  • The Bechstein model L from 1927 is perhaps the most highly regarded baby grand ever produced going back to before WWII. This piano was rebuilt and refinished inside and out. The tone is rich and warm with remarkable sustain into the high register, and a fat bass that belies the size of this piano.

I'm convinced. The best sound ever, for my ears.

@@praddiemurrg Nah, it’s all proportional. If 5’ 6”” was good enough for Steinway then it’s good enough for me.

I definitely like the Bechstein sound. So much so the the morphed piano I developed using Pianoteq 7 includes Steingraeber and Bechstein presets, the Bechstein included for its brilliant high registers and an addition "something" in the bass on top of the solid Steingraeber bass.
    Thanks for uploading this!
    Cheers!

Terrific sounding for a 5'6" piano. I see on your website that it is $25,000 which sounds very reasonable for a Bechstein in good condition!

I noticed the warm tone of that piano when Robert was playing his theme in the introduction to the video. I think I would have known that something was up without even seeing the title of the video.

The Debussy was brilliantly played, and a wonderful choice to show off this piano! And when I didn't think you could wow me any further, then you played the Liszt!

Love to listen to you, either playing or speaking.. You sold a Gulbransen exactly like mine, the day after mine sustained some water damage to the front and keyboard. My piano has gorgeous wood also. Want to buy it ?

To me the upper register is beautiful but the lower sounds thuddy. Could it be the recording?

If it is an early Model L (165cm), then it was first produced in 1926, so cannot be from 1901. If we look at the serialnumber (something 57xxx can be seen on the video) then to average catalogues it really dates 1901 but that just cannot be if it is a model L! An expert should verify which info is incorrect :(

All pianos like that are easy to play. Theyre old and full of action. You can improvise and do things you previously didn’t know [you could do]. You can make left hand fugues in e flat major and make a beautiful masterpiece. Weve all been to a steinway piano store once and tried playing mozart on it. All that fancy talk about the interior, haha. They’re all like that. Steinway bosendorfer “Becheshetein” theyre aaaaaallLLL like that. All the Schiffs and Goulds and murray peraheeyas and what not are fucking frauds. The one truly great pianist is Alfred Brendel
