Half Life: Alyx is my first VR game. WATCH MY REVIEW OF THIS ENTIRE GAME: th-cam.com/video/JAStTqQHse4/w-d-xo.html Besides the setup and exploration in Steam VR Home, (for which there is a video), you are witnessing me experience depth perception in-game for the first time! It feels incredibly realistic as though you are actually there! It also somehow looks better graphically in VR than what you see on-screen as a spectator. Speaking of spectator, on the next episode you will be viewing in Spectator Mode with a special HUD for your viewing pleasure.
Boneworks and bonelabs are also on this level if not better! There are plenty of awesome vr experiences. Anyone who doesn't agree probably plays vrchat and should be avoided 😂
This may be the best VR video I've ever seen. Laughed my ass off. Takes me back to my first time in VR. It was the Vive back in 2016 and I just sat on my living room floor and almost wept with joy. I was 46 at the time.
That's so awesome! =D Thanks so much! I'm happy you enjoyed and you said that it may be the best VR video you've seen! That's humbling. Next episode just dropped btw. ;)
Welcome to VR! You do not need to crouch to pick objects up like bullet clips, just use your gravity glove point and flick! Like you did grabbing bottles and other items. ALSO you can pull boards off with your hands.
@@ashketchup9040 "Jesus Wept" is just a common phrase, it's not directly from anything as an original source, as far as I'm aware! Like saying "My God!"
@CDMaccles "Jesus wept" is a Bible verse from the Gospel of John, chapter 11, verse 35, that appears in many translations of the Bible, including the King James Version. However, the specific phrase "Jesus wept" became heavily referenced in pop culture mainly due to the movie Hellraiser. It is most certainly not "just a common phrase".
Thank you so much! I feel humbled at the outpouring of support from so many new people. I consider all of you OGs. I was sitting at around 160 subs for a long time. Stagnant. It was a struggle to get above 100. I release two VR videos simultaneously, and everyone started pouring in. Seeing great growth and I'm so thrilled all of you are along for the ride with me now! All of my life I've often wondered if I was too weird, but I had decided not to hide my true self as I experienced VR for the first time. I've sometimes allowed myself to be silly on my music channel "Brandon Burch Music" but especially here on "Beyond Xen". So for you to say that you love my energy truly means a lot. From the bottom of my heart -- thank you.
@@beyond_xen thank you! It could be that VR is your ticket and I have no doubt you'll have fun on this VE journey plus doing reactions to different games gives you guaranteed video ideas in the bank for a long time, I bet people have loads of suggestions!
Right? Everytime when people are visiting me, I let them try vr and its always hilarious to watch. My favorite game to show is Gran Turismo 7 with my racing rig.... every single person (even those that are not into cars) were absolutely blown away and couldnt believe what they are seeing :D
Welcome to our world! : ) This shock your experiencing, we all went through it, so it's awesome to see somebody experiencing it for the first time and shows their real reaction. The more you use VR, the less you understand why people think VR is just a gimmick. I've gamed my entire life, and VR is like miraculous. If you eventually continue to Quest 3, you'll notice a humungous jump in clarity and it is the same right across the lens. I went from the CV1 to the Quest 2 and now the Quest 3 and each one was a substantial leap!
Hey thanks for re-experiencing it with me! I appreciate the support. VR is a game changer! So is the Q2 supposed to be a little blurry and pixelated when viewing things at a distance? For example when I stand outside the Steam VR Home on the patio and look inside at the screen. That longer distance is undefined. Does the Q3 clear that up? Not so bad with Alyx, because long distances are usually showing humongous things. But it's really difficult to play F1 23 and see cars clearly except for right out in front of me. Thank you. I look forward to owning a better headset one day.
@@beyond_xen Things in the distance are cleared up with the resolution of the displays. The higher resolution, the more detail you can see. The kind of clarity that the quest 3 provides is yes, more resolution, but also lenses that make it so you can look around with your eyes and it's clear wherever you look. No blurryiness around the edges of your vision.
Amazing reaction to the VR experience, so fun to watch! Just a small tip as you explore further - use your gravity gloves to pick up items both from afar aswell as stuff close to you(like on the floor, shelfs), and you won´t need to crouch or move close to them to pick everything up ;) . And look around for items inside and behind stuff so you don´t miss them. Thouse fire canisters on the train roof, you could have just pulled them towards you and each barnicle would have picked them up and self explode. Some of them have items inside of them which drops when they die. But keep it up man!
Oh wow that's good to know about the barnacles. Thank you. I can't remember when but I do at some point use my gravity gloves more. Should be coming up in a later episode as I improve.
Thanks man. I tried an F1 game (F1 23), But the game felt unplayable because the horizon was blurry and I can only see just right out in front of me. I don't know if it's because of my Quest 2 or if that's just how it is. Is there a fix for that?
@@beyond_xen I think if you're going to play more VR, then you need to at least upgrade to Quest 3. If you're more serious then look towards newer headsets coming out later in the year like the Pimax ones. Quest 2 does 'blur' games due to its processing power and the lenses are not the best. When it comes to racing though, Assetto Corsa is the king. Also try the Half Life Alyx mods, like Levitation and Gunman Contracts...you'll love those.
@@BaronPsycho Thank you. Yes I definitely want to upgrade to a Quest 3 soon. I can already tell I enjoy this enough to justify it. I'll have to look into those Alyx mods. Does the order matter, or are they all standalone?
@@beyond_xen No order, all stand alone in the steam workshop. Go Gunman Contracts first, but there are HEAPS!!! Even a VR version of Bioshock and Half Life 2.
@@beyond_xen All stand alone in the Steam workshop. Go Gunman Contract first but there are HEAPS of others, even Bioshock 'Return to Rapture' and a Half Life 2 VR Mod. If you need any help or other recommendations just yell out mate.
I am truly jealous of your first experience. I had that when the htc vive came out and i would do anything to recreate that feeling again. Half Life Alyx was a game changer with the valve index when that was released and from there ive been on the hunt for the next VR experience to blow me away. Enjoy and welcome to the VR Community.
I was exactly the same when i played VR for the first time, i was totally blown away and it still does. What gets me is everything is life size. Love it and i loved your first time experience, great fun.
Great video and welcome to VR! As a Huge fan of VR I feel this is the perfect time to be jumping into this world. A lot of good games coming out later this year. Alien, Metro Awakening, Batman, etc... VR is an experience like no other. Sit back and enjoy the ride!
Thank you for the welcoming! To hear that there is an Alien VR game coming is exciting! This is the first that I've heard of it, and I recently finished playing Alien Isolation for the channel. I was going to play the mod that makes it VR at some point too. But an actual VR alien game is great! Is it supposed to be canon?
You've picked THE best VR game to date as your maiden voyage. What a trip you're in for. I remember trying Robo-Recall on a friends Rift Gen 1, and the detail blew my mind. Then when I'd bought a Rift of my own and got around to playing Alyx, man - I wouldn't take the headset off for days. It's not just the fidelity, or the gameplay - it's the whole VR UX - it's phenomenally intuitive and fluid. The way you can pick stuff up, interacting with the environment etc. It's just so fluid compared to other games.
This video could not have come out at a more perfect time, I just purchased a quest 2 and it should be arriving by Friday, your genuine reactions have me so excited to try it out now!
Oh my goodness, how fun!! Thanks for sharing! Have fun! I have an unboxing and setup video too if you are interested after you've had chance to experience it on your own. (If you wanted to wait before you watch my setup video.)
@@beyond_xen I have indeed already watched it as well, keep up the great work. You earned a sub from me and I will check out your other content as well!
It's been a long time since I've seen someone show such joy when experiencing VR, especially on their first time. Love the video, can't wait to hopefully see more VR content from you! Maybe something like Beat Saber eventually :0
Yes, thank you Lily! I am curious about Beat Saber. Maybe I will play some for the channel one day. I heard there is some copyright free OST music on there I could play to. I do have more VR content planned indeed - especially since I see so many people want to see it. Before my VR uploads, this channel was kind of a ghost town. I want to play Lone Echo, I think, as my next playthrough.
This is one of the coolest half life videos ive seen, im saving up to buy half life alyx too! but i really do recomend you to try out the half life 2 vr mod!
This means a lot to hear you say it's one of the coolest you've seen. =) I wish you the best in saving up for the game. I owned the game for over a year before I finally got around to buying a VR headset. I got the game on sale at the time around the holidays.
I insantly subbed when you SCREAMED from the Strider almost stomping on you. I was yelling at my screen telling you to pick up one of the markers at the window you were looking at. You can write and draw in the 3D space.. its mind blowing.
Haha thanks man 😁 Yeah I get to try the markers later in the zoo since I missed out. But I tried it on my own at the beginning after I finished the game. Such a blast to play this game! I'm working on a game review and I'm excited to share it! Since this was my first VR game, I was overwhelmed at everything I was seeing. 🤩
Wow love your reaction to VR . Been using vr for over 2 years but only recently got a pc to enjoy pcvr , experienced Half Life Alyx for the first time recently and it blew my mind , enjoy vr bro 👌
Haha I love the enthusiasm, unfortunately you missed so many little interactive bits in the early game like writing on the window at the start, throwing stuff at the cat, feeding the snark, so much in this game can be interacted with, play with anything you can in the environment :)
Thank you. I wish I had seen those things in the beginning. But it does give me the chance to go back and try them on my own. Would've been cool to do it on camera as part of the playthrough. I think I was just so overwhelmed at the beginning jumping into realistic VR for the first time. 🤩
Hi! Just wanted to say I love your energy and style. I would recommend getting a third party strap for your headset (dont really recommend the official elite strap, which is wayy too expensive for what it is. Get a kiwi design or BoBoVR M2 (M3 is for Quest 3, make sure to get the one that corresponds to your Quest model). This video put a big stupid grin on my face because it reminded me of the first time I tried VR back in 2018 on my friend's Rift (CV1). Thanks for the memories!!
You're welcome and Thank you! We are on episode 10 now and we have a super tense and exciting episode releasing on Friday! I have tried the Kiwi Elite but it wouldn't fit with my headphones. So I will at some point try the BoboVR.
When you are aiming, try to have the front sight post level with the 2 back sights, it should look like 3 dots perfectly level. Also it is so wholesome to see you try VR for the first time!
@@beyond_xen When I started VR for the first time I looked the same, it's a learning curve. Don't feel ashamed to enable any settings that help with comfort! (oh also that tip applies for "iron sights" the reflex sight should show where you are aiming exactly.)
It's gets easier with the gun mods, but I don't know if I actually got any better with a reflex sight or that I had a "cheat" way to aim. haha. I have begun to love seeing that fabricator - even if I can't remember what it's called on camera.
A few tips: use the gravity gloves, all the times, no need to crouch to pick something. Figure out shooting, close your left eye if necessary. When hacking interact randomly at first and you ll figure it out pretty quick. When head crabs jump at you have a chair or something in your left hand to protect yourself. Check every corner, every cupboard, every shelf for resin and ammo, you ll need it. Don’t shoot planks, pick them with your hand. Smash supply boxes on the floor. Put construction helmets on your head so in case you hit a barnacle tongue it ll pick up just the helmet. Smash the windows with your gun, it’s satisfying af.
Subscribed. Love the energy, it reminds me of myselft 8 years ago when i dived into vr first time. Such a shame you didnt get quest 3 - you would get way better experience displays-wise. Cant wait for part2
Yeah that's what everybody keeps telling me about the Quest 3. It was just way too expensive for me right now. This way I can jump right into VR like everyone else did at one time. Thank you so much for the subscription and compliment.
oh that was very fun reaction, welcome to the world of vr, the most immersed you can be while looking at a tile floor texture, where ADS and reloading become actual skills you have to learn, hope you have fun, you've earned a sub. A couple tips from a decent vr marksman: *_Sight picture_* : remember all three prongs level and an equal distance apart. I know resolution can be a problem, so you *can* get away with having the front sight higher than the rear, just remember your impact is going to be slightly above BOTH sights if you do. *_Trigger usage_* : PULL the trigger, don't slap it. Pull it as slowly as is practical in the moment, if you're spam firing at close range that's fine, but for any distance/situation that you can, pull slow & smooth so you don't have any sudden movements or jerks throw your aim off last second. Ideally, focus on your sight picture and pull so slow the gun almost suprises you when it fires. And a few extra that won't come up in this game but here you go: *_Breathing_* : if you need to hold your breath, hold it OUT not in, don't know why this helps, probably something about muscle tension, but it does. *_Bracing_* : With two handed weapons, try to brace your elbows on something to steady them, in your case the chair arm, in mine my chest or my kneee. Happy hunting!
I love your enthusiasm getting into VR for the first time. Reminds me of the first time I got into it with the Oculus CV1. There is SO much out there for you to experience in VR and if that's something you want to do, I'm up for watching you do it all!
Thank you! And I'm so happy that people are watching now. Because I discovered the world of VR, I have discovered what people want to watch and I get to experience a brand new thing as well!
yeah, I've since learned my VR boundary is not visible to y'all, but the game boundary is. The game boundary is trying to tell me I can't be a ghost. =O
This was fun. I got frustrated a few times though. Like, you really need to use the gravity pull more often. And supply crates can be smashed by hitting them. Wood barricades can be pulled off with your hands etc. But you pretty much covered every first timers VR reactions. Things like the 3D immersion. The first time you move feeling like the carpet was pulled form under you. Excitement realising your hands are 1:1. Asking where the HUD is when you don't really need one in VR. Really, was a hoot and loved your genuine joy at the whole experience. I've been an avid user of VR for 6 years now and this was refreshing. Subbed
Thank you =D You will see me get better as I go along. Thanks so much for the sub. All of the sudden outpouring of kind support and advice from you all is amazing! This channel felt dead before it was even hardly started. I feel a big boost now!
Loving the reactions from first time vr gamers, the panicked shooting and fumbling with the reloading is all part of the learning experience. Also remember you can gravity glove pull almost anything smaller than a barrel. It will become second nature after a while so you don't even have to think about it it all just happens naturally even in combat. You can kill the barnacles to make them spit out things they have eaten like resin or ammo. Game does have some dynamic ammo spawning. Alyx was my first vr game on the quest 2 a couple of years ago. I had watched countless videos before but nothing could have prepared me for how much the 3d effect inside the headset tranformed the view. I still use my quest 2 quite often and it is still a capable headset for both pcvr and native games, combined with the recent price drop it is an amazing intro to vr for those on the fence. I play using the air play feature so no wires getting in the way and it still looks really good. I got that active pack when things went on mega sale after quest 3 came out, The straps did not fit on my hands without them feeling like they got in the way but at least I get use from the wipeable facemask for those beat saber sessions. A bonus with the release of steam linkyou don't even need the meta app on your computer to play pcvr titles anymore.
Oh wow, I didn't know about the barnacles spitting out stuff! That's neat! Also didn't know about Steam Link. Thanks for sharing your experiences! Cool to hear you also started on the Q2 in HLA. Thanks for the tips! You'll see me improve as I go along. Episode 2 just dropped. :)
Dude what a lovely playthrough! I played VR before but Alyx really raised the bar, even to now after release. I made sure to play all the Half Life games before Alyx to really understand and immerse myself even more in respect of the game lore and immersion. Your excitement and reactions are awesome and reminded me of my reaction when I first played HL Alyx, especially that Strider jump scare haha! Very entertaining video, lovely!
Thank you so much for the kind praise! If you get curious, I do have playthroughs of all the other main half-life games. I had made it my goal to play through those in preparation for Half-Life Alyx.
I was exactly like you, intended to see everything but ended up rushing to the next part. When I realised how valuable the resin is, and how many I had missed, I started again! Hope that's not a spoiler) Love your reactions to everything, my jaw is still dragging on the floor)))
Oh no worries man! ☺️ You'll see on my channel that I've actually already beaten the game and even did a full review on it. 🥳 I've actually played it a few times and I love this game so much! And with my Quest 3 it's icing on the cake. Thank you for watching! Hope you will check out more. I had a lot of fun and surprises on my documented journey with Alyx.
you can pull boards off and smash supply crates with your hands and glass has physics you can break it with your gun and remove shards. Also really look around for resin, they're hidden in the weirdest places sometimes like under upturned buckets/porta-potties etc
Dude this was great fun! Btw you missed heaps of resin so far, but that all good for a first time playthrough. They are pretty sneaky with where they hide them sometimes.
This was totally me when I tried Quest 2, HLA, 2 years ago. I still love VR but I wish we had more Alyx Graphic / Gameplay games. I got a quest 3 when it came out. It makes this so much better. I'm so happy your experience is so great! We need more VR players.
@@beyond_xen Yes of course! Also I seen you complain about comfort, I would really recommend getting a decent head strap accessory like BoBo VR or KiWi. About hitting your tracking rings that's Quest 2 biggest issue. Cable issue can be solved by using Quest link wireless or buying my personal favorite app for wireless Quest gameplay the Virtual Desktop app. Regardless I hope you continue to enjoy the game and have fun!
Good video. I can feel the excitement vicariously. 5 Things I wish I knew when I got my first headset: -Get a big fan to blow some air in your face to reduce motion sickness and VR face. -Get a third party strap or the official elite strap. -Use virtual desktop instead of Oculus link preferably via Wifi6. The ASUS RT-AX53U is around 50 bucks and fine for wifi6 as a dedicated router in the VR room. The AX55 is better but almost twice the price. -Play around with refreshrate and supersampling in SteamVR and the Oculus app. 90hz with 1.15 Oculus SS and 150% SS in SteamVR is the point of diminishing returns for me. -Turn off spacewarp to reduce the feeling of input lag.
Thanks for the video 👍. I like to see when people are happy about VR. In case you don't know it yet, there are excellent VR mods for Half-Life 2 + Episode One and Two on Steam, play like an official VR game. Edit: You can feed the snark (at the beginning, in the room with the camera) with food from a can.
😂 Haha yes! Man I wish I could experience a Quest 3 - I will one day when I have the extra cash. For now - it's amazing! I enjoyed this whole game and I've been working on a game review too!
Watching other people play Alyx for the first time is it the only way I can re-live that experience. Been playing VR for 8+ years, I recommend Google Earth VR, Lone Echo 2, Vader Immortal, VTOL VR (flight sim), HL2 VR, and if you have a decent gaming PC my #1 is Skyrim VR with mad gods VR modpack will blow your mind even after playing Alyx.
Alyx in VR is truly a peak into the future. It is so sad that we don't have more titles like it but the fact that it exists and we can play it is good enough for me
Welcome to VR lol just a couple of beginner tips, I would play standing up to help with motion sickness I would do continuous motion and continuous turning Plus, if you’re blown away with the quest two you need to get your hands on the quest three
I loved seeing your first vr experience! It’s just pure joy 🤩 mine was playing job simulator 🤣 absolutely blew me away! Never looked back. Fab video! New sub here! 🎉
good choice for a first vr game. makes everything else feel like a tech demo lmao. gotta recommend the original boneworks next. its heavily inspired by half life. just a warning though i would give yourself some time to get your vr legs as it can cause alot of motion sickness for newcomers
Thank you. My friend Jeremy, who you will hear me reference a ton throughout these episodes, has talked non-stop about Boneworks because he's excited for me to try that too. It's on my wish list.
Just shoot the barnicles or a red gas tank there is usually something in them. Crates you can pick up and trow on the ground to see if there is something in them. Crabs that are armored can only be shot if they show the belly. And save as much as possible
Oh there will definitely be an entire episode series for this entire game of HLA. Stay tuned! I'm pacing myself with the editing. Thank you so much for watching and letting me know how much you enjoyed watching my reactions!
@@mikegc3816 Yes, I do plan on playing Alien VR first. I will check out HL2 VR at some point, but since I did HL2 so recently, I want the flat experience to fade away more in my mind so it feels more exhilarating. I also want to experience other VR content which I've never seen. I think I might stagger Alien Isolation VR and Lone Echo uploads after Alyx.
Thank you 😅 I've always been a little weird and it's great to have a place that I can be myself. My coworkers, (the few that watch), get to see a different side of me that's not so professional when watching this. Glad you're enjoying!
If you get motion sickness. one that help me was to think ahead where you are going to move and how. You can use two hand to better aim/recoil like in real life
Using VR is the first time in so many years I've been excited for gaming again. For so long flat screen games have been so boring to me. Got the VR bug about 2 yrs ago and don't really play much flat screen. Congrats on the quest 2 I got quest 3 day one and Its prob the best VR around for the price.
Nice video! Btw, the gun in vr is an actual object, so you need to make sure the barrel is also pointing to where you want to shoot. And if you need a shooter to learn, can recommend Pavlov VR
Thank you. I've gotten better since then. I'm looking forward to showing my small progression in upcoming videos. This whole realistic gun thing is definitely a new concept in gaming for me. Might just have to check out your shooter suggestion.
Also, working out what your dominant eye is and aiming with that is a big help. I'm right handed but left eye dominant, which means I have to shoot rifles/SMG left handed if I want my aim to be any good 😅 @@beyond_xen
I'm hopefully going to get a Quest 2 in a couple of weeks, but I'm still going to keep watching your Alyx adventure. Also, Both HL1 and HL2 have VR mods in case you wanted to experience those in VR as well.
Hey thank you! The episode 2 just dropped. I'll consider checking out those mods at some point. Sounds like a fun way to re-experience those games! I had a blast playing them for the channel.
Love your reaction. It is so impressive, blows me away every time. But you did mis drawing the customary Cock and balls in crayon on the window when you go in the 1st room. Great Vid, thank you
This was a sick video! I have a list of some of the best vr games i can come up with and they're worth checking out: Boneworks Bonelab Blade & Sorcery Hellsplit Arena Vertigo 1 & 2 Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners Looking forward to more vr vids :)
Thanks very much! I highly appreciate your engagement! And thank you for the recommendations! A screenshot this for consideration. Also on my list is Lone Echo 1 & 2, Vader Immortal, Boneworks, and hopefully the VR mod of Alien Isolation. I had a blast with Alien Isolation in which I uploaded my first blind playthrough for the channel. Looking forward to revisiting that in the future is the plan - in VR.
This was so much fun to watch. When you get to the "Jeff" chapter, you might actually have a heart attack if the beginning is hyping you up this much. 😅
Also: You are gonna have to learn to work with the gravity gloves for picking things up. :-) Always bending down and picking ammo up from close up is gonna get rough in the long term. Those gloves are amazing. You can snag grenades from combines' belts mid-fight and stuff if you get the mechanics down.
One more hint, considering your VR aim is still developing: When you encounter upgrade stations, save your filament until you can afford the laser sight. That's probably not gonna be the first station but rather the second. That'll help you a ton until you get the aiming down.
Happy you enjoyed! Thank you for all the tips! Stay tuned as my adventure unfolds! 👀 Looking back, I wish I had made better upgrade choices. Wish I had your advice sooner. But I guess that is part of the experience. Thanks anyway. I appreciate it.
@@beyond_xen I mean, if you are still struggling with the aim: In the video, it looks like you are flinching to the right (well, turning the controller slightly) when pressing the trigger. Just like in real life, try to keep the gun steady and only squeeze the *trigger* with your finger, not moving the controller at all. Yes, it's very different than clicking the mouse on a cross. ;-) Also: Yes, on my first playthrough, I also made lots of wrong upgrade choices. But the game is very much worth replaying. 🙂
I was planning to commit on your latest video but the page isn't letting me. Maybe you could consider getting some better headgear for your headset. I reckon many other players in quest 2 have switched their headset because they're starting to feel pain after a while.
i paused this at one second in. because I mainly came here to congratulate you. Welcome brother, and what a great choice to burst your little red fruit on. Mine was RE:4. Edit: watching your reaction now, you're excitement shows in your head shakes, but I totally get it.
Thanks! The spectator view might help with that - hopefully. I was initially using Steam VR capture. I captured the Spectator View starting in episode 2, which has just dropped. =)
That was good fun to watch, but increbly frustrating to watch you spend 5 mins playing with the gravity gloves, only to immediately start struggling to pick up things from the floor once they let you loose 😂 Great vid anyway!
Haha thank you for letting me know! That would have come in handy. I wasted so much ammo. You'll see me in the later episodes get that figured out for sure!
Welcome to VR M8, you'll never go back to flat, lol. Get yourself a BoboVR M2 for comfort, you'll be able to play for hours without getting VR face, the halo headstrap really does make a massive difference to comfort.
Thank you! Do you think the BoboVR M2 will work with my big gaming headphones? I watched a jaybratt video and it looked like it might with the other headphones he tried out. I have already tried and returned the Kiwi Elite strap because I couldn't fit my headphones over the side strap.
@@beyond_xenthe BoboVR work great with headphones because the main strap is higher up off your ears. I took a photo to show you mine, but TH-cam won't allow the link even with spaces put in to break the link ☹️. If you want to see the photo, can you give me a DM link or something?
@@beyond_xen yeah, any kind of elite strap design are no better for comfort IMO, because they still pull the headset onto your face. That's what is so special about the halo design of the BoboVR, the headset is cradled on your head, not squashed to your face.
If you want to have a headset that is so comfy. Get the bobovr for quest 2. That thing is amazing and so comfortable and lets you play longer. And it has backup batteries.
I've thought about it. I tried a Kiwi Elite off camera, but it wouldn't fit with my headset I play with. I wonder if the Bobo would have the same bulky issue? Seems like it just looking at it. Otherwise, I'd probably go ahead and buy it. Maybe I'll think of something.
@@beyond_xen oh the Bobo is a halo style so it fits the head and let let's you sit the quest off your face so you don't get all pressure like other headed straps. It is the only headstrap I will use. I've tried several and this one is the best for sure.
I loved watching you fail at absolutely everything in this first playthrough. 😂 Sorry, I just had to. You keep forgetting that you have hands. Just pick things up or use the hands in other ways. The planks can be pulled away with the hands. The supply boxes can be picked up and thrown at the ground to break. Throw the gas canisters at the barnicles and they will eat them and explode. You also keep forgetting that you have grab gloves, so you keep reaching down or into things instead of just flicking your wrist to have it fly at you. It’s very important to save ammo in this game and find creative ways to not use your gun, sort of like in RE4. Thanks for an entertaining video. VR is truly transformational. It’s a very different experience.
It's okay thank you man! (Hey I love The Mandalorian too!) Glad you enjoyed so much. Thanks for the tips. I was so overwhelmed by my first VR experience. We are nearing episode 10 in this series. I hope you'll continue to watch this adventure. Thanks!

what is your age now?
The scariest chapter "Jeff " has released today 👀
@@Concrete-wy4tx cant you do the math yourself?
@@far_jk I can't just calculate his age out of nothing
Nice! Nothing like that first look in VR! 😃
Indeed - it took my breath away. I wasn't prepared for how realistic it felt compared to what I saw in Steam VR Home.
The pigeon is the main character

Man I just started noticing how many pigeons there are everywhere! 😅
Pigeon Freeman. 🙃

Welcome to VR! You do not need to crouch to pick objects up like bullet clips, just use your gravity glove point and flick! Like you did grabbing bottles and other items. ALSO you can pull boards off with your hands.
Thank you for the warm welcome! You guys are so awesome and so inviting! It's been radio silence for so long!
This has the exact same energy as "JEEEESUS WEPT" from Community 😂
I'm not familiar
@@beyond_xen Search for "The Dean Community VR" and watch all the clips 🤣
@@beyond_xen "Jesus Wept" is from Hellraiser, I'm assuming the show Community referenced it
@@ashketchup9040 "Jesus Wept" is just a common phrase, it's not directly from anything as an original source, as far as I'm aware!
Ive just found you but i LOVE your energy, im an experienced vr gamer so cant wait to see your reactions to EVERYTHING.

I can't explain to you how happy this video made me! I love seeing VR for the first time through others eyes! Thanks for making my day :)
I'm glad to have made you so happy! You're kindness makes me happy also. Thanks!
I had that same warm fuzzy feeling as well! Also, it looks like all the VR folk are congregating here to welcome him to the fold!
I love watching gamers first ever time experiencing VR, it's quite nostalgic. Also, you should give the Half life 2 VR mod a shot.
Noted! Thanks!
Right? Everytime when people are visiting me, I let them try vr and its always hilarious to watch. My favorite game to show is Gran Turismo 7 with my racing rig.... every single person (even those that are not into cars) were absolutely blown away and couldnt believe what they are seeing :D
@@phil_5430 It's just such a great feeling seeing new comers enjoy VR, knowing they'll be a fan for life now.
"I don't have words..."
My same response, perhaps?
Yes, It truly took my breath away
Welcome to our world! : )
This shock your experiencing, we all went through it, so it's awesome to see somebody experiencing it for the first time and shows their real reaction.
@@LARVideos I'm looking forward to having that one day. Thanks for the insight.
I lived through your excitement dude. I've been VRing since 2016 and this reminded me of my first experience all over. Try some Sim Racing man.
Thank you so much and I really appreciate the support! I'm really enjoying hearing from everyone. This VR thing is a whole other ball game.
I just experienced JEFF and I shared my experience today!
This made me need to play Alyx all over again.... I'm not even sure I finished it the first time... Goodbye, life.
This game is so good indeed!
I was exactly the same when i played VR for the first time, i was totally blown away and it still does. What gets me is everything is life size. Love it and i loved your first time experience, great fun.
Thank you so much.
Omg. I'm so excited for Metro Awakening. Have you tried CONVRGENCE?
You've picked THE best VR game to date as your maiden voyage. What a trip you're in for. I remember trying Robo-Recall on a friends Rift Gen 1, and the detail blew my mind. Then when I'd bought a Rift of my own and got around to playing Alyx, man - I wouldn't take the headset off for days. It's not just the fidelity, or the gameplay - it's the whole VR UX - it's phenomenally intuitive and fluid. The way you can pick stuff up, interacting with the environment etc. It's just so fluid compared to other games.
That's so encouraging that I picked the best VR game to play. I had set out to make this my first experience outside of the setup. Glad I did now. :)
I shared my experience today with Jeff. He's a crazy dude!
You can write with the markers on the windows in the first room.
This reminds me of my first time playing this game when I first bought my Index, good times, fun video!

Thank you 🙂 Maybe one day. Still way more than I had pre-VR on the channel.
I've got so much to catch up on! 9 more episodes?
I missed a ton.
This video is great, love the editing, your reactions and the gameplay. Nothing beats Half-Life:Alyx, it's awesome!
Thank you so much!! Glad you enjoyed. People have been enjoying the series so far.
Jeff has arrived to the channel 👀
Thank you! I appreciate it. VR is so wonderful!
LOL, from the moment you were blown away by an INTRO sequence i knew this was gonna be a good vid
😅 Yeah dude I was blown away! Nothing could have prepared me. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the tip :) I'll get better with practice. Thanks for sharing in my first VR game!
@@beyond_xen The reflex sight isnt a cheat, it's a tool. I am excited to see how your skills in VR improve over the course of this series!
@@PanzerGuy Good point. and it's a very good tool! Helps me for sure! Thanks! Just dropped episode 2 =)
This is an awesome reaction, bravo lol
Wow I had no idea that use of the hardhats.
@@beyond_xen The Quest 2 is a perfectly good way to experience VR for the first time! (I used the Q2 for HL:A as well and it rattled my brain!)
I encountered Jeff for the first time and the episode aired today. Oh my it was crazy!
oh that was very fun reaction, welcome to the world of vr, the most immersed you can be while looking at a tile floor texture, where ADS and reloading become actual skills you have to learn, hope you have fun, you've earned a sub.
A couple tips from a decent vr marksman:
*_Sight picture_* : remember all three prongs level and an equal distance apart.
And a few extra that won't come up in this game but here you go:
*_Breathing_* : if you need to hold your breath, hold it OUT not in, don't know why this helps, probably something about muscle tension, but it does.
*_Bracing_* : With two handed weapons, try to brace your elbows on something to steady them, in your case the chair arm, in mine my chest or my kneee.
Happy hunting!
Thank you so much for your super valuable insight and tips! And thank you for your subscription!
I had my first crazy experience with Jeff in this game and shared the episode today. 👀
Welcome to VR community!
Thank you!
15:28 I haven't played alyx but I imagine that is your vr boundary and or a boundary that wont let you look through walls.
yeah, I've since learned my VR boundary is not visible to y'all, but the game boundary is.
I feel a big boost now!
loved your video! it's really funny to see you panic after having already experienced this game. hope a new episode comes out soon!
Thank you! Episode 2 just dropped!

Hope that's not a spoiler)

Haha so I'm finding so! Thanks!
Also I really enjoy watching you play this game. Can't wait for your next up load.
Thank you! Happy for your eagerness!

Dude this was great fun! Btw you missed heaps of resin so far, but that all good for a first time playthrough. They are pretty sneaky with where they hide them sometimes.
Good to know - I figured I did. Thank you.
For the wood across the doors, you can use both hands to pull them off
LOL - I remember my first time with VR. Your reactions are familiar. Red Matter and especially Red Matter 2 are also great vr games.
Thank you! Definitely on my wishlist!
This was totally me when I tried Quest 2, HLA, 2 years ago. I still love VR but I wish we had more Alyx Graphic / Gameplay games. I got a quest 3 when it came out. It makes this so much better. I'm so happy your experience is so great! We need more VR players.
It's so nice to hear you say that! Thank you! Maybe we'll get a HL3 now.
5 Things I wish I knew when I got my first headset:
-Get a big fan to blow some air in your face to reduce motion sickness and VR face.
Thanks!

Thanks for watching, Dad! Yeah, the gravity gloves are so ... handy! xD And yeah, the cheetos - I don't know why I thought that - hahaha!

I like to see when people are happy about VR.
In case you don't know it yet,
there are excellent VR mods for Half-Life 2 + Episode One and Two on Steam,

This is like time traveling to 2016 and putting someone in a Quest 2.😅
Cool thank you! I did try my way around Google Earth and it was indeed very cool. Especially standing in space and turning the globe. That felt weird.
You can also teleport up the ladders
Alyx in VR is truly a peak into the future.
It is so sad that we don't have more titles like it but the fact that it exists and we can play it is good enough for me
Truly agree! Thanks

And save as much as possible

you can open cabinets or look in things like buckets for loot
"It's all 3D." BX said in awe.
"Always has been." Corporal Shepard responded.
I love this.
If you get motion sickness. one that help me was to think ahead where you are going to move and how.
You can use two hand to better aim/recoil like in real life
Thanks for the tips! Much appreciated!
Using VR is the first time in so many years I've been excited for gaming again. For so long flat screen games have been so boring to me. Nice video! Btw, the gun in vr is an actual object, so you need to make sure the barrel is also pointing to where you want to shoot. And if you need a shooter to learn, can recommend Pavlov VR
Also, when you see an item glowing with yellow that means you can throw it towards you, you dont need to manually pick up everything
I need to see your reaction to the end of the game! Great video!
Btw, you should grab the gun with 2 hands to have a better aim
It's definitely planned! I want to share my entire experience of this game.
@@beyond_xen fantastic!
@@edmtrip Episode 2 just dropped ;)
Great Vid, thank you
Thanks for watching!
You also definitely need to try Into The Radius! So beautifully done.
Thank you! I'll never run out of games to try with all your people's suggestions. Yay!!
FYI. You can draw on windows with markers at the beginning of the game and feed the bug in the jar.
Wish I had known that when I started. That sounds like that would have been fun to react to. Thanks.
Was funny he skipped the markers and window part, then later was saying “sorry but I will be taking in every detail”.
This was a sick video! I have a list of some of the best vr games i can come up with and they're worth checking out:
Boneworks
Bonelab
Blade & Sorcery
Hellsplit Arena
Vertigo 1 & 2
Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners
Looking forward to more vr vids :)
Yes, it's very different than clicking the mouse on a cross. ;-)
Also: Yes, on my first playthrough, I also made lots of wrong upgrade choices. But the game is very much worth replaying. 🙂
@@FlorianFahrenberger Yes, definitely planning to replay!
half life alyx is such a good game to get into for first game
Your Enthusiasm makes me want to get VR for myself
Dude nothing could prepare me for how cool it was on my first few days. Totally recommend!
I absolutely love watching people, pop their VR cherry… Same reaction everybody has! It’s only just beginning dude…
Thank you Adam! Thanks for being here. All of you are so awesome.
Welcome to the world of VR. The fun is just beginning.
Thank you for the warm welcome!
I was planning to commit on your latest video but the page isn't letting me. Maybe you could consider getting some better headgear for your headset. I reckon many other players in quest 2 have switched their headset because they're starting to feel pain after a while.
''this looks important'' the useless prop next to the ammo crate
🤣 🤣
With a better headstrap, (preferably a battery strap), the headset will be much less pressure on your face since it'll be much more balanced.
i paused this at one second in. because I mainly came here to congratulate you.
you can grab the planks and pull them off
That was good fun to watch, but increbly frustrating to watch you spend 5 mins playing with the gravity gloves, only to immediately start struggling to pick up things from the floor once they let you loose 😂
Great vid anyway!
Yeah I guess my brain is so literal, I expected that I should only use the gravity gloves when needed. Lol
@@beyond_xen Hahah yeah I get it, it just made me laugh!
Really entertaining video anyway, man!
@@CDMaccles Thank you. Stay tuned for more! I laugh at myself too.
btw u dont have to shoot the planks, u can grab them out the way
Haha thank you for letting me know!
@@alanharrington Good to know. Perhaps I'll try it some time. I don't know of a way of sending a direct message, but thank you though.
he is so happy thats so cute
If you want to have a headset that is so comfy. Get the bobovr for quest 2. That thing is amazing and so comfortable and lets you play longer. And it has backup batteries.
I've thought about it. I tried a Kiwi Elite off camera, but it wouldn't fit with my headset I play with. I wonder if the Bobo would have the same bulky issue? Seems like it just looking at it. Otherwise, I'd probably go ahead and buy it. Maybe I'll think of something.
@@beyond_xen the bobovr uses a different strap design and i haven't had any issues fitting my headphones over it
@@beyond_xen oh the Bobo is a halo style so it fits the head and let let's you sit the quest off your face so you don't get all pressure like other headed straps.
Thanks!
Hell of a first VR game, probably the best.
Yeah this is an amazing game. So glad it was my first. Half Life holds a special place in my heart as a new fan of the franchise. Thanks for watching! More episodes coming!
Dude over here living in 2020.
Welcome friend. It will be hard to play flat first person games after this.
Thank you. That's what I'm thinking too 😅
