    UPDATE: After some more investigation, even though these Dolphin switches are the most quiet, they do not always play nicely with Gamer Fingers. It's as if the metal pins aren't thick enough to make full contact with the GF pins below, preventing it from fully bottoming out to activate the leaf. This means there are "dead zones" or at the very least, inconsistency between multiple presses. Like, they activate 80% of the time, but that's going to be sufficient for frustration-free play. I didn't notice it the first time because I must have been hitting dead center. But knowing this now, I would NOT recommend these switches. Gamer Finger Durock Dolphin is disqualified.

      @@wakarenok I haven't yet. They should work, but now I'm a bit jaded with Gamer Fingers. I'll try some more when I redo this video down the line (I need to mash and make more noise to really simulate a true play session). Anyway, thanks for watching.

      Did you ever get to try to modify those dolphin ones I was really looking into them but not with the game fingers with other buttons compatibility because my wife is a super light sleeper and man it sucks when you have to game at a certain place over certain amount of noise and all I play is fighting games

      So I am too poor for gamer fingers, but the Crowns have a similar problem. The problem is non-speed keyboard switches tend to have an actuation point around 2.0-2.2mm and a total travel distance of like 3.8-4mm. The problem is arcade buttons traditionally only have a total travel distance of like 2mm. So in order to preserve the feel/speed of arcade buttons they limit the total travel distance to around 2mm, and use speed switches which activate around 1.0-1.2mm.
      So if you use non-speed switches you can barely activate them when bottoming out. The way I solved this on the crowns is i ripped off small pieces of a tissue, then using a needle shoved them into the cross-shaped grooves of the plunger that the cherry MX stem slots into. Effectively this ensures that the stem of the switch is always partially depressed even when you aren't pressing the button, reducing the actuation point.
      It is certainly possible there is an electrical issue. Although I think there is a good chance the actuation point of the switch is simply too close to the total travel distance of the button. So i would suggest stuffing something into the plunger and seeing if that solves the problem.
      Probably better options than tissue, but I am still in the process of building my first fight stick, and since I had a box of tissues nearby when I first recognized the problem that is what I went with. If I was looking for a more permanent solution I might use plumber's tape. As I feel like small squares of plumber's tape would be more consistent across buttons than trying to shove in random bits of tissue.
      However I am pretty sure I am just going to stick to some version of speed switches as I don't think the switches are too important. Most the noise is from bottoming out. But unlike on a keyboard, the switches never actually bottom out on an arcade stick. The button housing bottoms out first, preventing it.

      I ordered durock daybreaks which are pretry similar to the dolphin where after the daybreaks didnt work, I had the idea of keeping the buttom housing part of the mx speed silver housing and the stem and just taking the durock top hosuing and part of the stem where the it makes the switch quiet and i achieved the same results of quietness while also having the same actuation point of the mx speed silver

      Pretty close! Gravity was second place in first group. The Punk Workshop ones came in 4th imo (my wife said third place, but w/e). Really the GF and OSBMX were clearly in a category by themselves though. But, that's not to say that if I didn't change the switch to something in the PWS, that it couldn't be the best. Get the PunkWorkshop standard buttons (non-slim variant), slap in any linear switches(standard ones, not low profile), then add a rubber o-ring to the cap(in fact I added 2 to reduce total travel), and you get top tier silence on par with the gamerfinger dolphin setup.

    I swapped my Hori rap4 for the OBSFE 2nd gens and the silent JLF lever and the difference was night and day. The newer style of plunger on the OBSFE's really helped retain the feel of pressing the button without the dampening from cushions. While the switch in the test may have been louder, I feel that not having the button contact the bottom of the housing is the real benefit for the OBSFE's and takes alot of the punch out of the sound. Especially if you're sitting across from your spouse while they have headphones on.

    • @HushMySweet1
      @HushMySweet1  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I agree. The OBSFE actually weren't bad despite their "final placing" ...If someone needed silent buttons, I feel like they couldn't go wrong with any on that final list (with the exception of Crown; even with the switch change, they weren't what I what consider silent). I switched my sanwas for Crowns and I love em, but I find them infinitely more loud. Thankfully it's not a problem. But it's not so much in the click of the button, but the way it reverberates in my case, it's a loud bassy thud. So the way the impact resonates is something that will depend on the enclosure material and stuff too.

    • @HushMySweet1
      @HushMySweet1  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I agree. I like the feel but even with the Cherry MX speed silver switches, it's not a quiet button because of its construction and how it bottoms out. Feels great, but even with a super quiet switch, I couldn't get the volume of them lower. All good though, I kinda like their sound.

    • @HushMySweet1
      @HushMySweet1  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I had a few issues with some of these switches after the fact, so I don't necessarily recommend changing from the stock in the case of GF and Crown. GF seemed to remain about as quiet as stock and Crown 202 seemed to remain just as loud (has to do with the housing construction so even totally quiet switches won't help it not produce noise in some capacity). They were peach switches in the OSBMX buttons. You could change switches in that one easier without it affecting its performance imo. And then, to answer your question sort of, I felt Hori buttons had pretty short presses / low actuation.

    • @HushMySweet1
      @HushMySweet1  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You likely won't need a video. Gently use a precision screwdriver or chopstick or something and push up on the circle in the center bottom of the original GF switch and then pop it out. You can remove the button cap before or after you do that. Then, you'll see that a GF takes a normal key switch. It will take many kinds by default. Just line up the switch prongs and insert into the button housing. They really only go in one way. But, on some switches like the Durock dolphins you saw here, they have two plastic stabilizing prongs on the bottom of the switch button housing. They will prevent you from just inserting this switch into the GF because there are no holes for the prongs to go. So, you'll need to use a multitool or a set of clippers or whatever and cut off the prongs flush with the bottom of the key switch housing. Then, just insert the switch into the GF like you would normally and reassemble. Good luck!

      I haven't used them enough to have a strong opinion and I only have these low profile ultrathin versions. The originals may feel slightly different, IDK yet. Modding the Dolphin was just cutting the little stabilizing prongs off of it so it would fit, so pretty easy, and would have to be done with them to fit in the Crown as well (I actually had to do the same thing with the Bobagum). I cannibalized a Bobagum switch and installed it myself, but Crown 202 and GamerFinger can both be pretty finicky with non-stock switches. When I was done, I felt it wasn't worth the effort (no difference in sound), and in the case of the GF switch change, it didn't work 100% flawlessly which ruins a fighting game experience. Probably, But! I didn't try them in Crown 202s. I think the way Crown 202s are constructed, switches aren't going to matter as much as other buttons. They are going to be as loud as the default just because of how they bottom out. Like, the noise is coming more from the housing/construction than from the switches, so it just didn't seem to matter when trying to reduce noise. IDK.

      The Gamerfingers felt like they always do and I didn't notice any real tactile difference with the switch change. I think GF feel a slight bit of mush naturally, but definitely not to the mush levels of the silencing pad. If you liked them before, you'll like them after.

    Can I inset the dolphin switches into the crown 202 cases? Does it have to be gamer finger?

    • @HushMySweet1
      @HushMySweet1  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You could, but the more I messed with them, the less I liked changing the switches in either the Crowns or the GFs. It seemed like there were missed inputs and the different, after-market switches didn't seem to play nice 100% of the time after a press (which is completely unacceptable in a fighting game). I didn't notice it during testing, but knowing what I do now, I wouldn't mess with the switch changes. Also, I'm pretty convinced that even the quietest switches would not help the Crown 202 just because their construction means a lot of the sound is produced from the housing interaction and not the switch itself. If you want quieter buttons, then go with silencing pads, stock GF, or those 3d-printed wild card ones.
