  • In this video, I explored MPAPE HILLS - the largest slum in Nigeria's Federal Capital City (Abuja).
    During my visitation, I found an abandoned Crushed rock that was once a site for Tourism. I heard of how amazing it used to be and how many people visited the place to spend time with their loved ones while engaging in other activities like dancing, hiking, and so on.
    The crushed rock was formed when Nigeria decided to move its Capital from LAGOS to ABUJA. It was formally a site for excavating heavy stones, which was used in constructing Abuja roads, and bridges. While trying to locate the other abandoned quarry sites, I explored the neighborhood of the Mpape community.
    It was an amazing sight to behold. I hope that you enjoy the video.

      So, Abuja was bush right?
      But that bush belonged to some people...the indigenes of the area right?
      So, what's happened to those landowners?
      1. Did the government pay them and their descendants substantially?
      2. Did the government lease the land off the indigenes and are paying them now (including their descendants) for the next 200years?
      Which of the above applies?

      @@mercyln6646 This is a brilliant question. The first Tribe that resides in Abuja before the development kicked off was the "Gbagyi Tribe" from the northern part of Nigeria. I believe the government would have found a way to compensate these people before pushing them away from their homes (mostly those that were affected). But I doubt if there was any substantial payment or whatsoever because, this happened in a period when civilization hasn't set-in in this area. But I believe there must have been a consensus between both parties.

    Abuja slums are the worst of all Nigerian slums because everyone knows they are temporary settlements. No one builds any permanent structure because they are all settlements that are in anticipation of demolition anytime.

    • @YomiSams
      @YomiSams  12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Really? Wow, thanks for sharing this.🙏🏾 But, is it because Abuja is still a developing city or what? because, I heard this part of Abuja has been in existence for a while now.

    • @AfricasRealities
      @AfricasRealities 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@YomiSams the whole of Abuja were village settlements with their farmlands and their bushes/forests, before it was acquired by federal government and it became federal capital.
      Any slum still existing in Abuja Municipal was formally a village, and since development hasn't reached it, the villagers sold portions of their farmlands to the poor at a cheap rate. And the poor do not build permanent structures because they know it will be demolished at any time. The villagers already know that Abuja have been acquired from them, and when development reaches their side, only the main villagers will be compensated just like many of their counterparts have been. But the entire people that built the make shift houses will never be compensated. Thus, they never build permanent structures.
