I love that you think 830am is an early start! I had to laugh out loud at that--Our early starts are 5am - We loveing call those wake and drive days and I have to say, the roads are great that early, and we can get a lot of miles behind us when we have to. Otherwise our late start mornings when we are trying to make miles is an 8am start! Love watching your journey and experiences. Thanks for continuing to share your lives with us!

OMG.We felt like our trip from Flagstaff to Rockport TX was played in reverse watching this video. We stayed at the Benson Thousand Trails for Christmas week, stayed at the Keller KOA and had dinner with friends at Cracker Barrel and now staying in Rockport for the winter. And yes, was on that ferry with front row seats watching dolphins swim by and the long drive down Mustang Island beach. Needless to say we really enjoyed this video. Cheers.

We just stayed at a Cracker Barrel on the 85 in South Carolina and it was great. The freeway noise was noticeable but the breakfast was a good trade-off. Super nice people working there and they were super friendly and happy to "host" us overnight. Our 27" trailer with F250 fits well in a back spot.

Just watched this video and had to respond to your longest day request. Today and for the past 2 years, we limit our day to 500 miles max. In 2013, we had a family medical emergency and in one day, we covered 1,100 miles in one day driving. I would have stopped sooner but we couldn't find a place to stop for the night because everything was full. Every rests top and every truck stop was full and over capacity. I finally found a place to pull off for about 4 hours of sleep before finishing off the last 250 miles to Durham, NC.

YES! Texas! I have lived in Texas my whole life. Thankfully my parents love the ocean and growing up we were always down in Galveston or somewhere on the coast fishing. I have been to Matagorda bay several times just to go fishing (I have been thinking for a long time about buying an RV) and it is beautiful down there. :) I am glad you enjoyed your stay here! -- My longest ever travel day was in 2013 when my mom's mother died. They lived in Detroit, Mi. My sister needed to be back to work the day after the funeral. So My sister and I took turns driving back to Houston and we returned to Texas in 21 hours. That was a LONG drive but we made it.

I've never driven/towed an RV, but am no stranger to long distance/marathon driving, my longest single driving day covering 1100 miles. Started at around 6:30 am and drove until around 2:30 am. Crashed for a few hours at a rest stop and was back on the road around 7 am. This was the trip from Mt. Vernon, WA to Indianapolis, IN back in 1992 which I did in 23 hrs +/- (actual drive time, not counting the 4.5 hr sleep stop), only sleep stop was in Gillette, WY. I left my home in Mt. Vernon on a Friday morning and pulled into Indianapolis around 9 pm Saturday night. I was driving well over the speed limit most of the time and was very lucky to not get stopped/ticketed, and would not recommend anyone try to drive 2000+ miles in 2 days. Night driving is especially hard/dangerous, very easy to get hypnotized by the road rolling under your wheels when tired. I am not a gum chewer, but found chewing gum helps keep one alert while driving under extreme long drive situations.

I had a on road breakdown in Rocky Mount, NC a few years ago. Once it was fixed I was already delayed and towed my 5th wheel 670 miles from Rock Mount, NC KOA to Disney's Fort Wilderness. I dubbed it my Iron Backside tow. With limited vacation time we still do big towing days to get to some of our destinations, though try to break it up when we can and keep it under 500 miles.

I didn't realize your rig was so large! Not sure if it was that big before. Glad you have your son with you too! Family is very important right now!!
Also, if you find yourself in a bind many Walmarts will still let you stay there. Just ask the manager. They stopped it to get rid of trash. Many managers are still okay. They kick out the rest. Usually, you will find something you need. Many have said Cracker Barrels are better than Wal-Mart. Also, if you respect the managers they are all most inviting either place.

Another option for ordering food at a Cracker Barrel is using the DoorDash or GrubHub apps and select Pick Up instead of Delovery. They usually up the menu prices, but you can order because those apps work better than some of the apps or websites that the restaurants run themselves.

As Canadians, we've not yet made it to New Mexico, or Texas...so, one day! Unfortunately, with the border closed, we're stuck in one place...albeit at our home thankfully, with the Tiffin Phaeton sitting in our driveway, waiting either for the border, or better/warmer weather up here! That location on the beach in Texas sure looks inviting, so will look forward to that one day, but most of our time is spent in Arizona or Utah on our southern trips! Love the red-rock, and scenery. Stopped once in a Cracker Barrell near Flagstaff Az. a few years back, and it was great, other than waking up to snow on our step in the morning! Stay safe you three!!

Pulling our RV from Denver, CO to Nashville, TN I did an 1,100+ mile drive in one shot with short breaks for meals and rest stops. It was absolutely brutal and I'll never do it again but we were out of time and needed to get there. My wife was with me but she's too scared to pull the RV. We're right at 60' long with the truck and trailer. Plus, she definitely wouldn't want to do any of the driving during the night which was the final 6 hours or so of the drive. It took us something like 24+ hours to do this drive. She slept a lot during the day and was able to stay up with me during the evening to make sure I stayed focused and alert. Normally, when we are traveling cross country we try to keep our day to a maximum of 750 miles. The Grand Tetons and Yellowstone are a favorite destination for us and that's right at about 1,600 miles from our home. It takes two 800 mile driving days to get there but extending it to three would cause our round trip to be 6 days instead of 4 days and we want those extra 2 days to spend in the parks.

So far the most we have done in our Class A is 330 miles in a day. My pop could do 500. We probably could if need be but the second and third day would require less miles. I don't like driving at night. We've used Cracker Barrell several times and like the breakfast.

That CB parking lot is huge. It is the exception rather than the rule for CB. Most have 4-6 shorter RV spots in back. Makes it tough with a large 5er.

You guys could’ve totally stayed in NM. The quarantine requirement isn’t enforced, and private RV parks will let you stay without issue. We went on a circle tour of NM from Dallas the week of Thanksgiving and had a blast!

Too bad we missed you in Texas!
I’m not sure your information about NM is accurate. You can stay overnight or any length of time - but if you are planning to stay at all just keep to yourself. My niece attends college there and my sister stayed in a hotel there for a few nights to get her moved in. The state parks are closed but private rv parks are open.
Too late anyway. You’re in Sedona!! Have fun!!

We love Crackerdocking. The food is always great and there is always enough RV parking available. We also love Walmart parking because we take the opportunity to stock up. Our record travel days are 6-7 drive time hours so that can be up to.8 hours if we stop to make lunch.

On our three week vacation in 2018 pulling our 276 Cougar Fifth wheel with our 2015 2500HD Duramax, our first day of travel, we drove 615 miles to Alma Ks from Louisville Ky. Our first destination was Colorado Springs and Pikes Peak. Spent five days in CS and then traveled 412 miles to Kaycee Wy then 211 miles to Billings Mt. and from Billings Mt we traveled 115 miles to Cody Wy. (We kinda went the long way around to Cody Wy.. lol). We stayed 5 days and toured Yellowstone National Park and of course, Cody. From Cody we traveled 370 Miles to Keystone SD. Hello Bad Lands and Mt Rushmore. We stayed two days on Keystone and the there we headed towards home and traveled 714 miles to Cedar Rapids Ia. And to end the trip, 501 miles to home. Again this was in a three week span and traveled as much as we could to our first and major destinations. Was a beautiful and unforgettable vacation that God certainly blessed us with. Safe travels to you all. Many prayers and safe travels.

My record driving was from the West Coast of Washinton to Tiverton Ontario in 62 MPH governed tractor-trailer, loaded at 80,000Lbs left the about 4 PM Their time, got to Missoula Montana, called dispatch, that was early the next morning, called Dispatch to tell them I was short on hours, and all he said to me is they want those loads by 9 am tomorrow. I looked at the driver of the other company truck, loaded at the same place as me, his hours were in the same predicament, said to him do you think we can do it, and then did it, stopping for fuel once. Got to the delivery place in Ontario Canada at 8:45 Am the next day. Got on their Phone and told our manager that he can figure how to log this. In total, We covered 2960 miles in 2 1/4 Days

Port Aransas ferry story. Got out of US Army in 1974 ( yes I'm old) moved to Port A ( that's what we call it). First time on the ferry starting to go and a truck pulling a boat comes flying off the dock into the bay. The guy bob's up out of the water and says "my wife is going to kill me." Funniest thing ever. I'm the guy that passed Tom on I-10 back in time in 2020 when you guys headed west. Enjoy

We like to get to where we are going so we have more time to enjoy our holiday since we only get them in the summer. Calgary to salt lake to Reno just for food and gas. And Reno to San Diego or Las Vegas to Calgary Alberta Canada. We really wish we could travel more but with Covid-19 we are stuck in canada and maybe just our province for awhile.
