    I've hiked wildcat before in strong winds and it is nerve wrecking with the sound of trees and branches cracking and falling all around you. Glad you made it out safely. The dog you found looks just like our son's dog. That was thoughtful of you to rescue it. Happy trails.

      She was a really good dog, stunk to high heaven so she had been out for a while. I’m just glad someone was able to take her in. Glad I saw your comment here, this was almost two years ago, haven’t thought about that day in a while lol

    Hello Trevis
    I, too, found a very beautiful dog in the woods by a lake years ago.
    And I was also traveling with the Warbonnet Blackbird xl.
    I then tied the dog to the whoopie sling.
    After about an hour I found the owner..... She was more than happy to have her beautiful lady back.
    So great !!!!! that you did it!!!
    I am quite sure, that you have an extra Place in Doggie heaven !!!!
    All the best ! from Berlin Germany
    Moch

    New subscriber. Great channel / production / editing. I have hiked Wild Cat many times. It's always muddy with blow downs. Heading there mid May. Look forward to checking out your other videos.

      It’s really weird because I WANT to like the trail…I just didn’t to put it bluntly. If the blowdowns get cleared and the thorns get cleared it’s not too bad. I definitely wouldn’t go in peak rainy season either because of the mud, but then again I heard there’s amazing wildflowers on that trail in the spring. Gloomy, rainy weather and having to switch campsites at dark didn’t help my opinion of the place even though none of that is the trails fault. A lot of things came together and made it a not so great trip, although it’s a funny memory to look back on so I don’t regret going. It’s just unfortunately a pretty meh trail 🤷🏻‍♂️

    I know that area got hit with a huge ice storm about a month ago. Hocking State Park closed all hiking for a little while until they where able to clean up the area. Probably the same problem with the blowdowns here.

      @Bacon_N_Backpacking  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I we had some serious winter weather this year. Like I said, I get it to some extent. Every backpacking trail has blowdowns. With that being said, I’ve been on three other trails down there since the bad storm and saw maybe 10-15 blowdowns per trail. This one legit had 100 or so which is just nuts. I probably walked an extra mile bushwhacking around downed trees.

      @@Bacon_N_Backpacking The Buckeye Trail does the Emma Grandma Gatewood Solstice hike every June and clears Wildcat Hollow. Most of the time, by the fall, the short loop is wide open and the long loop is overgrown. The Marietta section of the Wayne National Forest does a better job of trail maintenance than the Athens section.

    Hello Travis, I hiked there. That area tends to stay wet. It gets a lot of hunters during deer season. Thanks for sharing your adventure.

    • @Bacon_N_Backpacking

      Yeah I didn’t hate it, but I definitely had a weird experience. I’ve never had to pack up camp like that before at dark. That really brought down the vibes of the trip, especially since I couldn’t have a fire to end the day. I want to go back in the fall and give it another shot. Thanks for watching again!

      I’m glad you enjoyed! Plenty more trips coming up this year. All the good backpacking trails are closer to your area. It takes me 3-4 hours to get to any of the backpacking trails in Ohio lol

    I was there 3/26 and the trees were crazy noisy all night. I literally stopped and talked to the same horse… the school house is cool inside but it smells like dookie. There was quite a bit of trail maintenance last fall believe it or not. You can make your life a bit easier by parking at Monroe Outlook and hike the road and enter the short loop at about 10’oclock and hit the long trail in like 20 minutes. If you ever go back hit me up I could probably save you a few headaches. If you look you can probably see that pond in a lot of my videos.

    • @Bacon_N_Backpacking
      @Bacon_N_Backpacking  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah idk man. I’ve done like 50 backpacking trips and I’ve never seen even half as many blowdowns before. It was pretty bad. I didn’t hate the trail but it definitely wasn’t my favorite lol

      @@Bacon_N_Backpacking As mentioned before, the ice storm was really bad in some areas. I maintain trails around Shawnee about 20 miles west of Wildcat Hollow. Parts of my trail were covered and other parts weren't that bad. The smaller pine trees got hit the hardest.

    • @Bacon_N_Backpacking
      @Bacon_N_Backpacking  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a pretty straightforward trail, do be aware that there’s a long loop and short loop though.

      @Bacon_N_Backpacking  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@matthiasbrent312 do you use a GPS app? Also, it’s pretty hard to get “lost” in Ohio to the point it would be dangerous. Just know what general direction a road is and hike until you hit it and you’ll find salvation lol, it’s not like hiking in wilderness areas.

    I haven’t backpacked much in Ohio but everytime I have I’ve been disappointed. I do enjoy backpacking in Mohican but other than that, I’d rather just drive a few more hours to places like Red River Gorge or West Virginia.

    • @JoshEbersole
      @JoshEbersole 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Watched a little longer and I’ve got another comment. Paracord stretches after a while so your tarp may start to sag after a few hours. I use Zing It on my tarp tie outs and use Dutch Stingerz to hang my tarp.

    • @Bacon_N_Backpacking
      @Bacon_N_Backpacking  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t really have much in the way of options. Everything in Ohio is 3-4 hours away. Same with PA. Dolly sods is probably 5 hours and I’m not sure about RRG, somewhere around 5-6 hours. With that being said, I still plan on doing trips to WV, PA and KY possibly even MI this year.

    • @JoshEbersole
      @JoshEbersole 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Bacon_N_Backpacking it’s definitely worth the drive to Dolly Sods or Red River Gorge. Michigan is gorgeous. I’m heading to Red River Gorge here in 2 weeks and I’m planning a 5 day trip to Michigan in May and a few other quick overnight trips in between.

    • @Bacon_N_Backpacking
      @Bacon_N_Backpacking  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What trail do you recommend in RRG? It’s on my list to do in the next 4-6 weeks but I haven’t researched it at all.

    • @JoshEbersole
      @JoshEbersole 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Bacon_N_Backpacking my favorites are the Auxier Ridge Trail loop, Indian Staircase and Hanson’s Point. The good thing about RRG is you don’t need a permit for a specific spot to camp. You just hike until you find something cool. I’ve got a few videos on RRG if you want to check them out. It’s one of my favorite places to backpack.
