This isn't funny.
The most suspicious thing about Matt for me is the fact he never left an anonymous tip off to law enforcement. It’s extremely easy to do, very safe, and just common sense. His aim was not to target predators but to target a corporation that predators are leeching off of. The way he so quickly and vehemently shot down anyone who contacted him to even discuss the possibility of a different solution was kind of unsettling. It just doesn’t make sense unless he has a weird ulterior motive. That and his *extremely* inconsistent level of technological competence. That part absolutely reeks of B.S.
If you go to Matt's video the comment section is almost entirely redditors and 37 year olds singing his praise and unironically saying we live in a society. It didnt matter how BS everything is, because when you're appealing to the dumbest of the dumb, you can do anything and make it seem like magic
His aim was most certainly not to target the corporation. It was to simply lie to gain a following. If he was just trying to make TH-cam lose money, I would commend him for that. But its not what he did

From what I've heard, I think that's moreso an issue with Coppa. TH-cam restricts features on "children's content" because they want creators to lie and say that their content isn't made for children even if it is. That way they can still make ad revenue off of it. Basically: Coppa said "You guys can't make advertising revenue off of content labeled for kids because we don't want you collecting ad data on children.". So TH-cam is like "Okaaay we'll just try to force our content creators to lie then, so that way if a lawsuit happens, the individual creators who lied will be held responsible and we won't, and we can still make money." Basically the only way you're able to profit off of kids content now is to put yourself at risk of a Coppa violation.
I like how one of reddits most upvoted videos in the sites history was, in fact, a scam that could be disproven within an hour or less. Never change reddit, never change.

Matt is the ultimate TH-cam paradox. He has quite good understanding of deeper internet minutiae, yet fundamentally misunderstands the consequences of his actions. He knows how to rile up a giant mob of people, yet has no interest in talking to the people who could actually help him and his cause. He went through the hassle of submitting anonymous emails to news sources, but had his name and face plastered all over the campaign. It's such a mixture of intelligence and incompetency that it's virtually impossible to try and figure out what the fuck he's actually trying to do. It's incredible in and of itself

That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I wouldn't lose to anyone.

The way he vanished after getting so much attention and validation makes me wonder if this was an actual social experiment. It doesn't seem like he had any greater motive other than seeing how far he could go by using a sensitive situation to manipulate the public. My theory is he was basically sick of TH-cam and frustrated he couldnt make a living on it. He knew how it worked, but his content just wasnt good enough to generate. So he started this entire debacle as sort of the last ditch molotov, then called it quits. Reddit, did what Reddit does. His video got huge from that at first, and everyone with ulterior motives began latching on. Advertisers, companies and especially online news-sites who have this constant competition / vendetta against this platform.
That’s an understandable strategy but taking into account his political ideas I feel as though there must have been something else going on

The part I don't get is why his streams were monetized but left when people were still willing to watch him? Maybe he was just mentally ill for all we know and wanted 4 things at the sametime. Honestly, I lack the creativity to come up with a theory of my own, but his actions just don't make sense, and maybe we are looking at it from an incorrect perspective. The disgruntled TH-camr hypothesis doesn't make any sense, in my opinion. This was corporate, how the schedules all line up perfectly is way too suspicious. Watson's bizarre history on the platform doesn't disprove this hypothesis either, and in fact it helps obfuscate the agenda, anyone looking to hire someone for this kind of stunt wouldn't go for a blank slate. There is also the fact that the supposed exploitation was already being heavily discussed on several online forums prior to Watson's video, so there was a non-negligible and very loud swath of the Internet already very receptive to this message. Claiming that this was all about a disgruntled TH-camr only makes sense superficially, and ignores a huge portion of the story. You can't Occam's Razor this one without setting aside important details.
The REAL problem here is the total lack of parenting skills in 1st world countries.

Workforce exploitation via long hours and multiple jobs for the numerous low wage parents of our 'first world' country feel like an easy way to explain much of the time sinks incapacitating them from doing that very task well. Yeah his videos on Totally Uncreative were definitely meant to be satire, that's clear enough by him jamming a remote up his rear and saying he's "taking his daily dose of red pill". WILDLY terrible satire though, and even the best comedy isn't really a good enough excuse for harassing people on the street like a weirdo.

The holes in the last theory can be filled quite easily: Matt Watson was always an alias just because he didn't want to use his real name online to begin with; he was specifically selected by advertisers because they wanted someone small and untraceable, but also with an account that had existed previously so as to not arouse suspicion.
