    you actually don't need to remove the bumper. you CAN pull those vents out from inside the car by unclipping , pushing it outward a little, and turning it a little until it fits through the hole.

    Great Video!!! I have been fixing same leaks on my 2013 mk7 golf! I resealed a door speaker with bathroom silicone sealant, and used same around edges of those rear louvred vents! No more leaks & I’m in rainy Manchester uk! Not had any leaks from the foam light seals yet!

      I also used silicon sealant around the speaker, let it cure for a day and it worked, now the left side has started to leak in so will have to do the same again but not yet its too cold and miserable.

    I bought the ‘upgraded’ vents from
    VW (based on the part number included in the comments below) they didn’t look a whole
    Lot different from the ones I removed the seal is perhaps 1 to 2 mm bigger but it’s hard to tell. Either way I was able to swap them out from within side the boot without taking the bumper off! Thanks for the channel fellas!

    You don't need to remove the bumper, it is possible to remove the vents from the inside... To check if there is a leakage at the vents you don't need to remove the trim to check, just reach under the car and remove the grommet... when water comes out you have a leakage at the vents...

    Thanks very good video, great to hear that the seals for lights can be bought and that they've upgraded the vents.
    Presently leak coming in via speakers on rear drivers door, what size drill bit do you use to drill out rivets please and what size screws do you use to refit speakers. Is teck7 or windscreen silicone best for sealing speaker.
    Thanks very much.

    • @vorsprung
      @vorsprung  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. To remove the rivets you just need to drill the heads off an that rest will pop out. I usually use a 4mm or 5mm drill bit. You have to replace them with new rivets, screws won't work. You can buy the correct rivets from the dealer when you buy the speaker, they're about 80p each. Obviously, you will need a rivet gun to complete the install. No silicon or sealant is required, the speakers come with a foam seal on the back of them. This seal only fails when the speaker housing is damaged (in my experience)

    Nice video, I have a problem tho. I have a Seat Leon 5F (same generation as Golf 7). I have a water leak next to the spare tire in the right corner. I work at a VAG dealer and a mechanic has checked all options. He found the same leak as you tell with the vents under the bumper. He didn’t replace them but he sealed them with kit. He also did the same for all rear lights including braking light. The water still comes in next to the spare tire but nothing gets wet, only this corner underneath next to the spare tire. It almost seems like its coming from underneath, do you think it might be again the same vent and is it better to maybe replace them?

    Mine's in for a second time for leaks (2015 2.0 TDi BM). First time, three years ago, drainage pipe in boot and rear vents replaced. Second time, car went in today, vents need replacing again along with rear speakers which, including the interior strip for drying, I've been quoted £860. VW service said vents look to be a new part number. I'm letting VW dry out the interior as I don't have either the space at home to work on the car or put the interior and if (when) it leaks again I can (try to) bounce it back at them. Always though the rear light cluster would be the weak point considering the gap at the top. Shame really as it's a great car, 140k miles on it (120k are mine as bought used from VW), serviced every 10k and averages 60mpg.

    Great tips and I've managed to sort out my GolfMK 7 which leaked from each of these areas. I have come up with a phantom electrical issue after 2 months which is causing the STOP/START system to malfunction. Diagnostics simply detect a generic error and its currently a can of worms with trial and error. Are there any electrical relays or components in the footwell which could have been corroded and cause this sort of an issue?

    Why does everyone think that water comes in from the drain pipe in the boot lid, where do you think the water goes when the pipe is working ? It will be going out in the same place when is not working it just means that it goes in the boot lid first then out the same hole. Plus I hear people talking about speakers leaking, if the speakers are not leaking there’s other holes around the door where the clips are and they are lower then the speakers so it will come from there, it’s not the speaker but the seals on top where it’s meant to seal against the glass.

    had this blockage on my Passat B8 GTE, water then ran into my PHEV wiring loom at the bottom of the A-Pilar, resulting in up tot 2000€ worth of damage. because of this stupid plug and the lack of checking this at the dealership each time the car has to go in for routine check-ups. VW and AUDI know of this problem, the internet is FILLED with sunroof drain issues but the like the €€€ it provides i guess. I'm having my car repaired, the sold of. No VW for me anymore.
