I never saw Randy perform with them, but I caught a couple of concerts at Valley Forge Music Fair, and one in West Philly. So young, and brilliant musicians!
Pieces of a Dream is a great jazz group and they were hitting there stride when Bass player Cedric Napoleon left group. They had to reinvent themselves when that happened. I saw them live with Cedric and without. And without they were lacking that it factor and that has nothing to do with taking away from the rest of the group especially James Lloyd who is an amazing piano and keyboard player. It just makes it seem how much higher they could have gone if Cedric didn’t leave. They would have been the perfect jazz group if they remained intact with also adding Randy Bowland on guitar and meeting Eddie Baccus, Jr. sooner on Sax. But with that said they still are an amazing group and don’t forget Curtis Harmon on drums. R.I.P. Cedric Napoleon.
Oh, so glad you enjoyed it! Hope that you also saw that the whole concert is available - you should be able to play it in order, if you want, via the Playlist…th-cam.com/play/PLSjFMms_kmX4onzGHc239G67GKMA8_mxE.html
Yes, one of my favorites too! The other song where Cedric is really cooking with gas is Fo-Fi-Fo, also posted from this same concert - Have you seen that? He sings the h*** out of that song…
Grown folks music! Saw them in 85,…. These were the cats! Thanks for the memories,…
Saw this lineup many times. All of these cats were in the early mid 20’s at the time. So young but so so talented.

Jesus H Christ-On-Crutches... This was EPIC!
My favorite Grover Washington song, absolutely killed by these brilliant young musicians.
Was Norwood still in the group then?
Sorry, don’t know who that is. I’m pretty sure it was the three of them at that time: Cedric, James, Curtis.
That happened a few years later when they worked on the album "Bout Dat Time", released in 1989
James are you in the lab ?
