Best advice we ever got about attending the Balloon Fest, drive north of the event to the mountains, park, bring drinks and food, enjoy the show!!!
Sure enough they all flew right over our heads.....as we watched them set off in the distance along with the massive crowds!

@@elainemagliacane we have in-law family that live in Albuquerque, they said "people of Albuquerque don't attend the festival, that's for tourist, we go north to the hills at 5 am, get a spot and watch the balloons come right to them! Heck, we go in our pajamas!"
And sure enough, everyone was in their pajamas! LOL
I was a missionary there to 21 Indian children many years ago. Those balloons 🎈 are beautiful and so many. Neat seeing you were on the news. Thanks for taking us along.
They are "Native Americans". Give them their due. They were here before us.
To be fair about Albuquerque traffic, you are going to the biggest event of the year at the same time everyone else is trying to get there. Normally rush hours in Albuquerque aren’t even an hour long. It takes less than 15 minutes to drive from one end of the city to the other. One way to help beat the traffic is with Park and Ride. Also there is a bike path that runs all along the Rio Grande that goes to Balloon Fiesta Park.
There have been more than a few horrible accidents with balloons and power lines over the history of Balloon Fiesta. Luckily it has been a few years. But you’re absolutely right, Balloon Fiesta is an incredible experience and is hard to explain to anyone who hasn’t been there.
Oh we weren't saying this was typical traffic! The festival brings in SO MANY people!! Awesome!!
On an unrelated note, that bar in Siesta key pulled all the dollars off the walls and donated $14,000 for Bahamas relief.

I would go in a hot air balloon in a heart beat ! After all the years and all the high number of balloons this is the first accident, that is good odds in my mind compared to auto accidents every day. Thank you for sharing this glorious event !
Yes! Thank you! We did get some clarification that there have been other accidents, but overall safety record is really good!
I believe this video was taken at last year's balloon fiesta (2018). The part where you talk about the zebras, that's me running away to launch the next balloon! So happy you enjoyed your time there! It is for sure something EVERYONE should see if you have the chance.

We absolutely love the ABQ Ballloon Fiesta. We have lived here for about 3 years, have family that live here. It IS so worth the hassle, you should stay at the field and watch the balloons come back and land there. ABQ is known for the "box effect" which means they can land where they take off. They also have events each day at the field after the balloons launch. At the north end of the field they have the National Chainsaw carving Championships. It is amazing! Make sure you have a breakfast burrito while you are there. Awesome video, as usual! Subscribe to your channel, you have taught us a lot. We plan on full timing in a couple of weeks.

On Labor day weekend, I went to Colorado Springs, Colorado where they had a balloon festival with a lot of Balloons, same setup, close contact, etc. I got to the event at 4:30 just to figure out where it was located and was surprised to find parking lot attendants taking money. Then at 5:30 am food booths were open. Those events are spectacular. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Stayed across the street when we wentast year...well worth the stay there...you can venture out from there to visit things....and you can nap after the early morning wake ups....bucket list checked off...and we will go again....

Great Video! I was there in 1995 and not near as crowded. Went on a balloon ride on one called the Giant! We landed on airport runway and were dragged into a garbage dump it looked like. Had probably 5 people in the basket. Nobody hurt it was a blast!

We are hoping to be in PA to be with family over the holidays, but it will depend on weather there if we can do it, not really ready for cold and dont want to be in it for any real length of time. Will see how it goes.

Rides cost a couple hundred when it is NOT fiesta time, so i can only guess how much during fiesta in NM. The mountain you drove up is Sandia Crest. Gorgeous. Great hiking up there
OMG we just left the Balloon Fiesta on Monday. The best location to stay at is the fiesta park itself. Rates go from $50-$250 per night. We will be back next year and plan to stay for the whole week. Reservations open on 10/22/2019 for 2020.

My sister and her husband (from Arkansas) were at that festival. They must have been close to you at the Darth Vader balloon because her film is very similar to yours. They said they had a blast. Looks like you did too!🙂
I live in Britain and I have wanted to attend the Albuquerque fiesta for a long time. Though I have to say that I think you should attend Bristol Balloon Fiesta. Biggest free event in Europe. I could also spot a lot of my nation's balloons, such as the Emoji, the Boot and Puddles, Splash and Tall Steve the penguins,to name but a few.

Tom you mentioned Veterans discount . Are you a Fellow Veteran ? If so Thank You for Your Service . I was Air Force . I served 18 August ' 71 - 25 May ' 75 . Decades ago I went to an Air Show in upstate New York & I saw how hot air balloons are inflated & launched up in to the sky . Pretty fascinating & beautiful to watch . Have Cheri & you ever ridden in a hot air balloon ? If so how did ya's like it ?

Wilderness camping all around Albuquerque. Just go to any public area or park and cross the surrounding fence. Free tent camping twenty feet from our car.

This is my favorite week of the year😂 hopefully we get to go in 2021, 2020 was even worse without Fiesta. 12:40 we are the black and yellow balloon above your head. I have been going to the even since I was a baby. I am 19 now and working on my student pilots license. An accident happens at least once per year. With 600+ balloons in the sky at least one is going to do something wrong 😂

Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is every year beginning of Oct.
Im not an argumentive person but I lived in Reno when they had an air balloon festival or meet up. There were hundreds.
New Mexico is the hot air balloon capital of the world. People come from all over the world to the balloon fiesta in NM. Even when the fiesta is over, its not uncommon to see at least 10 in the air daily.
my sister owns her own balloon and travels from Connecticut for the festival. In Tampa, Fla, the balloons from Eureka Springs passed less than 50 feet over my house, scared the crap out of my dogs. But, honestly, they are so beautiful, hubby has height problems so maybe we will sometime, or maybe we won't.

I saw a large group of balloons come over Houston one time, it was a beautiful sight to see. I still think I’d rather be on the ground watching than in the balloon 🎈though!! Have Fun!!! 😃

How long do you sit on your footage? This was posted in October of 2019 but I know it wasn't recorded that year. I saw my balloon inflating in the back ground at the 9:20 mark and launching at the end when you were doing all the little clips. I did not fly at the 2019 Fiesta so I know you didn't record this that year.

When we went several years ago, we were told to park in a lot where they had shuttle buses to avoid the traffic.
Park and ride is an option but I prefer just coming in from tramway it's the fastest way

I could NOT believe you were even considering launching a drone for ANY reason. When I heard you say that, I thought you should be reported to the FAA as someone potentially causing a crash & endangering people's lives. I'm evaluating whether I should continue wuth this channel after that. You REALLY disappointed me with that; just never expected anything like that idea coming from this channel!😲
