@I. Wynn Wynn Well, the thing is, we can't know for sure what their contributions behind the scenes. Pete and Leslie may positively contribute more than is obvious from the outside. Not to mention the fact that a lot of people (a _lot_ of people, potentially even a slight majority) aren't let go based on just the quality of their work but due to personality conflicts. People like to believe that the quality of their work is the _only_ important factor, but if you're an asshole who can't get along with your co-workers (or if you're the one normal person in a toxic environment) you very likely don't have a long-term future in that job. So who knows, he could have been the ass _or_ the normal person, or something else entirely. He may just not been as liked by people that watch the show as some people think. Humor and talent can be pretty damn subjective, after all.

They sign 7 yr contracts and leave if they want to. He wanted to leave. SNL pays very little, he likely had better options
@@DannyBPlays I don't know what your definition of "very little" is but the starting salary for a cast member is like $150k a year and they get a raise pretty much every year they are on the show. Killam was probably making North of $250k when he was let go (and he was let go. He has said so in interviews)

Nobody listened to the Gettysburg address because everyone thought it would be longer. It became a hit when transcripts of it appeared in newspapers.

The great thing is it was pretty on the nose apparently too.
Reasons to love Taran Killan:
I love watching the audience be won over by this unknown character. He says a few funny things that get no audible reaction before he hits the first big laugh, and then the energy escalates for the rest of the bit.
I used to be so pissed at Lorne for removing Cecily from weekend update, but man that was the best decision he ever made. She and Kate literally carry the show now.
Mojo JoJo-Cecily was the shit at first, then I started digging Taram, but Kate killed it during the news. Addie is bad as hell too. She never breaks up!!
For me i didn't start watching snl until like the 41st season so now it's weird for me to see her on update lol. She's just obviously so much better suited being in sketches and playing characters, being on weekend update would've never allowed her to reach her true potential. And like u said she's one of the most reliable actors on snl now she's an all time great. And plus michael and colin are such a good duo on update. Im terrified of them leaving someday
she asked to leave update, she wanted to be in more sketches!

You guys do know the Address was not an original work, but a digested rewrite of a very famous classic speech most orators of the time memorized.
Lincoln was a horrible verbal speaker, but a good legal writer. Whiny voice and a bit stuttering (like Jimmy Stewart). If you heard him, often the review was bad. If you only read him (as most did in 1863) then he was great.
As he was shot in office at a crucial time, he's been turned into a demigod.
i'm guessing it might have something to do with that whole civil war/slavery thing. nice try tho....NNNEXXXT
fr3@kb!+¢h. You didn't know it was a shortened copy of a 2200 year old speech did you? Hey just an observation. Lincoln got in on an electoral fluke, caused a war just because he got in, hired a cabinet and fired most of them within the first two years. Was clumsy in the press. Most everyone in the government considered him a boob. Bungled the war leading up to 64. Was hated by the abolitionists like Frederick Douglas at the time. Douglas still hated him even after the assassination. His own party in Congress impeached and tried to remove his VP from completing Lincoln's second term so they could get past the Lincoln administration, once and for all.
The thing was he was not very popular while he was alive and had to use martial law to keep even many northern citizens in line in the Ohio River States, Maryland and to put down riots in NYC during his first term.
Not saying he was right or wrong, but I, personally, preferred his stance to that of Davis. If Davis was just an independence movement I could see both sides, but it was too wrapped in just protecting planter slavery. Ironically, slavery ended legally in the South with the executive order, so the last legal US slavery was in the Loyal Union states until the 13th amendment was passed. Oh and the Black troops were not allowed to march in the DC victory parade as the war ended.
SO do you know what speech he copied, without looking it up. If not then I'd pit my understanding of history easily against yours.
