Losing Traction CB650R

- CB650R 35KW 2022
- Too much throttle out of the corner on a wet road. And maybe went over the paint on the road, can't really tell.
- Traction control kicked in (possibly saved me, not sure)
- Factory Dunlop Tires (not the best wet performance)
Don't mind the overexposure, I'm ordering ND filters soon.
Yep, that TC saved you.
You sped up while on a corner what did you expect? The traction control worked right there that is why you didn’t slide off completely. Btw I do this on purpose on my cb650r. Cheers
Normally you can speed up in the corner, but the road was too wet i guess. Also, read the description, I mention the things you bring up
he literally mentions that he made these mistakes and that TC saved him in the video description
@@recticle4447 no, traction control just stoped beautiful bike drift 😂
welp raining and shiets, meh once got me on my cb600f.. shiesh mahn, my hands are shaking after tht
Tbf the traction control did a really poor job here, good TC should save this witout sliding at all, mabye the setting he used wasn't aggressive enough for wet road, idk, but you should definitly set it according to conditions before starting to ride
1. that paint on the road looks pretty rough -> shouldn't be an issue
2. TC definetly saved you xD
3. cold tires (dunlops aren't that bad ^^)
4. accelerating too early in the corner (you could lose traction on a 11kw bike like that aswell xD)
You probably ride longer than me and are a better motorcycle rider overall, but I can say this after looking trough the video. I've lost traction often in the wet rain as we have metal sewer covers and very thick paint layers sometimes in my area :). If that happened to me and I wouldn't have footage I don't think I could reprehend all my mistakes.
been riding for ~ 7 months on my gsxr 125 so I can't really relate to the power you got but defo seems scary
ride safe ^^
Been riding for about 5 months, so not that long :) Thanks for your comment!
The paint on the road is super slippery when wet and when taking the driving lessons and test for your license they even explain you to avoid them. Not everything is as it seems on video's.
@@cclphdfu new paint is slippery. This paint seems to have a rough texture as it is pretty old so I am assuming, that it wasn't the paint but the wet surface. In my area they don't remove the old paint but just paint over the old one creating super thick and basically glass-like smooth textures so I know what I'm talking about ^^
@@voidkid1159 ALL road paint is extremely slick in the rain, it doesn't matter how rough it looks. Even asphalt is slick when it's wet, if you don't believe me drop your foot down while riding and slide it along the wet pavement if you want to lose every bit of confidence you have lol.
Never ride over painted lines or anything metal in the rain if you can avoid it.
100% caused by the painted lines imo
Stay off throttle until you've straightened up, or just go for a higher gear than you normally would to decrease how abruptly torque is transferred to the tire. This wasn't any external factor at fault. Also tires makes all the difference in the wet, especially during autumn when it's both cold and wet :D
Thanks! i'll probably get new tires.
@@recticle4447 When it's soaking wet and cold like this, also try keeping the bike more upright while just moving your body/bottoms on the seat over to make the bike turn, that way you reduce the lean-angle of the bike in tight slow-speed turns while you still turn at the same rate.
Forgot I was responding on this account (this is my personal account) but thanks for the advice!
@@no_name4080 25Nm is enough torque for literally every naked bike, you can spin wheels with that. I’d still pick a 100Nm though if i could choose 😄
@@no_name4080 what
cold wet roads not good for motorcycles
Wet roads are bad for two wheel vehicles period!!
Wet floor, cold weather, 1st gear sped up cornering then lost traction. Luckily, the electric assist saved your rear tire lol.
Cold tires, not gentle enough on the throttle, and a 4 cilinder motorcycle.
Last winter my r1 did that in top gear on the motorway @ 75 when gave it a fistful, not sure if was diesel on the rd as well as the cold but saved it & it shit me up 2008 so no TC
its wet brother, cmon now
My advice is -> Start on older bike, without ABS, Traction and etc.
The idea is to crash one - two times and learn the hard way, because in really bad situations ABS and Traction could harm you.
People can go their entire life without crashing, stop that "you have to crash" nonsense
@@jessegm1 If you never get out of your comfortable zone - you will never crash - never learn anything more that you learned at your driving course
@@jessegm1 Hey man it's good to understand a persons opinion from thinking from their perspective. What he is saying is that most people that are very proficient with something have failed and fail a lot. And a really bad fail when you're in a motorcycle can and will result in a crash. Trying to figure out limits out in public roads is a whole other story. But you're correct there are people who know how to ride very well and haven't crashed ever.
@@jessegm1 People can go their entire life without stepping a foot outside of the door, stop that "get out" nonsense 🥱
You're absolutely right, the standard tyres are completely useless. I work at a Honda dealer and we have repaired 7 CB650R and CBR650R's that have either low-sided or high-sided on the factory tyres - just this season! Change them for something better, your confidence will improve massively.
The dunlops or the metzler roadtecs? I'm quite happy with the roadtecs. I can scrape pegs/knee when it's dry and they work even now at below 0 celsius. Never really needed any warming up either.
The Dunlop tyres are absolutely dog crap
@@ianisas What I saw in some other video was that Michelin was recommended.
@@orbarends I have Road 6's on my bike now and they seem like only a marginal improvement over the stock Metzler Roadtecs
Those tires were great and lasted forever!
which tires did you recommend for the CB650R?
I’m sure you did this on purpose, not to make this video but the sudden urge to blip the throttle and you listened to your inner thoughts. Count yourself lucky and learn from you mistake (not in the wet and certainly not in corners!) Ride safe 👌
On purpose? why? You don´t know the mononeuronal level of the riders out there dude....
@@Big1_ I didn’t mean it as in on purpose to almost have a crash but maybe he was playing with the throttle. It’s an instinct to want to know what the boundaries are… glad he is okay which is the most important thing
@@TEKKYTWO Do you know why in winter/rain ALL the bikes are stored in the Parking except a few scooters ?? Because the 90% of "riders" don´t know how to ride the bike in Rain and crashed one, two or more times in one moment of his life. That´s why.
@@Big1_ I ride all year round, no matter the weather
@@Big1_ but yeah idk where you are going with this statement 😅

TC on my CB probably saved my life a month ago, overtaking a tractor muck on road in middle I didn’t see while accelerating, if I had it off I was absolutely high siding and coming down in front of the bloody tractor,
Damn, lucky😯
wet roads, leans way to much and gases wayyy to much through the turn. Hell, even painted lines, dry and cold I'd say you gassed it to much through the turn. Slow it down, it's not a race.
Some of these intersections tend to have a little oil dripped on them from cars that stand still or move slowly, not only water making them slippery :)
Wet roads man. You have to remain smooth on everything, nothing abrupt. You increased throttle abruptly mid corner on wet roads.
This is in Leeuwarden right?
Klopt ja
What's with Honda and factory Dunlop? Have they got a deal with them to supply tires on new bikes? My NC42 also has fairly ordinary dunlops. Not ideal in the wet but seems to grip on hotter days.
Something similar happened to me, except I had deactivated TCS before because I was trying to train without it a bit on an empty parking lot... but someone called me on the phone and i took off while speaking trought the intercom, and forgot to rearm the TCS. I went down in a similar intersection. Stock Dunlops SUCK both dry and wet. Got myself some Michelim Road 6, lightyears better.
Lmao, happened to me often in Turkey, they have a weird slippery asphalt there.
Which country is it?
The Netherlands
You should only apply throttle again when you stop leaning further; you'll notice in your video that you're leaning in even more while already giving throttle. If you had applied throttle at your maximum lean angle, this wouldn't have happened.
Je moet pas weer gas geven als je niet verder gaat inleunen; je ziet in de video dat je nog schuiner gaat hangen terwijl je al gas geeft. Als je bij je maximale hellingshoek gas had gegeven, zou dit niet zijn gebeurd.
I dont know how much time that happened to me...i always stay focus so i dont fall while back tyre slips
Lemme guess, Dunlop D214? Those tires are garbage.
Yup
@@Bikezzred i have rosso 3s on my street triple 660, which is a similar bike to your cb650. Very confidence inspiring and fantastic for both track and road use, though they are a little more track focused :)
@lawnmowerlarry9139 I'll probably get s22's or t32's from bridgestone. Not sure which one yet.
@@Bikezzred S22 is a great tire, but don't expect much mileage out of it. My last S22 rear squared off within 2000km, which kind of ruins the handling. Unless you do track days, I'd recommend Michelin Road 5 or 6. Excellent mileage and both perform surprisingly close to the S22, in my experience. Really good in the wet.
@dsofe4879 Thanks for letting me know! Then i will probably get the t32's or road 6
Road 6 Tires will solve the problem
Yeah these white lines get insane when wet. Glad you saved it.
Nothing to do with white lines in this instance. Too much power to the wheel mid-corner. Rookie mistake.
@@Sportsbikeguy yeah exactly wasn't due to white line
The white lines these days are less slippy then the extual asphalt.
You still learn that in driving school that those white lines can be very slippery.
The TC saved him* xd
new rider detected, thank god you had tc on, you learn from your mistakes dont worry about it every biker has had them
well, that's how you learn. At least modern bikes give us the safety net to make some mistakes without serious consequences. And as I learned recently, switching from a 650 to a 1050 (v stroms but non the less ..) the margin for error decreases with more power/performance.
you are safe and bike is safe
happens to me all the time
I have seen KTM electronics be way more efficient in videos explaining traction control going full throttle on a wet surface while turning. I guess its super intrusive in rain mode but it is safe to the max
Although TCS might be good it doesnt make you a better rider just makes you more reliant on tech. God help new riders getting on an 80s big bike!
How many kilometers on factory tyres? On CB500X rear tyre (Dunlop Mixtour) started to slip the same, pretty badly, even on dry road and constant throttle as soon as I lean more. At about 9K km. I got Michelin Adventure, and for now they hold better on wet than used factory tyres on dry :). It was fun though, rear dancing little bit :)
Get MIchelin Road 6 tires. Problem sorted.
How about cornering without acceleration, nice and steady speed. Then more gas coming out of the apex.
@@uusiluuri6676 That might help as well! 🤣
did you released the clutch or was holding in the friction zone?
how many kms on tyres? i ride on sportmax gpr300 with my kawasaki (no-abs, no traction, nothing), not so slippery in rainy conditions (7k kms and looks good, 1 year), they get hot really quick (even when it's +- 8*C, but maybe they all do, not an expert)
Clutch was released. But it seems these tires are quite bad in the wet.
thx traction control
Practice this intentionally in some parking lots and throttle through instead. ;)
Why are you speeding on wet road?
if you learn to control it, this is actually fun.
You can add lean, you can add throttle, but not both.
this is just bs, you can easily do both at the same time, as long you are not exceeding the limits of the traction circle.
what camera is this? looks siicck
Its the DJI osmo action 3. With d-cinelike color and slightly colorgraded after
Bad tires bro , get them swapped before your face touches asfalt!
cheers , fellow reb cb owner ;)
S23 will be available in Jan 2k24 🖖😁
@@SYTROP14N Since my s22's never had this problem, good pick. Makes it a whole different machine.
Definitely not the tires, he leaned further into the corner whilst also giving it throttle, that's just a recipe for disaster that even the best street tyres couldn't help. Good thing that traction control did
@@birddaddydetta I always do this, it's how to go fast
@@LazyIndieGamer Yeah, not if it's wet and rainy like that
