Wow. That was impressive maneuvering. I'm so glad you guys were able to find a decent road to tackle here in Ohio. That looked like it was fun. Wishing you safe and happy travels.
This part of Ohio was once loaded with iron ore furnaces and was the world’s leading supplier of iron ore. There are many still standing around our home. I even have a book called “superior” which tells the story of this whole area and it’s iron ore days. It’s really neat and we have a lot of history of them in our history museum.
Great video per usual! You were so close to all the unmaintained roads when you stopped at Tar Hollow. At least you were able to hit Sowers and Macedonia. There are so many more trails right there (from mild to wild). Next time, get a county engineer road map at the courthouse in McArthur. I’ve studied that map for way more time than I care to admit! Eastern Vinton / Western Athens has more sights to see (King Hollow, Moonville, old furnaces, etc) but less serious trails. Hunters Camp is a great camp spot. Southern Vinton / Eastern Jackson has some gems around Buckeye Furnace too. Glad you traveled up on our turf. Can’t wait to hit the KY trails later this year in our XJ. Keep up the great work.
MapMan44, sounds like you know the area quite well. I’m looking to venture down that way with my 4, 6, and 15 year old boys to tackle some of those unmaintained roads and do some dispersed camping. If you’re on Facebook feel free to add me. I would love to pick your brain for a little info on the area! Name is Jeff Pryor and I’m up in Ashland, Ohio. Thanks!
Great video , those trails are my local stomping grounds here around Vinton county and recognized all of the locations . Pretty cool , thank you for always posting good videos that are family friendly
Great video. My wife and I live here in the Hocking Hills. We live 7 mins from the Old Man's Cave. Not much off roading, but a nice area for sure. Let us know the next time you are up this way. We will bring the JL and come ride along. We added a Hiker Trailer this past year to take on adventures like this.
Love d those mural! I wish folks would get together and do that on all walls and bridges nationwide...there are tons of artists out there! Looked like a great trip! Thanks!
AEP Jessie owens free campsites are not too far.. 1600 miles of trans Ohio trail and hundreds of other miles of routes are mapped. I shared all mine on GAIA this winter. Sorry I didn’t get a chance to talk with you at MOORE but I did get some patches!!
I have lived in Ohio my entire life. Grew up in Logan (Hocking Hills region - now overrun with tourists, wouldn’t recommend). One thing about campgrounds in Ohio is that they usually have poorly kept bathrooms/showers but they always charge quite a bit for campsites. Pretty much every state outside of Ohio that I have camped at has had better facilities and charged less.
Quite the well configured, equipped and capable rig you have there. Enjoyed the video. We’re not far from Vinton County. My truck’s not anywhere near as capable, so we’re going to look for less aggressive trails and roads.
Glad you guys had fun, although I feel as you missed out on quite a few hidden gems. If you want to go back let me know as I'm from Vinton County and currently in Chillicothe. I would be happy to take you on the unmaintained township roads. You do need to be careful as some trails are fine, some are private property. I wouldn't recommend wheeling alone and while you have a very capable rig, you never know what you will get into. Also Mama Renee's is a good local place, but our favorite is the Lake Hope Lodge. It's the best place to eat in Vinton County.
Good video. Spend a lot of time in Vinton and Gallia Counties during hunting season. Those unimproved county roads can be pretty sketchy in certain places. If you get the chance check out the Outdoor Drama Tecumseh near Chillicothe.Mama Renee’s is a good restaurant. Jimbo’s in South Bloomingville is a good place to hit too.
JimBo’s is great! Only open Thursday-Sunday Home Tavern in Logan is awesome. Breakfast Lunch and dinner. Fair prices too, locals mostly, not a tourist place
I'm going to have to get me some of that fire starter. I like how small it is! I normally bring a fire log. your method will save space. Love that flex from your suspension! my stock Rubicon suspension on the 2022 eco diesel jt is horrible!
Very capable rig there and some pretty technical stuff toward the end there. Looks like a blast but one of the first rules of wheeling is, don’t wheel alone. Definitely drop that psi sooner. Look forward to seeing your next adventure.
Thanks for the compliments. I understand the reasoning behind not wheeling alone as I have already defended my position on here in a previous comment. We had aired down to what the trail needed. The additional air down that was shown was the loose height.
Sounds like they're a few of us that watch Coddiwomple and live near Vinton .. or in Vinton Co.... definitely should hit us up and get a group together....
I used to go there really often just beware, there's some trails that belong to the power company and you will get tickets if caught. Half our club got tickets. Which was a shame because the no trespassing sign was only on the side that we exited! We quit going after the incident which was a shame as it was a fairly easy (stock vehicle) set of trails for beginners.
Great video but I found myself thinking that you were out there alone what would you do if something happened. There are times I wheel alone but I will limit myself to places I know well and I have a 2 meter ham radio with the local repeaters programed into it. I know that wasn't what you all had planned at all with your friends having to go home. I would have done it too most likely but I would have been anxious.
Thanks! Yes we were out alone. But we were never in a situation that I didn't feel comfortable with. If something had went bad, we always carry 2 very advanced first aid kits. As far as calling for help, most of the trip we had cell signal, I also am a ham operator with 2 and 70 meter capabilities with all of the local repeater info at hand. In addition to that several people at home knew where we were by using the 360 app and lastly we always have our SPOT device with us. Being in the professions that we are in, we always plan for the worst and hope for the best!
I've been curious about the unmaintained roads in that area. We live about 3 hours north of there. I've been having a hard time finding any maps that show where those roads are.

You talk about Kelly needing a hood monkey, you need a camera monkey to jump out and run ahead and behind to get those cool shots! I hope you go back and pick Deb up instead of making her run to catch up! 😀
Great stuff man. That's the sort of thing I want to promote for my channel (jeepNdirt). East coast wheeling. We need more folks just looking around in their own backyard for stuff like this. With gas prices high, folks need to know they don't have to travel west for the big stuff. Just look around, places like AOP, Windrock, and many others not to mention all the National Forrest areas. Keep it coming. Can't wait to come across you guys sometime. God Bless you.
You can disperse at usfs trail heads in Ohio. Apparently, we are one of the few states that allow that. I understand that pain though. We hit Vinton and Tar hollow all the time. What trails you hit in Vinton?
Cool to see yall in ohio! Vinton County Area hosts "Southern Ohio Forest Rally" every year and its a blast.
Thanks! We really like that area.

Nice to stretch the suspension every now and again, lol. Looks like it handled like a dream.
It did great! You just can't beat the capability and ride of a Clayton Offroad Suspension!
What a great idea. I heard a chucks will widow (bird) in the background.
Thanks. The chucks will widows were everywhere there great background music.😁
You were on my road in Hocking Hills! Contact me next time and I’ll show you where the tourists can’t go!

It's a bummer half of everything you ran into was ATV only or blocked...but great content though.

She definitely does need a hood monkey. Sometimes we back up but alot of time she is walking it.
do you think a 38 inch tire would be ok on that trail?
Yes, we did it easily on 37's

Yes, we noticed you could camp at the trail heads.
If you have wheeled Vinton county you would know the trials as you watch the video. I have them all mapped out
Cool
I wouldn't consider 45 minutes of wheeling "overlanding".
😂😂😂
I like the way you vlog! But you need to stay a little bit longer from cooking Ang focusing to your Jeep. Thanks
Thanks for your input.
