    Discovered you late Roy, and catching up! I am much the same age as you, a lifelong commuting cyclist with a few tours, but now cycle too little since retiring. I'm inspired, educated and encouraged by your videos to get out and cycle more again. A Ribble CGR e is on my wish list now too. Thank you.

      Thanks, Tony, we’ve just got back from the Cantii Way. Interesting ride but still TWOTR is the best so far. I’ve a lot of footage to edit but this video won’t be as chatty as we were a group of four with only two radio mics, so quite a different dynamic. Let us know when you ride TWOTR and how you get on.

      @@RideWithRoy I look forward to seeing the Cantii Way, and what the under tyre terrain is like.
      After a few days of rain would you say that TWOTR would be significantly affected under tyre or is it mostly hard surfaces?
      Yes, I'll certainly let you know how I got on after the trip.
      Thanks again Roy 👍

    Hi from Oz
    Lovely set of three videos from Way of the Roses. Hope to be there in 2023 to complete this ride or C 2 C plus Lejog.
    Would greatly appreciate details of your audio visual equipment so I can create some memories.

    • @RideWithRoy
      @RideWithRoy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      G’day, Ian. Not good for an Aussie to be Crook, mate 😀 I’m pleased you enjoyed the Way of the Roses videos. I use a GoPro Hero 9 black. I use a chest mount for the riding shots and an Ulanzi handheld tripod for the talking to camera shots. The latest GoPro’s have great stabilisation which is essential for riding, but the sound quality lets it down, especially with the media mod. I use Boya BY-XM6-S2 Wireless Microphones. We wore one each so it allowed clear voice audio even if we were riding apart. For editing, I use DaVinci Resolve. This is an amazingly professional package, with more tools than I’ll ever use, and it’s completely free. For something like LeJog you will need to charge batteries on the go. I use an XSTAR GP2 portable charger that will charge two GoPro batteries and give a total of 12 hours GoPro time from one charge of the unit. I’ll be reviewing this in an upcoming episode. Finally, I’ve just added a DJI Mini SE to my kit. This records in 2.8k and the video is superbly crisp. I’m just getting used to using it but I’m already smitten. In fact, you’ve given me the idea to make an episode about my AV kit. Good luck with planning the trips and I hope we get to see the videos you make.

      That’s a very helpful reply. Just what I needed to know. I’m just starting out with this stuff and have bought a DJI action 2 dual screen with the remote extension rod/ remote.
      But the microphone has been a gap!
      I’ve been impressed by your use of the chest harness and am talking to DJI about a new harness for the action 2 which is due ‘soon’ … we’ll see how that works out!
      So, thanks again.

    Took me back to the time I did it in Sep 2011. There had been heavy rain just before I started the ride and I had to turn back at Gressingham as road was flooded. (Added 12.5 mls to the ride). For some of the time I had a strong back wind that even blew me up some of the hills, but unfortunately not the one out of Settle!

    Hi Roy,
    I’m lucky enough to live in the village of Clapham, which lies on your route at the foot of Ingleborough. It was great to see you progressing through my home cycling territory. Glad you liked our little rise out of Settle, and my regular bike café stop in said town.
    On a personal note, I’d like to thank you for introducing me to the Ribble CGR-e e-bike. I’ve suffered from atrial fibrillation for some 20 years, probably a result, I gather from the professionals, of my over enthusiastic athleticism in my youth. All through last year I found your videos very therapeutic as I awaited my third cardiac ablation treatment in 8 years. Glad to say I’m now ‘fully recovered’, and with the help of my fantastic e-bike I am regularly cycling the territory you characterised in your excellent video. Yes, lots of undulations here - even on a modest ride, the climb surprisingly adds up and regularly amounts to 1800m or more on a 25 mile ride. A few weeks ago I passed a significant milestone for my 7th decade of 30 miles with 2600 ft of climb. There’s more in the tank yet for another day later this summer. Don’t let anyone say e-bikes are cheating! I joined my first cycling club in 1971 and my e-bike has got me back in the saddle after an enforced year out during my recent AF interlude.
    Talking technically about my Ribble CGR-e; on the hills around here I use 100% settings on all three power levels and can reliably attain 40+ miles from a single charge of the battery. This means rides on these hills are still physically demanding, but importantly, achievable for me. On the roads and tracks that characterised your start in Morecombe I would use the ‘eco’ setting and achieve a much higher mpg.
    Thanks for your excellent review; I love my Ribble CGR-e, (and, as I’m contractually obliged to say, my wife too).
    I’ll look forward to the second and third instalment of your TWOTR ride.
    All the best,
    Tony H

    • @RideWithRoy
      @RideWithRoy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great to hear from you, Tony, and I’m pleased the Ribble is keeping you in the saddle. That’s good range with those climbs.I rarely hear the e bike is cheating comment any more, but when I do I always counter with ‘tell me who you are cheating?’ Which usually confuses the accuser. The only thing I don’t like is when e bikers record their rides on Strava and don’t change the the ride type to E Bike. I wish you better health and many more years of enjoying that wonderful cycling countryside.

    I live just outside Lancaster, not far from the bridge that Wendy ducked under, that she did not need to. I have been cycling that path for nearly 20 years and still duck. Never completed the Way of the Roses but have been talking about it recently. Had heard that the hill out of Settle was a pig, I was hoping it was an exaggeration, E Bike territory for me for sure. This is a lovely part of the UK for cycling, Lakes to the North, Pennines to the East, the Bowland Fells and the flats of the Fylde to the south, interesting to see some familiar local sights on You Tube.

      Hi, Susan. I’m running Schwalbe G One Allround tubeless. In summer I use 700c and in winter 650B. The 650B’s effectively give me a lower gear and more clearance under mudguards. Both in 38mm. They work well for most surfaces but not so good in mud, but I don’t do mud 😀

    Stunning scenery! I saw the same scenery around the same time, therefore fully appreciate Wendy's "wow" comments, I believe the route between Settle and Clapham is the same for the Pennine Cycleway as well as TWOTR, I rode PCW south to north during the same week that you did this, at the end of the day that included the common section I said to myself it was the best day ever on a bike, I couldn't decide if the following day replaced it in first place or took second place, but equally excellent riding. Can't wait to see part 2.
