I think it’s probably because of animals like tabby cats having a dark end on their tails and we just assume the designers would make it like that as well. We get surprised by experiencing something different to what we’re used to and fill in details to more align with what we more commonly expect from a given situation.

I only recently saw a scene from legally blonde where she was driving down the road in a black car. It was not a video talking about how people remember the color of Ellie's car being a different color it was just a scene from the movie. But when I saw it I personally said no her car was pink. Then later I found out that there were thousands of other people that shared my same view. I was not coaxed into believing something. I believe it because that is how it was.

The Mandela effect that pisses me off the most is the fruit of the loom logo. I remember learning what a cornucopia was in elementary school and when I would see the commercials I would always think “that’s a cornucopia” but then now that was never real? How did we all just add a cornucopia to their logo? I never think of cornucopias in my daily life and I remember when they introduced the people as fruits in their commercials I saw they removed it then.

    • @dreamlandnightmare
      @dreamlandnightmare 2 ปีที่แล้ว +40

You obviously saw a cornucopia in some other image or logo and conflated it with the FotL logo. I distinctly remember NEVER seeing a cornucopia in the logo.
Brand logos and names are something we see all the time but rarely closely scrutinize, making them easy to misremember and meld with other images and words we see. The human brain is a highly flawed mechanism.

Yeah I'd like that one explained too. Like I understand the idea of memories getting messed up or maybe a couple of marketing teams misspelled Berenstain but like where and why did so many people imagine a cornucopia? I just wanna know what might have possibly caused even if it doesn't make any sense just to put my mind at rest.

    • @slicedbread5692
      @slicedbread5692 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

@@dreamlandnightmare memory and perception actually aren't flawed. The brain works the way it does for a reason. If we registered, analyzed, and remembered every detail of everything we saw or heard we would never get anything done. You'd be spending all your brain function on noticing minute details like the Amazon logo having an arrow from A to Z, or the hidden arrow in the FedEx logo... We have more important things to worry about so our brains only register the important stuff and fills the rest in by itself with things that kinda make sensr

The woman in the 1979 James bond movie who was attracted to jaws, she definitely had braces and no one is able to explain that one, there are loads of people who remember her with braces. This is the government experimenting this strange phenomenon on the population. They do it on a small scale like movies, music, and video games to see how effectively they can rewrite or remove a past event from our memories.
They try to program our minds to accept this artificial change in past events. Since they have full control over the media, television , education, and movies, I can see how they have the ability to use the Mandela effect for their agenda.
It's not a coincidence that most of the population remember the same event, but can't find any evidence or information on it in the system. I watched the empire strikes back 7 times in the theaters and Darth vader said
"LUKE, I am your father". Not "No, I am your father. They definitely Replaced that line later without letting the public know. They also removed Pikachu's black tip and replaced it with an all yellow end. Again, it's a small scale operation like subliminal messages.

Indeed, I saw a video on the Mandela effect in which they claimed that "Hannibal Lecter _never_ said 'Well, hello Clarice'". They also played the scene from _The Silence of the Lambs_ where Lecter and Agent Starling meet that clearly shows Hopkins politely saying "Good morning".
However, the video in question only specified that he didn't say it in _Silence of the Lambs._ Lector _did_ say the line in the sequel _Hannibal_ (although, it may be the case that the line is _"Why,_ hello Clarice", but that's just pedantic) but the maker of the video didn't mention the sequel. I think this is a bit of a lie of omission and serves to gas-light the viewer into thinking the "mis-quote" mysteriously appeared from the aether.

It occurs to me that the error in recalling the Berenstain Bears' name correctly could be as simple as a kind of "neurological autocorrect": fixing a spelling error that isn't really there. Overwhelmingly, names of that kind tend to end in "-stein," as in the names Goldstein, Silverstein, Epstein . . . or even Frankenstein. My niece is a huge Pokémon fan, so for her bday (themed Pokémon) I painted and made a “pin the tail on pikachu” game, complete with 20 pikachu tails. ALL with black tips. This was maybe 5-6 years ago, I even had to buy a white paint marker to write the numbers IN the black tip area. And I used hundreds of online images of pikachu and his tail so I know I got it correct, she’s a major fan and I didn’t want to disappoint her.
She loved it btw. It turned out amazing.
And a little side note on the “Berenstain” bears,
I guess i can see how some can argue a misspelling of ONE letter, however, I know I, and everyone else who loved the book series, pronounced it as “Beren-STINE” OR “Beren-STEEN” …. But never ever heard anyone pronounce it as “Beren-STANE”
which means the original spelling I thought it was is correct…BerenSTEIN.
Would make zero sense for even my teacher to pronounce the name wrong (she pronounced it as Baren-STEEN) if it was indeed always spelled as “berenSTAIN”
I have lost sleep over this stuff lol and swore to my family I will leave it alone 😂 But something happened for sure. Especially for tens of thousand of people, possibly more, all to have the same “wrong” memories and pronounce a popular book series completely wrong.

Because who's surname do you know that's pronounced as "Stain"? Now ask yourself how many times you've heard "Stein" like Einstein or "Steen"?. Mystery solved. Also, Pikachu's tail was never black, I don't remember it as such, and I was obsessed with Pokémon in the late 90s. I also played Pokémon on gameboy and Pokémon Snap on N64. He never had a black tip on the tail. He is often pictured with his tail close to his ears, and both his ears have black tips. Coloring books can be produced by hundreds of companies and either as a misrepresentation or to make it more engaging, they simply added more parts to color! Mystery solved.

I don't have any answers for what is definitely happening regarding the phenomenon. I do however adamantly hold the position that it is absolutely not a matter of multiple parallel universes. One of the big things regarding the effect is that "residue" is left behind that indicates that there could be some truth to the shared memories people hold. You can find many whole youtube videos dedicated to such residue, in case you're looking for specific examples.
The very existence of residue being an integral part of what makes the effect so compelling is a clear indication that it's not a matter of someone who formed memories in one universe somehow crossing over into another universe where things happened differently. If such a thing were to happen, the new reality the person entered into would not have any such evidence left behind, as it never would have happened the way people remember it happening to begin with.
Quite simply, the parallel universes explanation is insufficient to explain the phenomena as observed. While it's not impossible that the many worlds theory could potentially hold some general truth, it seems impossible to be the explanation for the Mandela Effect specifically, and there's no solid evidence of anyone at any point in history ever crossing into such a parallel world.

That definitely is messed up in all honesty. That is also something way beyond gaslighting.
I've heard of people being around the same people a long time and maybe the person always loved catsup on everything, but then you watch them eat and ask them if they want some catsup. They look at you oddly asking why. I have always hated catsup. That's something that starts to make you question a lot of things, but you sit there now thinking on whether you even know the person or not. Yup.
People make fun of those who have encountered it and yet it goes way beyond just name or logo changes.
I keep seeing a vision. The sky in it is a royal blue color. Someone threw a rock in a body of water causing ripples in the water. The ripples are the Mandella Effect.
I normally don't say too much anymore. I stopped reading the Bible for a long time when verses changed in the KJV version. I could guess at what happened, but it would be a stab in the dark. It is my opinion that those who say this is not happening are potentially NPC's so it is in their "programming" to only say what what they are "programmed" to say. Maybe they are "advanced SIMS who think they are real". (Those who deny the truth are part of the simulation.) It is my educated guess that we may be sitting either in something similar to a super massive black hole or CERN destroyed our world and we are living in an alternate reality. What is real? This world is upside down the way I see it. Our world from which we all came was right side up and somehow we are probably sitting on a "mirrored version of our original world". The world is heading towards its culmination of things. Maybe science was trying to outsmart God or tried to buy more time or maybe they thought they could hide from Him in a simulation they made. Maybe science was attempting to recreate a tower of babel that backfired where people were not supposed to remember things. I'm not sure and cannot prove my theories. I only know that whatever is happening is more along the lines of something supernatural, not misremembering things.

The time people are mistaking for Mandela's death and televised funeral was actually a celebration of his birthday that was televised worldwide. I did this experiment with my Bible class. I asked them to put their Bibles away and then write the name of the last book of the Bible on a slip of paper with their name and pass them to me. Then I told them to take the Bibles out again and see what the last book was called. I could see some confusion immediately. I asked how many got it right and almost all thought they did, but fully one half of them got it wrong. The book is Revelation, but many folks remembered it as "Revelations". The ones who thought they had it right but didn't simply wouldn't have been able to admit their error without my slips of paper reminding them what they wrote to begin with. Memory is a slippery thing and not to be trusted. Especially if you place a great deal of importance on being right. It's that intractable nature that makes people insist they are right and believe it so strongly that instead of admitting the mistake they come up with alternate time lines to explain it.

Other stuff is just confusing two similar things. E.g. Pikachu's tail doesn't have an accent on it, but Raichu's does. So some ppl obviously got them conflated.

Most people believe their memory is better than average and most people are wrong... The only reason this effect bothers people is because they're shown proof that their memory is worse than they think it is. And this video is one of the only ones that admits that we already know what causes this. Its nice for someone to finally platform this.

Consider the science of 'Epigenetics'. I found that human memory is 'fragmented' rather than flawed simply because we all genetically inherit sensory experiences to a greater or lesser degree from any and every-one that we are connected to in our bloodlines. Present life experiences will determine when, what, and how those memories or 'genetic files' are activated and then manifested in one's behavior/reaction. Just a thought.

Yes our memory is very crappy! One time I went to a thrift store over a year ago. There was this one room which had fluorescent lights in it, and I could had sworn they had the purplish tinted deluxe cool white “CWX” tubes in them! I even have a clear photograph of it in my memory, but despite this they were just the regular “CW” cool white tubes. I was surprised when I went back in September and noticed no purplish tint. I supposed they could had changed them, but that is unlikely, considering a couple were at end-of-life or burnt out. I have a couple theories that are more plausible. One is that another place I went to, possibly around the same time, did in fact have fluorescent lights with the CWX tubes. My memory could had reconstructed the memory of the thrift store lights with that memory. The lights were also very dim, which is normally a characteristic of CWX tubes. Back then, I wasn’t as experienced in fluorescent lighting as I am today, so I could had easily gone off the brightness alone to determine the type of tube. Then, when I learned CWX tubes are purplish, I could had easily applied that to the memory, already thinking the tubes were CWX.

0:19 I've said this for years regarding Biko. We had the documentary and movie in 87. Peter Gabriel had the song. Some time passed. Mandela comes front and center. People talk. People associated the two just enough to regurgitate a mix plus if you tell someone something and it passes through five people it's a new story. I remember speaking about them myself and mixing them up. I was 17 and probably stoned when I watched the documentary and movie. You have to remember back then we all saw the same 4 or 5 channels and the film was a big deal so most everyone knew about the them. I'm glad I eventually correctly learned about them though. Biko's story is wrenching.

It's a pretty simple answer when you know the basics of psychology and the human brain functions :) the more someone needs to recall a memory the more details they will get wrong each time something will change when they recall that memory. In fact, the memory we have of something isnt from the actual event- it's a memory of the event that was last recalled but with the newest change of the current recall. We simply misremember and since we have so many stubborn people thinking they know everything they don't realize how wrong they really are :)

One example that is particular to the UK surrounds the cartoon _Captain Pugwash._
It was a very cheap show, you could barley call it "animated", but it was cute a kitsch about a crew of sailors that looked like pirates.
The received wisdom was that the producers put a few "risqué" jokes in naming the characters, to amuse the parents but would go over the heads of kids watching. These included "Master Bates", "Seaman Staines" and "Roger the cabin-boy" ("roger" being a synonym for "to have sex roughly")
However, the character was called Master _Mate_, "Seaman Staines" was a complete invention and the cabin boy was named Tom.
The best guess is this started off as a parody strip in a student rag-mag, and the joke caught on.
However, there are some that claim that when the they made a new version of it in the late 90's, that the prudish, politically correct, powers-that-be enforced the double-entendres to be removed, even going back over the archives a digitally changing the old shows!

I just experienced one a few minutes ago which made my heart drop. I love this song, called “Jealous” by Eyedress. I used to listen to it all the time because of the relatable lyrics, but today I played it again. This morning it sounded normal, but as I played it again a few minutes ago, I knew something was off. I distinctly remember “Why would you want to choose me?”, however, it appeared to change to “Why would you want to be with me?” I don’t know if I’m just tired, or going crazy, but when I tell you I listened to that song so much I knew all the lyrics without looking, I’m not lying. You can only imagine the smile on my face drop when I messed up the lyrics of a song I thought I knew so well..
