      @@montireddragon927well personally, colouring the lineart should be easy, In my case maybe you could try to alpha lock your line art layer, and just colour it with the colour you want (you SHOULD have your colour and lineart layer separated 😅) and in terms of easy access to the colours, im not too sure as most of the time I use the eye dropper

      I would recommend using reference a lot for that. I'm often get stuck with no inspiration so I just use reference for interesting poses or just something that would get me drawing and not just sitting there empty.

    • @LinesSensei
      @LinesSensei  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +87

      that is an excellent request, and I absolutely plan to do bodies in motion and perspective, that's going to be after level 1 which was just getting people familiar with the form before we start doing anything to adventurous with it.

      Amazing, thank you! I would also greatly appreciate an advice on how to practice to get good at drawing these poses and characters in general. What to draw and how detailed? Do studies? Cram croquis? Is photo reference a must? Can I learn from stylized art (manga/anime -- this is my goal) and just bridge the gap with real anatomy reference? Etc.

    I am a little confused by this because Proko put the thought in my head that the brow and side plain touch so I have been using that to figure out where that side plain would go and how far it expands but that rule does not seem to apply here and I was under the impression it applied and worked for everything😅

    • @LinesSensei
      @LinesSensei  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      So nothing absolutely works for absolutely everything. Proco's method works and it works great. My method also works OK. But with any method you are going to find cases where what you want to do, and what the method accommodates will not always meet up. so always treat any method as a starting point and be willing to work outside of it

    This works for everything except Toriyama’s dragon ball art style. Not only are there a ton of iterations, a bunch of Dragon Ball character face anatomies even literally bend space time and break 3D dimensions. Their faces are also scrunched in the middle unlike other art styles, so I had to un-learn everything I practiced before in order to even grasp the fundamentals of Toriyama’s art style.

    Idk, I can't really follow the actual demonstration ("Female Head instruction") at all. The "channels" are super vague and the audio is like at least 10 seconds off from what is currently happening in the video, making it super confusing to try and follow.
    And then I can't even get the same result anyway cause it's not a video about drawing hair or stuff. Feels odd to not show the result as nude heads here.
    Feels like that should be the part of the video where what's broken down into small parts before gets combined, while re-emphasising each part, but ends up just speeding through it or something
    But judging by all the other comments guess I'm the only one with an issue here

      That's really good feedback, the audio being out of sync I'm not sure what happened there that's something I'm still working on, I'm still fairly new to video editing and publishing.
      As far as the breakdown into smaller more easy to digest pieces, that's also something I'm working on so I'm glad to hear the efforts going to the right place.

    This breakdown makes everything so much easier and stress free to think about. Starting out as an artists is so hard when you don't know anything and there's so much noise of videos and tips and rules and guidelines as soon as you try to learn that it can just overwhelm me. This shows clearly that even if I don't want to do full on realism it's still safe and correct to learn these guidelines and specific fundamentals. This removes so much headache of trying to figure out what the right thing to learn is without scrambling from one thing to the next and giving up.

    @RyukenAtrineas หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Heads are certainly tricky. I thought I was doing great heads on my own, but then I see there are so many ways they can be better. Yet, even with this tutorial, I feel like I'm struggling to really get these right. Especially the eye line, brow angle and such. And it's weird, because he explains it perfectly fine, so I can't understand why mine just don't seem to come out like these. I also don't really know where to place the eyes, exactly. I notice on some of the sketches here (male faces), the eyes are on the eye line, but the second one is below it, the third one is above it. Does that kind of thing just involve knowing the character you're drawing, or is there a method I'm missing here?
    I know some things just take practice, but if I practice doing it wrong, that's not gonna help.
    Also, question, would it be beneficial to "reverse engineer" the techniques shown here, in the sense of trying to apply some of these guide lines into the kind of method one may have self-taught themselves to see if the shapes hold up and slowly make adjustments as needed? Or is that not a viable tactic for learning this? It's just a thought I had while practicing.

    • @LinesSensei
      @LinesSensei  หลายเดือนก่อน

      So those are both very good questions.
      On the first question about placing the eyes, if the eyes are further up the head it will give the face a very stoic or brutish appearance, end of the eyes are placed lower down it will make the face look more feminine or more childish.
      Pretty much any height is valid, but understand that it will stylize the face and also produce a different impression in the viewer.
      As far as reverse engineering the process goes, I'd encourage you to take on any parts you feel work modify them in any way you see fit, everything I go through in my videos is a suggestion what you do with it and how you apply it is going to be up to you to decide.
      I hope that helps

    Can you please give some advice regarding your pressure sensitivity settings? I have a consistent issue why my drawings don’t end up well due to me not being able to effectively vary my line width, though I really struggle with finding settings I can adapt to. I’m not even sure what kind of curve I should go for, and I haven’t made any decent progress in a couple of months because of this. Any help will be extremely appreciated!

    • @LinesSensei
      @LinesSensei  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So I don't have pressure sensitivity controlling line width. For me the pressure sensitivity only controls the transparency of the stroke. So for my line art I just have high smoothing standard thickness the entire way, and then I have a second pass with no smoothing on the same brush where I add danca bits in all the crevices and darkest spots to simulate ambient occlusion. But none of these really require anything from my pressure sensitivity. The only steps that do need prices sensitivity some of the effects later on and some of the shading and erasing

    i like this method and i'm going to try and practice it, but feedback on the video: it feels like sometimes your spoken steps are out of sync with your drawings. Like at 11:22 your saying to draw a line down the centre line of the face, but the illustration shows you drawing lines down the side of the face. then at 11:28 your drawing another horizontal line, but by the time your talking about this step, the drawing has already moved on.
    I think its fine to have the demo just be a sped-up recording of clip studio, but it'd be nice if you sped up or slowed down the footage in your video editor software so that it stayed in sync with your spoken steps.
    I'd also recommend trying to draw more diagrams and things on the side. 'the eyes should be half way down the full length of the head'. ok but what constitutes the full head? like, yeah i'm pretty sure i know what you mean, but its just another little hurdle that's making it harder to tackle the major hurdle of following the video and drawing the head.
    Otherwise nice video, like usual. i love your art style and you seem to upload really frequently, so i'm looking forward to seeing what you put out next.

    I found it a little difficult to follow this one. I think because your initial covering of the guiding principles is said at the same speed as the following commentary on it. Maybe my adhd devalues that information because it feels like you're itching to get onto something else. But once i slowed it down and went back a few times there are some great insights here. I noticed that often I confuse the jaw bone and the cheek bone, because one or the other is often hidden behind the face or is not part of the outline in front of the face, understood this by observing your use of the jaw thirds

    Thanks for the video! You definitely know what you are talking about and you are very thorough with your explanations. I feel like I learned a lot!
    One request / criticism that I would like to share is that I find myself struggling to follow along some times due to the editing. There are many times where the stage in the drawing that you are in is either behind or after the commentary.
    For example, I really struggle to follow the female head instruction section because it is not clear which line you are talking about.
    I also think that it would help to annotate either through editing or in clip studio which lines and shapes you were referencing. For example, which line is the brow line? Which line is the caved in line? etc.
    I found myself having to do that myself because I just wasn't sure why certain lines were drawn, and then which line is which.
    Either way, thanks for the lesson!!

      I absolutely do plan on making a video about distance and atmospheric perspective. This use of atmospheric perspective local to the figure is not something that actually happens it's just an artistic choice you can make but it functions on the same principle.
      Essentially the further away something is more particles in the atmosphere light bumps into its way making it more blue less contrasting and less saturated.

    • @LinesSensei
      @LinesSensei  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      So, i set the flats layer as the selection source, and then I set the magic wand the only reference the selection source layer. CSP has this, so does Sai.
      some software like PS doesn't, but in that case you can just set the magic wand to only reference the active layer, and then switch to your flat layer when you want to make a selection.
      Then switch back to whatever layer you're working on.
      one bit of advice that can help is make sure you lock your flats layer or you will accidentally select it and then start painting on your flats instead of painting on your shading or whatever layer

      The eyes will be in the midpoint of the head, if you draw them slightly above that line the figure will look brutish and caveman like. If you draw them below that line they'll look more childlike or more feminine.
