Honestly, the fax machine kinda laid ground for scanners. I think it's pretty revolutionary in a sense. So even at that time, that economist might have won a Nobel-prize but lacked complete vision in the practicality and scalability of past and (then) contemporary technology. It's certainly not a purposeful contribution to the problem: those videos were well under 1% of the content available on the site.
On the other hand, I would have loved to have been the TH-cam lawyer who discovered that they did that stupid shit.
I knew Vidcon was bought out, but until watching this I hadn't put two and two together that it was bought by TH-cam's biggest existential threat. That is wild, corporations are frighteningly pragmatic. Awesome essay and visuals as always.

EmpLemon, I know you probably won't see this in the sea of comments, but I really have wanted to congratulate you for what you have done on your channel with your content on your channel so far. You are the man we really TRULY needed on a site like this, that promotes censorship, to speak out and say what no one else will say for fear of what may happen to them. Clearly you have a pair and aren't afraid to speak your mind to the unknown, a trait we all wish we had. Not only do your videos present a new era in TH-cam content, but you put so much work and effort into making your videos unforgettable, and extends a message that the viewers will want to think about for possible days after they watched it. I mean, 26 MINUTES to explain a simple message? I'm a man of intricate detail, but I could never do that. The fact that you explain in such a clear and compiling tone, while also showing an occasional biased perspective is absolutely amazing. This probably isn't new to you, as you demonstrate your capabilities in every video you make, including the more recent "there will Never Ever be another cartoon like Spongebob Squarepants" video, which I found to be very detailed and well thought out. I may seem somewhat weird by typing out a paragraph just to say how extraordinary of a TH-camr you are, but there's really no other way I could do it. Thank you for what you do for us.

+Charlie I have done extensive research into the EUCD & it's many articles + newer amendments, It is not fear mongering and if passed will have an extreme impact on all of the internet as a whole (including phones ect) for people both in and out of the EU. Most of the information out there is full of shit though, I'll give you that, the lack of real articles with real and actual research put into them is very troubling. So I can see why you'd think that given the shitty info that's out there at the moment. But do know that The EUCD/Article 13 ect are very serious and not fearmongering at all..
It's just too bad nearly all videos + articles surrounding the topic are all full of shit.
(NOTE: I did a video of this but due to my laptop breaking the information in it was very old and so was the video itself, I am working on another one though, which will hopefully be much better)
Article 13 could easily cut into TH-cam's already plummeting profit margin by cutting off alot of European TH-camrs. The Article has been nurtured recently, but time will tell how they actually apply it. TH-cam can't afford to be sued by the whole EU.

is it a reasonable idea to suggest that this whole dispute was just an elaborate, pre-orchestrated song and dance number? Look, i'm NOT eluding to some malicious conspiracy theory, but when you hear or read the word "sue", you might imagine two or more parties at each others' throats but business litigation doesn't (always) work that way. What sounds like beef to us could just be laying down the groundwork, establishing new rules for copyright laws in the still-young internet wild West. Viacom probably wasn't really expecting to win a big ol' pile of money but they still played an important role in establishing case law for future conflicts we'll inevitably see more of down the road. CLEARLY i'm no lawyer, but considering the ridiculousness of Viacom flubbing their own case, is it too large a leap of logic to guess both parties knew what the other was doing the whole time? Considering the outcome we COULD have gotten and that Viacom and TH-cam are getting along so well as business partners now, is it really such a stretch? This may not be a blatant case of two neighbors bickering over whose dog pooed on whose lawn a la Judge Judy. Business takes place in the courtroom just as often as on the show floor; it just LOOKS like scat throwing from a customer's perspective.

This website has grown to an insane degree over the years. It's so sprawling now and so grand in scale that there are literally thousands of channels with over a million subscribers you've never heard of. Hell, most people in the West didn't even know about T-Series till they had 60 million subscribers. The platform is so niche, there are so many tiny circles of creators making hyper specific content. It's amazing really. It's a shame the homepage is always plastered with celebrity content, because the amount of user generated stuff is so incredible. I can rattle off like 15 video essay channels without thinking. There used to be a program where a random channel with less than 100,000 subscribers would be features on the home page for people to check out. TH-cam needs to get back to those days. Exposing people to new, engaging content. Not overly colorful bullshit
