Someone with the talent and ability to engineer the HELL out of a project like this, can surely fix the saw. I’m thinking this was more of a “can I?” Vs. “Should I?” The safety aspect of the chain break and the balance of the saw make me think maybe this was a great way to prove you can, but ultimately not a wheel worth re-inventing. Just my 2 cents.

Well I give you credit for your ingenuity and I don't have a machine shop at my disposal but I do know how to buy a quality chainsaw, you know..... one that starts every time.
Sure it would have been easier. But someone who has this much skill and creativity just enjoys the build plus the satisfaction of knowing what you created/made actually works.
Wouldn't it be easier to clean and adjust the carburator and/or ignition system of the chainsaw? Certainly it would be more safe and more compact than this construction....

Never ever use water to quench harden steel. Use oil. If that piece shatters, you are in big trouble. Other than that it is a nice build. Too bad you can't just make a modular attachment for a line of weed whackers. That said, I would have just taken the chainsaw back to Home Depote and get another one.
Only one thing .....I didn't see any bar oil being used,this will heat up the chain and cause it to stretch and possibly snap and ruin the bar..other than that I'm very impressed with your engineering skills sir .

And all you need is a lathe , a welder , skills to use both, loads of spare metal , taps and dies and a machine shop.
