The NEW Marzocchi Bomber Z1 Coil Fork | FREERIDE LIVES!

  • Is freeride dead? HELL NO! The new Marzocchi Bomber Z1 now comes in Coil and is ready to smash through rocks the size of a Chevy Cobalt and flat-drop from your garage roof. The Z1 Coil shares the same platform as the Z1 Air, so you can easily convert your Z1 Air fork to Coil with their conversion kit. A coil sprung fork with a simple damper that can lockout should be an amazing fork for those aggressive bikes that pedal to the top of the hill.
    In this video, Mike gives an in-depth overview of the new Z1 Coil and Jason shares his impression after riding the fork for several months.

      I change my air pressure a lot to adjust how my bike feels. It is an alloy enduro bike (Patrol) and if I run it soft it rides like a couch on enduro stages, but I can firm it up for xc by just adding air.
      I'd love to try a coil shock but the extra weight and loss of adjustability means it may not be for me. That new adjustable coil though..... I'm waiting to hear more about that.

    Legend has it that thousands of years ago the prophets foreseen the return of a hardcore indestructible fork for the rider that just wants to smash it hard on descents and not have to think about it, and in the scriptures they named it bomber. That time is upon us and we must HUCK TO FLAT.

    I am a 55yr old, 220lb rider. My first true Mountain Bike was a custom Ironhorse Sinister with a Z1 Free Ride oil & coil. Loved it. Just changed oil once a season, worked flawlessly every ride. Now I ride a 2022 Ibis Ripmo AF with the New Z1 coil. WOW, I had forgotten how good these forks were. I did have to change the spring to the Extra Firm. I do not care about the grams, the weight is worth it!

      Consider that 749USD in 2020 is the equivalent to ~555USD in 2004. Plus the manufacturing quality and materials of the new version will definitely be better.

    • @johnDe5tr0yer
      @johnDe5tr0yer 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@basstrom88 While all that may be true, and I do understand some of us like to think inflation rate is so easily calculated, my income has not risen 35% in the same time period. My bike might have cost me 1500$ in 2004, you don't see me calculating the inflation on it, but the devaluation of my bike is also included in my approximation. My 15 years old fork is still functioning, I would not be able to measure quality and materials advantages.
      If I try to read between my lines - for a price of my used bike I can only get a new fork nowadays. Therefore, I would gladly use my bike still and ride with it instead of trying to get the new Z1 and the whole bike around it.
      It is absurd that this sport started to be inflated and hyped years ago, when the prices started reaching astronomical levels. Nowadays, if I want to get a hardtail specced the same "style" as mine, I would spend 3000$ easily.
      People laugh at me and my two best buddies driving hardtails up to the point where red and black trails start, but we laugh at the bunch of incompetent assholes who cannot handle a bike when we overtake them downhill. Exactly these type of customers are the ones that support bike companies and price politics they are pushing, but don't need such bikes.

    • @TheLostCo
      @TheLostCo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Preload on a coil spring will make the spring feel more stiff ONLY on the initial compression of the spring. So basically, more preload on the spring makes it feel more stiff off the top of the stroke, and can potentially decrease your sag slightly.

    I'm sorry, but Marzocchi's popularity peaked in 1997, when lowers were still assembled from three distinct pieces, the stanchions were bolted to the crown, and you could run a disc brake on each side of the wheel if you were adventurous enough.
    They definitely dominated the early-mid 2000's though. Manitou were doing terribly, Rockshox were impressing nobody, and Fox was twice the price and too complicated.

    I have a commencal meta ht that came with a Rs 35 gold and i really dont like that fork , seriously i feel like i have no forks at all . I remember back in the day having a fox 36 coil and it was the best fork i ever had . I use my bike mostly for gravity stuff but still ride single track and dj with it . The weight does bother me but im thinking fuck it , coil is the bomb .

    This fork is what I hoped the Zochi 350R would be a few years ago, that fork was sadly awful. Very excited for this fork.

    Expensive coil forks: best small bump sensitivity
    Cheap coil forks: don’t even compress

    This thing is 25% more expensive than the zeb ultimate in Europe lol. Fox is so overpriced (btw, the 38 is over twice as expensive as the zeb ultimate)
