolors of flowers and things I also tend to get too detailed...so also in my acrylics. I know what I want to do in my head, but then its as if something takes control of my darn hand and starts doing too much, then I hate it!!😆😊🤣 but, as you said, its practice, learn from it and keep trying. Using the crayons and making the loose marks is one of my favorite things and I love using them. They somehow add a bit of detail or maybe its more like framing, I don't know, but it adds so much fun to it, without being heavy with detail!! They add lots of movement! And the thing i love about the sky is it's movement and how it's always changing so there's always something amazing to look at...I can get lost for hours just looking at and photographing the sky, especially in stormy weather...because it's so alive and mesmerizing. Just as your paintings of the sky are, which is why I love them so much. And why I look forward to days when my hands work for me and I can keep trying to get what's in my head down on paper or canvas!
    I can't wait to keep practicing as I can :)
    You're a brilliant teacher and as always, I appreciate all you do here and even more, your friendship....one day, tea and talking 🥰

    Every time I watch one of your videos I learn so much! MY challenge is to get looser (thank you for the tips which I downloaded) and add marks to my current abstract landscape in progress. I ask myself, what are you afraid of? As you said, it's only paint and thankfully acrylic is so forgiving and lets me change or cover up what I don't like. Thank you!

      I often like to add a couple of coats of gesso first. If I use very heavy watercolor paper I usually don't use gesso, but it's a matter to preference. Thanks for watching Amanda :)

    Hi Marie-Louise, I'm discovering your work and that interests me a lot : I'm trying to loosen up my work too realistic. A question : when you talk about "pastel", is it "pastel sec" or "oil pastel" ? Thanks in advance for your answer.

    • @Banniesartistry
      @Banniesartistry ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! I think both of them work! But maybe you wanna use oil pastels when you’re done with your painting!

    Merci Marie-Louise, pour ce travail si bien expliqué, le résultat est émouvant et poétique, les couleurs somptueuses. Je suis fascinée par ce bleu , "wedgwood blue", quelle marque est-ce? Il est doux et subtil, j'adore. Belle journée!

    • @TheDanishPainter
      @TheDanishPainter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wedgewood est produit par Daler Rowney et oui c'est très beau. C'est un mélange de bleu outremer, d'oxyde de fer jaune et de blanc de titane. Peut-être que vous pouvez essayer de le mélanger vous-même si vous avez ces couleurs. Merci d'avoir regardé la chaîne et belle journée!

    Interesting that you use watercolour paper... Is this because you are watering down your acrylics?
