I grew up in Allen Field House! From the JoJo White days through the Darnell Valentine Days! The Best Place to experience basketball at its finest. I live in Oklahoma now (don’t ask) and was here in 1988. Best day of my life going to work with My Kansas gear on after beating Oklahoma. My goal is to take my daughter and son to a game in the Phog one day soon.
I got there the year after the national championship and that banner looked like it belonged there for decades. It was very cool to see the people who made it and hear their story. #payheed
I know I had no idea it was so recent…I thought it had been there for decades. I started in 91 where in the ncaa’s we upset Nolan Richardson/Arkansas, Bobby Knight/Indiana, Dean Smith/UNC and lost to Duke in championship. It was an amazing first year at KU! I’m relying on memory but pretty sure that’s how it went down. 😂😂
1987-1988 was my Freshman year at KU. In the Dance we got to extract revenge on KSU, Duke and OU who all beat us in previous meetings that season. What a way to start your college career than with a National Title. I watched that game at the Wheel. Since then, I saw us win in 08 live and 22 in Dillon Colorado with a roommate of mine from KU whose dad played football at KU with John Hadl. If you've never been to the Phog....pay heed
Hey Kevin, thanks for commenting, and thank you. Christopher Robin Sleight Born Lawrence 1956 Lived at the munitions plant on the staff village for first four years of my life. Still feels like home (KU)
Freshman year at KU. Can't believe I didn't know or don't remember this story. I was at that Duke (regular season) game! On of the best I ever saw in Allen Fieldhouse.
This should be featured on ESPN or something. Maybe it has. But it really should be played at every Late Night for the Freshmen players and the Freshmen students in the crowd. I remember looking at that banner as a kid, my dad had season tickets and my brother and I would go with him even on school nights from 1st grade (1990ish) up until I was a Freshman in College anytime we could. My brother passed in 1997 in a freak accident. KU Basketball has been a source of coming together for our family before and since he passed. My late brother even owned a shirt with that slogan on it. I have always looked at that banner with awe. I’m glad to know that we saw the original one before we put the NC Banners on the South Wall of the Fieldhouse. The title banners used to be up with the Final Four Banners across the ceiling. I am so glad they kept the “pay heed” sign on the South Wall above the Title Banners when they moved them around 2004-2005ish. Rock Chalk! Looks even better now with “2022” hanging up there! These students should get honorary life season tickets. ❤️
There's absolutely no place like Allen Fieldhouse.
No place like home!!
This video gave me the chills. Everytime you are at the Allen Fieldhouse, you get chills lol

My sophomore year at Kansas. Best year of my life!
I remember a paper banner with the same phrase put up by students in the late 60’s or the early 70’s. I don’t think this was the 1st one.
Wow!! This is awesome
Why am I emotional? Rock Chalk
Same

This originally aired on ESPN during a GameDay from Allen Fieldhouse.
@@CHIIIEEEEEEEEFFFFSSS good to know. :)
How did they have the 1988 footage for this??!?!
That's what's running through my mind. 😄
Best ever!!🏀🏀

I want to know which dorm they stole the shower curtains came from. Looked like McCollum.
Yeah; it was certainly up on the hill. McCollum certainly had the most shower curtains at the time, among Daisy Hill dorms.
@@ajpendNevermind. Not McCollum. We didn't have double doors in the hallways (plus the bathroom were halfway down the wing) 4:29
🙏🙌🏻👏🏻❤️
RCJH, It’s only fitting this happened in the 80’s. There will never be another year like 1988
