Dr. Zoë Harcombe - 'HPCSA vs. Professor Noakes: A bird's eye view'

  • Zoë Harcombe was the first pupil from her school to graduate from Cambridge University. While studying maths and economics at this historic institution, Zoë set out to answer the million dollar question - "Why do you overeat? When all you want is to be slim?" This became the title of Zoë's first book - published in 2004.
    "Stop Counting Calories & Start Losing Weight" followed in 2008, with an accompanying recipe book and "The Obesity Epidemic: What caused it? How can we stop it?" which was published in October 2010. "The Harcombe Diet for Men" (2011) gave men the super quick read they were after and then two more books were published in 2013 - a collaboration with Hodder & Stoughton: "The 3-Step Plan" and a completely revised "Why do you overeat?"
    Zoë has a PhD in public health nutrition. She struggles to find anything that is being taught in 'conventional' nutritional worlds that is true or evidence based. Hence why she spent 2008-10 writing The Obesity Epidemic - 135,000 words blowing apart: the misapplication of thermodynamics to dieting; the notion that 1lb = 3,500 calories, let alone that a deficit of 3,500 calories will lead to a weight loss of 1lb; the Seven Countries Study and the subsequent change in our diet advice, which has caused the obesity epidemic; the role of exercise in obesity and much more.
    Zoë lives in the Welsh countryside with her husband, Andy, a rescue dog and a rescue cat. A .PDF version of the slides used in this presentation can be found here; www.zoeharcombe.com/the-hpcsa-...

    Prof Noakes is my hero too! His LCHF advice has done wonders for my health. I'm delighted that sanity prevailed.

    What a brilliant and hilarious deconstruction of the trial! Most telling is the picture of the complainant. Enough said.

    What a brilliant presentation, although a serious topic matter Zoe has the personality to portray this in a funny and brilliant way. I liked it so much I had to watch it a second time.

    Just made myself a scrumptious keto, special fried 'rice', with all the trimmings, and I'm now sitting down to eat it and listen to Dr Harcombe talk about Dr Noakes, knowing that he won (as did Dr Fetke)....
    I'd say that's a pretty good evening!

    This was so brilliantly well done. The only question I have left is who are the people who clicked on "dislike"? The Expanse fans will know what I mean when I ask: Were they all previously employed by Protogen Corp?

    Zoe you are a absolute joy to watch. Thank you for what you did for the Prof! South Africans health is in deep shit because of this old myopic view of so called evidence based dietary guidelines from a 60 years ago, and I blame 7th day adventists to. But for me that is a personal one, I fell into their health message trap, hook, line, and sinker.

    Have just read the "Lore of Nutrition" by Tim Noakes about the trial--it's an LCHF thriller! The research he has done on proving the LCHF case is unprecedented and brilliant and then the Three Angels came in to knock in the final nail in the HPCSA's (of which I am forced to be a member) coffin. Lovely synopsis Zoe!

    Brilliant presentation! Thanks LCDU. The finding I found most interesting today was when Joan Adams denied the hearing was about "infant" nutrition, because it was adults tweeting!

    Superb, Dr Harcombe. I'm sure Luke Skywalker will win, eventually and be declared the hero of this tragedy. I'm a T2D on LCHF. Of course it works. No meds, just diet. Normal b/g and lost 45 lbs. Keep up the good work.

    Dr Harcombe's podcast interview with Adam Pike is my favourite of all her podcasts, and I've listened to most of them. Prof Noakes is my hero for discovering that he was wrong about diet, and radically changing his approach based on evidence. All the players on the Noakes side in this drama seem like wonderful people who really care. It doesn't get better than that, does it?

    • @sammcrae8892
      @sammcrae8892 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, it really does not. You have to give a bit of extra credence to those who are fighting an uphill battle against fearful odds, and who have nothing to gain but the satisfaction of standing for, and spreading the truth. No good deed goes unpunished eh?

  • @jselectronics8215

    Hmmm, it appears the complaining dietician is overweight. Either she doesn't care or doesn't know why she is overweight. I'm sure she cares. Most people just don't know. The guidelines are wrong but we believed them.

    Well, all nice and tidy except the remark: ...banging his head like a romanian orphan child. It is offensive and I cannot imagine what was in your mind, dear Zoe, when you said that.

    • @Jack-hy1zq
      @Jack-hy1zq ปีที่แล้ว

      She was likening the lawyer's frustration to that of a Romanian orphan. Or. She was comparing his sense of the craziness of the court proceedings to how crazy a Romanian orphan feels. Both are crass justifications. It was an unfortunate comparison. But are you seriously suggesting she wishes ill on Romanian orphans? Now THAT would be offensive. Strange how you criticise a moment's bad joke in an otherwise profoundly important and informative presentation, and dismiss the profoundly important presentation as "nice and tidy". What is your opinion regarding the subject matter being presented?

  • @wilmaknickersfit
    @wilmaknickersfit 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    As much as I support the verdict, I think this presentation is in bad taste.
