I just bought one and im enjoying it, well for the most part cause I do find that there is more "hissing" or white noise then i like to hear. I just bought the amp reviewed here and I'm mostly digging it but I find a tad more white noise then I'd like. Apparently the Katanta has a noise cancelling feature to reduce that and it sounds appealing but I'm of the same mind as you, I don't want all the bells and whistles. I like the straight forwardness of this amp. So did you buy, what do you think?
Valve amps have a sweet spot that usually requires turning them very loud to get there. I saw a Led Zep cover band recently and the guitarist had a very nice JTM 45 and 4x12 cab but it sounded horrible because the club was too small to get the amp cooking without deafening everybody. Conversely I saw a band where the guitarist was using a small Marshall combo that sounded very good. I went to have a closer look assuming it was going to be a DSL or something but it turned out to be a ...MG 30.
Personally I don't like the channel 2 overdrive tones on these Marshall MG series but the clean channel takes drive pedals really well. You put any good Marshall-in-a-box type distortion or OD pedal in front of these and they sound great.
@jorgeSalas loved this demo! I had a question.. what is the difference between the FX Button and the External FX Button? I assume the FX Button if for he built in effects (chorus, flange etc.) if that is the case what does the External FX do? Thanks!

I have a Roland JC-40 and am looking for a Marshall that would pair well with it. Hard to know without getting to try it in person, but there's no stores near me that carry what I want to try. Mostly wondering about the MG50 and MG30.
I just picked up a Marshall MG30CFX and is pretty much in mint condition..for just $50 USD on Offerup.. And a week for that, also on Offerup, a 2000 Marshall ValveState AVT 2000 (Made in England) also in excellent condition for just $30 USD.. And I own a lot of amps, and the CFX is actually a very good sounding amp..I almost want to say that it gives my more recent purchase (Sweetwater Music) Blackstar Silverline Special 50 a run for its money.
@JorgeSalasGuitar I love it because like an all tube amp, it takes several seconds to warm up. I wish the reverb was more studio and not spring. Tones are good but not as good as the MG30CFX just because it offers more variety. I think after I take the ValveState to a guitar amp repair specialist, and there are three really good ones within reasonable driving distance, it'll get a needed clean up and new tube since i think it still runs the og tube. But considering its age, and that it was still made in England, it's a gem and a keeper! You won't get a deal like that for a ValveState 2000 AVT for $30 bucks. The guy who sold it to me was a Homie/Cholo and probably just didnt know any better. He could have sold it for more. But i love it, and it will make an excellent FX Pedalboard platform for those pedals I have, but never have reason to use.
Solid state can sound as good as tube.. it wont sound the same as tube but it can sound as good. What I mean is you won’t get sag or the same compression but u can work with pedals to recreate that. Either way if you can live without that the actual tone itself can be just as killer. Theres nothing wrong with solid state and i personally like how much more versatile they are and trouble free. I recommend a speaker upgrade bc thats the most important part of any amp and these come w cheaper speakers like the origin combos. When u eq the amp according to its needs and solid states do require different eq settings with a good speaker this could easily become a main gigging amp. Personally I’d save precious tube amps for studio recordings where the idiosyncrasies of the amp matters more. In a gig setting no one is going to care about your tone but you. And even then you can get killer results with solid states. They are arguably the best pedal platforms when you hit them through the clean channel with an always on pedal and two or three more gain stages.
@@JorgeSalasGuitar for sure but just remember tube snobs do exist and they will tell you that no matter what they can always identify tube amps and solid state blah blah. In a blind test i rly doubt you could tell the difference under gain. Thats most people as well. A cheap amp will sound cheap while one that costs more will sound great no matter whether tube or solid state. Take a jazz chorus for example. A 120 is the same money as a deluxe reverb reissue and they sound incredible clean and with pedals. Meanwhile a cheap tube amp like a bugera does not sound good. It’s all relative. One last thing… bass amps are good examples of a good solid state circuit and speaker. They are full frequency so when you plug a guitar into one they tend to have the fullness of tubes but even say a quilter combo which has a similar cabinet structure to a bass amp along with a good speaker tends to have that same fullness. If you haven’t tried it yet try plugging into a bass amp you’d be surprised with the results. After all the marshall and box circuits were designed to replicate the fender bassman which is a bass amp.
@@Coolbeans1492 well to be 100% honest with you, in my experience, there’s a huge difference in Tube and solid state. I would 100% choose tube amps over solid state and I can easily tell the difference. While there are GREAT solid state amps, I (personally) wouldn’t record with one or even gig with one. They are great for rehearsals or home practice imo. But you’re right, all relative.
I had the 30W version and found the OD1/OD2 channels largely unusable for gigging on a small bar where it was miked. The overall output of OD/OD2 was much quieter than Clean/Crunch channel. Does the 50W have this issue?
@JorgeSalasGuitar ok thanks, though. You could make a video about boss mkii,I will will watch it if u do am very curious to see the performance of this amp (which is a top tier amps As i have heard.)

hey man i just bought the same amp n the sound is really muffled and muddy no matter what eq parameters i have (or it has a slight difference but its still sound muffled) how can i fix this?

I don’t think so. I find the levels pretty good! 👍🏼
Hi, when you played on crunch channel with Gain at 100%, did you turn your guitar volume and tone knob to 100% as well?
Tone and vol knob is 100% throughout I believe :)
I was between boss mkii and marshall 50gfx, in the end I chosed the marshall.Did I made a big mistake?
Hmmm I can’t say for sure I haven’t played the Boss amps!
@JorgeSalasGuitar ok thanks, though. You could make a video about boss mkii,I will will watch it if u do am very curious to see the performance of this amp (which is a top tier amps As i have heard.)
@@bensok7503did you stick with the Marshall, I'm up in the air as I like the intuitiveness of the controls but I find there is more hissing, white noise then I'd like. Have you found the same. I heard the Kanata has a noise cancelling feature but I am not crazy over all the extra features.
Since i pressed it, it turned red and it is always like that, how do I make it work?
Why is John Dolmayan teaching me about guitar amps?
Do you ear some feedback noise when you get fron od1 to od2 by using the switch pedal? tks
Hmmmm there’s a BIT of feedback on Od2 if you push it crazy hard
I have the MG30DFX from early 2000s, is this similiar?
Sorry, I’m not familiar with the model from early 2000s
hey man i just bought the same amp n the sound is really muffled and muddy no matter what eq parameters i have (or it has a slight difference but its still sound muffled) how can i fix this?
Thanks for the comment. Hmmm if it’s that muddy, maybe try some kind of boost? What you heard on this video is what you got so I’m not sure what your settings are. Try playing with it some more.
@@JorgeSalasGuitar i had the same settings as you in the video, i really tried to recreate the sound i heard in your video (which sound really gound like every channel sounds good) but mine just sucks lmao i'm more of a metal player so maybe thats why, but even with your settings the sounds still sound muffled n od2 sounds really bad on mine, od1 a little bit less tho..
@@amano334 Man dude I'm sorry to hear that. I'd try the clean channel then putting a metal distortion before the amp. Try that?
@@JorgeSalasGuitar i thought about that or just sending back the amp for a boss katana100.. maybe its also just the time for my ears get used to this new amp i dont know, thank you for your help brother!! appreciate that
@@amano334 Best of luck to you! Thank you!
Why so much hate for the mg amps ?.sure that have plastic jacks but other then that I love them
Did it seem like I hated the amp? My bad, I don’t.
@@JorgeSalasGuitarprobably not there is just a ton of hate on this amp for some reason.
built-in loudspeaker sounds good?
No complaints. Switching out isn’t too difficult
@@JorgeSalasGuitar :)
Wait until the fan dies or the amp just stops working on the overdrive channel and you take it in to have it fixed . You will get it back but it will still cut out , I would never buy the 50 MG guess the others are ok . Yes I went through it never again !
Good thing it’s a cheap amp and I have two other main ones ;)
I’ve had it for 1.5 years and banged it up for practices. Still going strong!
I'm happy that your's is working well I liked the amps sound but I had bad luck with mine. Id buy a 30 or 15 but not the 50 again.
@@joeblowporkhead864 Maybe you got a bad one? I hardly use mine nowadays though
Hi there.......Is there a headphone jack on that amp......Thanks
Not sure I don’t have the amp anymore unfortunately:(
Yes there is a jack
Will Sqoe LP 500 sound good with this amp??
I don’t know what Sqoe is?
@@JorgeSalasGuitar It's a guiter brand. It's a HH guiter. It has two Sqoe humbukers. I want to know that will this guiter sound good with this amp.
@@MD.WalidIbneObaid No idea man
@@JorgeSalasGuitar Ok.
What was the level of volume and tone knob of your guiter?
Is it loud enough for hard rock playing with a band with a loud drummer?
Yes it is
@@JorgeSalasGuitarand can you connect your phone to jam with? And can you lower your phone volume and guitar volume with the knobs to get a good balance between the different sounds from the backing track and the guitar itself?
@SE9SE9 no it can’t do that
Can we use the CODE50 footswitch?
Good question… I don’t think so? Might have something about it online.
ask for this unit can be use for GIG?
Yes it can
do you think I can use it in live situation without problem with my drum guy? HAHAHAHA. 50w is enough?
Yes sir! It’ll be loud enough!
I have the previous version mg50 cfx...I played in studio with drums and it was loud enough...
How does the save button work?
It saves your preset
Is it MG30FX30w 1/10 ??
I don’t understand
Were you using a noise gate??
No sir 🫡
this amp sucks I hate mine

@@JorgeSalasGuitar yea once you've had the pleasure of playing thru a nice fender tube amp it's hard to find joy in a amp like this it's ok but not worth $500 but that's just my opinion...great channel my friend love your videos...
