  • #Ad What size brush do you need to paint minis? I was challenged to paint something with a much bigger brush than I would ever consider and I chose the new Hernkyn Yaegir from the new Kill Team: Termination box! GW very kindly sent me the box out early so I could get a head start on making some content for you!
It was a bit of an eye opener using such a big brush for this - but it actually made the process more fun and I think a little bit quicker!

My man! It turned out so well! #allaboutthetip
I like the comment asking for a video using it after a few months of frequent use, +1 from us, too!
I have and old 3 and 4 that lost their tips years back, they still do good work with washes and heavy tasks, no such thing as a dead brush if its a high quality one.
It was great to meet you at UKGE, keep up the fantastic content!

Generally use a size 4 Rosemary & co to do the majority of the work, bar any eye lenses I do. Find they hold the tip really well, and hold enough paint to make sure if flows nicely from the tip.

Nice seeing Steel Legion on the model . As opposed to the base for a change. A nice colour 😊

Looks fantastic 🔥 It's a great set of minis. Brush control is a huge factor in painting. Big body sharp point ftw. Artis Opus & Raphael 8404 are great for that :). I also like you include substitutes in your videos. That's something that always grated me with painting tutorials when they feel restrictive in what you have to use.

I'm always nervous when it comes to getting new brushes. I wants for a rosemary & co kolinsky big size once any geez it was terrible. Never went to a fine point and hairs poking out in al sorts of places. I must have just got a bad one I reckon as I love used their series 33 range with good success before. It's real hit and miss buying online with any brush sadly. May try monument hobbies pro sable next. Heard good things about them

First one from monument hobbies size 2 was fantastic. Second one didn’t last a painting session lost bristles and would not keep a point.

I find the points only last for a few weeks. After that they just dont have the same shape that they used to. Tried all the tutorials. Been painting for decades. Same problem then as now.
How long do you expect a brush to last. Dont use "weeks/months" becauee thats too relative. If I paint once a week I could also get months out of a brush. How many minis do you think you get out of a brush? Dozen? 30? 50? More? I tend to get about a dozen out of a brush.

Awesome. Thanks for your videos. Your super clean style with vibrant colors is a breath of fresh air in this era of the "brown/black wash everything".
Your work with green is especially great. 💚

@1dwkjr using brush soaps can really help keep your brushes pointy for longer, I use The Masters Brush Cleaner and Preserver. You suds up and rinse the bristles a couple times, and then get a clear lather and work the brush into a point without rinsing. If the brushes are really gone, or seem to have dried paint near the ferrule, you can dip the brush into some rubbing alcohol to dissolve it.
Make sure that you aren’t keeping your brushes pointing straight up when not in use, as water running into the ferrule can break down the glue holding the bristles together, I like to keep mine lying on their sides.
You should only use cold water to rinse out your brushes, as warmer water can melt the glue.
Sometimes it can be better to block in your colors using cheap brushes you can buy in bulk, using more expensive brushes to clean up the edges. It also helps to have different brushes for detail work and washes.

@@goatmilk3527 thank you. I generally take pretty good care of my brushes, and I definitely get more use out of them than I used to.
I just feel like people sometimes give the impression that brushes are forever if you treat them right, and that's just not my experience at all. Brushes seem to have a lifespan, and while you can lengthen it with care, they will eventually expire. I'd like to get more data on how much use should be expected if the general care and maintenance component is assumed to be true.

    • @ThePaintingCoach
