Hi Jason, thank you for all the great how to videos, Ive been watching your Wrangler ones for years now! a bit disappointed you didn't do a cross rotation. Getting the car off all 4 wheels is the fun part. Haven't done the Durango yet. But how do you get the Tesla off all 4 wheels?
It would take multiple jacks or like I mentioned in the video, a unique (and expensive) jack stand setup. I would normally want to cross but since the tire wear is so even, there's really no need for it.
Wow... so impressed and thankful you've been here that long...LOL! The bug was a good looking car and really, really fun to drive but totally disappointing from a mechanical standpoint. $600 for jack stands for Tesla. Not interested in rip off pricing. There are only two manufacturers that I’ve found. Are you aware of any other options? And are you really going to buy $600 stands? I’ve thought for that amount, I’d rather buy a complete floor lift. Thoughts? Thanks for this video! Stay healthy!
Just use normal jack stands. Amazon the hockey pucks. It’s cheap and simple. I live in Nebraska and have a 18” rim and Nokian winter tire. For my performance.
Those were the stands and yeah, I believe they are too expensive. I can't do a floor lift but it is a good option if you are going to be doing a lot of upgrades to your Tesla. For normal maintenance... this will work just fine for me!
AutoEdits 235/45/18 nokian wrg4 Vision rims. It’s hard finding 18” rims that fit over the brakes/rotors. I did the whole package for under 1000$ Plus the wh/per mile is tons better with 18. The 20 in stock wheels are very heavy. Maybe compared to a truck light. For a sports car heavy. Remember 235/45/18 tire is the same diameter as the 235/35/20. Aesthetics is the only purpose for low profile tires. My zero to 60 times are faster with my 18” wheels.

Can't really argue about wheel chocks but that is absolutely the parking brake pump that I hear when going into park on this vehicle. There is no transmission to engage a parking pawl so a pump builds brake pressure and locks them into place.

I never agreed with Tesla's 10k tire rotation schedule, it made no sense and it was clearly to give the impression that their car needs less maintenance. Tire wear no matter what the vehicle and will benefit from 6k rotations and it looks like now Tesla agrees with a sooner rotation schedule.
That’s a no no in my book. I grew up in my my dad’s auto shop, and leaving the low profile jack in place is a safety issue. It’s hydraulic based, if the fluid leaks, jack fails. Sure, you have the rear supported by a jack stand, but all points should be held by jack. You need a different jack lift to properly work on a tesla.
Doing a tire rotation on my Lexus RX350 was fun as well, I just drive to a Lexus dealer there I can either wait in their owners lounge while they serve me a cappuccino. Or they give me a random Lexus to drive around town to do chores. Traded my RX350 in for a Model Y and I regret it, Tesla charges $50 for a tire rotation. And I would need to leave the car there for god knows how long with no loaner since they are "so busy." If I had the nerve to complain they tell me I am expecting Rolls Royce/Bentley service on a Tesla. Yes I should expect to rotate my own tire on a 55k car. This is by far the worst company I had the misfortune to deal with...

Wow... so impressed and thankful you've been here that long...LOL! The bug was a good looking car and really, really fun to drive but totally disappointing from a mechanical standpoint. I don't understand how VW enthusiasts are fine with a car that always has something wrong with it or needing fixing... I couldn't keep up and when the timing chain stretched... gave up on the thing.

I rotated front to back and now the car is showing the tire pressure wrong. Showing on the front the pressure of the rear tires. What did I miss? Suggestions?
There’s nothing to do but drive it and let it sort itself out. You can hit reset in the menu.
@@AutoEdits I'll keep driving then. Thanks
Tesla recommends rotating the tires every 6,250 miles (10,000 km) or if tread depth difference is 2/32 in (1.5 mm) or greater, whichever comes first. Not 10,000 miles
The manual in this car clearly states 10,000 miles. They have changed the recommendation since.
@@AutoEdits I copied and paste from my manual as well. However, thank you for your video as I will rotate my tires myself on my Tesla. Very informative!

The translation from your voice to print showed the torque amount as 429 footpounds, at the 18:00 timemark. I had to run the clip back and listen more closely to hear that you actually said 129 ftlbs !
I did kind of mumble at that moment.

Compare your mustang performance to the Model 3P. That would be fun to see.
I agree! The only problem is that the Mustang would lose at everything but sounding like America!
@@AutoEdits exactly. But the sound will put it over the top.
What's with the music video in the background? I just turn on the radio.
I enjoy everything on every topic you put up. What about a John Deer riding lawn mower?
I found a great Foo Fighters playlist on you tube so that's what's going on back there. Thanks for the support across topics... I wouldn't mind a riding mower... my yard is almost big enough for that but not quite...LOL
Cool!
Thanks!

What size tire on that 18" wheel?
AutoEdits 235/45/18 nokian wrg4
Vision rims. It’s hard finding 18” rims that fit over the brakes/rotors.
I did the whole package for under 1000$
Plus the wh/per mile is tons better with 18.
AutoEdits jack stands from Walmart 2 for 25$.
Great idea to use a drill! I have the same type of drill. Do you recall where you got the drill bit, was it online or at the hardware store?

How do you re-calibrate TPMS after rotating the tires?
Just drive it… they do it automatically
How long does it take? After rotating the wheels, I drove 3 different times for ~45mins and they didn’t recalibrate.
@@tony45682 It only takes a few minutes. You might try going into the menu settings under Service and reset tpms manually.
You don’t have to balance the tires?
Not for a rotation. Only have to re-balance if something changes or weights fall off.
of course the easy way. would like to see someone to the cross version on the tesla
I could easily do the crossover. It would just take a second Jack and I wanted to demonstrate the recommended technique.
Nice video…..
Thank you! Cheers!

I was suprised by your Tesla theny you said its the wifes... lol
Yeah, I can't afford that thing...LOL You see all my junk in the driveway.
I'd like to drive one
Yes you do... It's mind bendingly fast and fun!
Does anyone on TH-cam ever chalk the tires.. according to Tesla that is not the parking break you hear when you put it In park.. love the dog
Can't really argue about wheel chocks but that is absolutely the parking brake pump that I hear when going into park on this vehicle. There is no transmission to engage a parking pawl so a pump builds brake pressure and locks them into place.
So after a year your wife didnt complain about the prius droning noise so you decided to rat yourself out ?? lol .... my wife would have picked up on it day one hhahah
Thanks for the video. FYI. Your subtitles say 429 ft lbs. I don't think you wanted to have people go that high :).
Ok thanks! Yeah, I kind of mumble during that moment and it auto-fills the captions... not sure how to fix that.
@@AutoEdits Click on the edit button below the video and then go to the subtitles section. It should allow you to edit the text it generated.
I'll be swapping the tires on my Model 3 and Model Y tomorrow :)
Hey thanks for that... I love learning new stuff 👍
@@AutoEdits Me too! I have a whole channel dedicated to automating things with drones if you're interested :). Thanks again for the video!
You live in LA with potholes : in the UK we laugh at your potholes, every road has 1000's of potholes some big enough to eat a whole road-cone. You would be insane to run those low profile tires; OK some people run low profile tires - for a while, then learn.
I was hoping you would have sprayed “tool box buddy”
I do get carried away with that stuff sometimes (sorry not sorry) If you every get around to trying the interior detail or the speedwax... and get a smell of it... you'll understand another reason why I like it so much. LOL
I was just super impressed that someone from that company watched the video and thought to send a care package as a thanks. Now I just need to see if they'll send me another case of that tool box buddy!!!

Who's surprised that Tesla doesn't come with standard "free" maintenance during the first few years?
I hear ya.
I have a 120v plug-in 1/2” DeWalt impact gun and its tits-n-pickles !
I love the saying... I was looking to get away from the cord or air hose wit this gun and couldn't be happier. It has gotten me and a few others out of a pickle on the trail more than a few times.
Disappointed. I was hoping to see some shoe shining skills on the wheels. Great vid though. 😁👍
Shoe shining.... no need... I keep those things sparkling! Except for that one on the other side that I rubbed against a curb ... oh, that hurt... LOL
AutoEdits love the banter my man. Just watch out for that bucket of paint...unless your shoes need whitened.
That is a deep dive! Love it!!!!

I'd never run anything but 18" tires on my Model 3, more beef is better.
I totally agree on running an 18" wheel... can't convince the wife to let me change them. Another pinch flat might do the trick though.
Make short and sweet videos
Preferably 4 to 6 minutes
You need a different jack lift to properly work on a tesla.
is it just me or do these tires look balder than bruce willis?
Just u
This is by far the worst company I had the misfortune to deal with...
likes & dislikes disabled?
does that mean something to you?
@@AutoEdits of course its YT consensus is a factor on which video to watch
oh, ok
You need to be careful. Tesla is very stingy about doing work on your own car. They are quick to void warranties. Give Rickrebuilds a look.
Thanks for the "heads up" on that... I'll check that out.
They don’t care about tire rotation.
I also wouldn’t trust just anyone to rotate them. Do it yourself if you can.
Man I feel so unsafe after watching you, ill do better 😪 😔
